  1. April 1949 was also a heatwave. It means nothing in the longer term.
  2. This is no time to be playing any passengers. He’s had plenty of chances to show what he can do when there was no pressure.
  3. 1. Yes 2. Quite 3. Less relevant
  4. But the performance isn’t.
  5. Temperatures have been a lot, lot higher in the geological past. What you call ‘records’ are only relatively recent.
  6. Rofe was talking about the final.
  7. Part of the sales pitch is priority for cup games. I don’t see the need for mates though.
  8. I did but how many won’t?
  9. How does that warm up the things that you touch?
  10. As a business you never want to upset your regular customers. My tickets in the Kingsland cost £41.50 including the ‘booking fee’. What a kick in the teeth that is. How can they claim a ticket price is £40 when you can’t actually buy a ticket for that much?
  11. Ah. I think I see the problem here.
  12. Dennis Rose came to talk to us at a referees meeting soon after. I asked him whether that thrashing had affected their preparation for the final. He said not really but they would have liked to have scored a goal.
  13. We drove to Norwich once. It seemed to take all day. And me windscreen wipers stopped working too.
  14. Agreed. But we won’t really know until after the game on Sunday 12th. I fear that we may be playing sleepwalking football.
  15. If you’re too scared to play you’ve already lost. We would be off the pace in the next game against a team which has been going flat out. Losing is a habit that’s hard to break.
  16. Quite the opposite. We must have a settled side going into the playoffs. This is no time to give the also-rans a run out. We have lost three games in a row and this is no time to deliberately make it four.
  17. I don’t blame him much for any of them but it’s a similar pattern to last season. I just don’t think that Bazunu would have got off so lightly.
  18. Eight goals conceded in the last three games?
  19. A slower game? How about postal chess?
  20. Yeah, I saw it all at the time and I wouldn’t call it a howler. And well done Ipswich. My dad used to go and watch them when Alf Ramsey was their manager.
  21. Not necessarily. If Ipswich are losing at half time it could get quite frantic.
