I hate reading all the negative replies, no buts.

Having lived abroad for a number of years, I wouldn't disagree with you. But that's not an issue at Saints .

Not sure I would call Tadic a marquee signing. A good signing none the less, and delighted to have him. Far rather players like him that a "marquee" signing that would be putting far too many eggs in one basket - just ask WHU about Carroll. And then, aren't "marquee" signings too much of a risk of being prima donnas and being far too flighty?

No, my generalisation was more at a national level. But granted, the Dutch national side is well known for usually ripping itself apart internally, and it was refreshing to see it not happening in Brazil.
-
I thought I read that one of them was going to be on £40k which isn't that the same as Lambert? I take it that most people get their info from the papers so could all be rubbish, like Morgan on £9k a week.
-
Gross generalisation, but the Dutch are no way near as bad at forming cliques as say the French.

IMO so a guess, no saving in wages, and none for replacements for any sold except Osvaldo.

Loan?? So if we can turn him into a world beater, Arsenal take him back much improved, so they benefit yet again from our hard work. Maybe if the arrangement was that they pay us a lot to do that, then it would be OK. But loans don't work like that. Maybe we should start doing it though.

I don't really go with what some consider a proven striker. Look at the Tin man. He was proven. The Champ is a hard league and just because it is the second tier, it shouldn't just be dismissed. Worth remembering that pretty much ALL of our squad was unproven but managed the step up OK.

Don't be dense. The OP says the money is in some Swiss bank account, so he obviously is ITK with KL's finances. And really Swiss accounts can be a little on the expensive side.

We are up **** creek, but we do have a paddle.

Trout, you would have thought that that was the way to do things, and I am glad that you have faith in the board to do it that way.
-
Of Mikey's team, realistically I can see 5 starting on a regular basis, if not more. Clyne, Targett, Cork, JWP plus another. JRod, well if we are going to be offered silly money.....Maybe we might have another English striker in by then.

Ignoring the high fee for Shaw, £16m for someone who has played 22 league games is to me fairly extraordinary. I know that this is based on potential, but to me that is somewhat of a risk. I think Wenger must have been very very impressed during the 2-2 at SMS, where he did have a storming game. But £16m having played 22 games??

In one of my bed wetting moments a few weeks ago, I came to this same conclusion. As I said then, I "blame" MLT for this - we know it can be done, as he did it. Some, myself included, rather hope (and I am well aware that that is somewhat fanciful) that someone else might do the same thing. Like most supporters, if I was given the chance of playing professional football, there would only be one club I would want to play for in this country.

Jose Mourinho: Signing Luke Shaw would have "killed" Chelsea
angelman replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
Well the initial reports were £160k a week. It is a rather sad state of affairs on a number of levels. 1) That wages are so stupid. Really, no football player needs to get paid more than £10k a week, or at a stretch £20k. I don't buy into the short playing career argument, but that is somewhat reinforced if you are earning millions a year. 2) That Man Utd seem to have found themselves in this position and need to take other teams's 18yo players. It is a while since they have brought through a worldie of their own (or is that a false impression?) 3) That a club can shell that out on an 18yo. Still Rooney is on something like £300k a week. The integrity of the competition, I was going to say, severely at risk, but we all know it went a long time ago. 4) That football, as I and many others have oft repeated, has been ruined by money. 5) The football players and the PL terraces have no connection/bond remaining. Hey ho. -

http://www.tsmplug.com/richlist/chelsea-playerss-salaries-2014/ Not sure how accurate this is. If the £120k or whatever Shaw is on is also true, then you would have some fairly ****ed off guys on a lot less than that. -
Guan, do you ever get the feeling that you are being played?
-
ManU and Liverpool supporters don't think this way.
-
I know how you feel but no point having a fire sale (of your ST) quite yet. I would wait to see who comes in first. You/we might be surprised, then again we might be really surprised. Hard to keep the faith when no direction is obvious, but I have faith in Koeman, which I hope I can maintain.

Who are we a laughing stock with? Supporters of other clubs? Do you really give a **** what other supporters think, cos I certainly don't.

Lambert, Shaw, Lallana, Lovren, Chambers, Schneiderlin, Rodriguez....
angelman replied to hypochondriac's topic in The Saints
You know what, relegation doesn't really bother me either, not that I am thinking that will happen, as I am (blindly) optimistic that we will sign good replacements (although the actions of the board may justifiably suggest otherwise). I take a step backwards and look at things and disagree with Shankly when he said football is more important than life or death. It's not. It's entertainment that is all - and I do find it hard to reconcile entertainment and the relentless pursuit of money that the PL is. It doesn't affect my life, save to bring some enjoyment (sometimes - and none since May!). I do though find it hugely sad that we have pïssed away all what we have built up and have to start again. Maybe it was inevitable, maybe it was avoidable. But what's done is done. I can't affect that. If the owners don't want to back the club then that too will be very sad. As someone said elsewhere citing Villa's attempted sale, maybe the future of football is finished with Platini's FFP rules. Maybe KL is being wise to cash in and get out. Maybe this is totally wrong and the club is going to strengthen - in these times, without any voice from the board, who knows WTF is going on and what the future holds. -
Not sure how others feel, but if someone says something (ie not needing to sell anyone) and then what happens is the total opposite (and on numerous occasions), then there is no point in taking any of the hollow words on board in the first place. As a customer, I don't being lied to.

angelman replied to hypochondriac's topic in The Saints
I can - I've paid for a season ticket. Want to get good value from it. Fully expecting us to make decent signings - if not, well then we can see about whether to renew the season after or not. As a customer, I would like the company whose product I have paid a lot for, to be able to tell me what is going on. But I doubt we'll get that. So we'll just have to wait and see what happens. As I always say, I love Saints, but hate football/PL. My love of Saints is more than my hate for football, but I can see that changing. It already has to a certain extent. -
FFS stop going on about would this happen if Cortese was still here. He isn't, so what is the point of asking such hypothetical questions?
