They usually lead to cooling. Mount Pinatubo was the last that I remember. They also emit an enormous amount of CO2, which is where all the atmospheric CO2 is thought to have come from originally (including coal, gas and oil). Of course, without the CO2 there would be no plants, and hence no animals. http://geography.about.com/od/globalproblemsandissues/a/pinatubo.htm

Soton City Council your caring council

I'm all for it. My slippers will need replacing one day so now I know where to go. Incidentally, why are they called 'slippers' if they stop you falling over. -
This article is all a little bit vague, really. I like the bit about 'greenhouse gases are much more effective higher up in the atmosphere where it’s colder'. That's also where they will have the least effect. None of the current models deal adequately with the effects of cloud cover, which one would expect to increase with the amount of water vapour. CO2 and other gases cannot account for 15-35% of warming or we would all have have frozen 1000 years ago.

One big volcanic eruption has a much bigger effect than anything we have produced.

Indeed, but water vapour is the most potent, and it is a natural phenomenon, but its production is dependent on global temperatures. The scientific debate is over whether, and by how much, the production of water vapour adds to man-made temperature rise by 'positive feedback'. All that I have found so far is 'we don't know'.

Ah, but it wouldn't be the same Portsmouth, would it?

If someone can't be bothered to read and correct what they write, then everything that they have published must be questioned.

Hmmm... I'd rather be beaten by Leeds than Carlisle.

Neal Trotman loan move to Huddersfield Town.

I'm sure that if AP had wanted him we could have had him back on loan. I prefer a permanent signing, myself. -

Exactly. One mistake is all it takes.

Any news on Internet streaming MK Dons match

I've just found this http://www.johnstonespainttrophy.com/match-centre/2009-2010/area-finals-leg-1/mk-dons-v-southampton/ but it's not a video feed. -
From memory, I don't think so. Some kind person looked up the competition rules in an earlier thread.

Water vapour is many times more significant. http://www.espere.net/Unitedkingdom/water/uk_watervapour.html Or how about Greenpeace? http://www.greenpeace.org/international/campaigns/climate-change/science/other_gases Water vapour is important .... "The exact size of this important feedback remains to be determined by scientists" This one is interesting, in particular the erudite responses: http://www.skepticalscience.com/water-vapor-greenhouse-gas.htm

That has been the case with every scientist that I have ever encountered and is the reason why every time I see a report I look for the sponsor. Cui bono?

It's not easy, is it? http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/TicketNews/0,,10280~1915680,00.html Why can't there just be a list of fixtures with a link alongside each that takes you to the ticket details?

You really can't expect wholesale changes in the team to play cohesively for at least 6 games, maybe 10 or more. We are working towards next season and if a playoff place comes along then we'll gratefully accept it.
-
I think he is part of the long-term plan. I don't think he was chosen for this league but for the next two. Otherwise we ('they') would have appointed a proven manager at the level, such as Lambert, with a view to attracting someone a bit more heavyweight once we reached the promised land.
-
And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that attitude. I would expect it every season from now on.
-
I have always thought that we would finish just outside the playoff places but a strong run of wins might just allow us to scrape in. To say that we would be the only club to have spent £3m and not get promoted ignores the -10 penalty, and let's not forget that we sold McGoldrick for £1m and Surman for £1.5m. This team is a work in progress and it will take some time to get consistency. Promotion this season would be a big bonus, but I don't suppose that the new owner or management would have epected it back in August.

Freedom of the City, at the very least.

It's not efficient because there is a lot of energy needed just to heat up the turbines and the all the otheer gear. It's a bit like starting and stopping your car all the time. I see that Marchwood is now up and running: http://www.marchwoodpower.com/ There are even bigger efficiencies to be made from local generation of power http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributed_generation I have seen studies of the total energy cycles for electric cars and when you take into account all the losses in transmission and storage there is not a lot of saving over burning the fuel in the place where it's needed, which is under the bonnet.
