It literally means the same thing FFS.

You obviously have experience of living and working in such temperatures, and therefore you know what precautions to take. That's fine. But why do you assume the warnings are aimed at you? There are of course places in the world where these temperatures are considered normal and nobody needs 'nanny' to tell them what to do. My brother and his family, for instance, live in Bahrain where it regularly gets into the high 40s. Buy they live in an air conditioned apartment and they know damn well not to go and sit outside in the mid afternoon sun. Unfortunately, as such temperatures are so rare in this country, people aren't used to it, so they do need to be educated and informed about the dangers. Because people, in general, can be pretty stupid. There will undoubtedly be loads of young lads in the coming days taking Batman's advice and enjoying the nice weather with a few beers in the park, probably completely oblivious of the risk of severe sunstroke. There will be people stupidly out walking their dogs on hot tarmac that will burn their paws. The list goes on. So you maybe don't need warning because you can rely on your common sense, but not everyone is in the same boat.
-
Yes, because that is the extent of the 'history' of temperature records. Do you actually understand the meaning of the word?
-
I mean in the recorded history of temperature records, as in since the mid 19th century. I didn't realise the heat warning system was only introduced last year, admittedly. But the point is you're trying to make out this kind of heatwave is perfectly normal, when it most definitely isn't. Or at least it hasn't been up until now, but is likely to become normal with the changing climate.
-
Apart from the fact that the Met Office has issued its first ever red warning of extreme heat, and all the indications are that UK records are about to be smashed with some places exceeding 40 degrees for the first time in history... yeah. Just a perfectly normal British summer. Do you ever actually stop and think before you post?

The OG for England's 5th reminded me of the first goal in our 8-0 against Sunderland. A sliced attempted clearance that went the opposite direction from where it was intended and looped over the keeper's head.
-
First half was a lot closer but NI don't have a professional league so they were never going to be able to match England's intensity for 90 mins. They did well to keep England out for as long as they did. Lovely goal from Russo.
-
Been coming. Great finish too. And there's another for Beth Mead. Looks like the floodgates might have opened.

NI not the pushover many suspected they would be, so far at least. They are defending valiantly.

Right decision in the end.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/jul/14/steve-bannon-audio-trump-declare-victory Steve Bannon recorded admitting that it was premeditated 'strategy' for Trump to claim victory prematurely, presumably in order to sow the seeds of his 'stop the steal' narrative.

No, but we wouldn't realistically be able to match what Everton can offer him. Even with their FFP worries, they can easily outbid us in that department.

Because humans are hardwired to gorge themselves on high calorie, sugary food. It's an evolutionary instinct hungover from when we used to live as hunter gatherers. If you didn't know where your next meal was gonna come from, you eat as much as you could when it was available. Unfortunately in the modern western world, such foods are too easily available and aggressively marketed through advertising / product placement etc. You can try and educate people, of course, but a large percentage of the population just don't have the ability to rationalise and override their primal instincts.

What if it is actually Martin O'Neill's house he is renting? 🤔

The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.

They love to play up on identity politics when it suits them. In a GE campaign, the leaders of both main parties will dress it up as a simple, US presidential style binary choice between me or him/her, as exemplified by David Cameron's infamous "chaos with Ed Miliband" tweet. Then when situations like this arise, they fall back on the old "ah but you weren't technically voting for a PM" argument. -
True, but wasn't it also a really harsh decision that didn't take the pitch conditions into account? I was out at a gig that night and have never brought myself to watch the replays, so I can only go by what I've read.

I don't really think it's fair to include Bertrand either. It was still 0-0 when he got sent off wasn't it?

So women don't have the strength and speed to compete with even academy level men. That has never been in question and it's the reason why there is a separate women's game. Instead of constantly comparing it to the men's game, why don't you at least try and acknowledge it for its own merits? I often watch the BTCC when it's on TV because it often has some really close, entertaining racing. I don't dismiss it just because they wouldn't be able to compete in a F1 race. That would be absurd. Just because women lack the physicality of men, it doesn't mean they can't develop good technical ability and play a good tactical game. There has been plenty of that on show in the current Euros, and some very entertaining games and great goals so far. Nobody's forcing you to watch or read the media coverage. You are free to ignore the tournament completely if you wish. But if you're not going to watch the games then maybe, you know, stop relentlessly commenting on it? Just a thought.

Yes, I'm sure they put in 110% effort in a hugely competitive game and were completely embarrassed by a group of kids. Or perhaps not... https://www.90min.com/posts/4833646-some-people-think-it-s-funny-that-the-usa-women-s-national-team-were-apparently-beaten-by-u15-boys "This 'game'....has given overtly sexist knuckle draggers all the ammunition they think they need to lay into women's football".
-
Apologies, it wasn't aimed specifically at you.
-
He's not correct. Claiming "The Dog and Duck would beat any chick team week in week out" is not "the reality". It might have been a number of years ago but it certainly isn't anymore. Look I get that it won't have universal appeal. There are clearly a handful of posters who feel it isn't for them and don't want to watch it, and that's fine. But, mods, please could you split the thread so those of us who are actually enjoying this tournament can discuss it like grownups without certain people relentlessly trying to piss all over that enjoyment?
-
It was a very enjoyable game played at a really good standard. If you took your blinkers off you'd see that for yourself. But no. With every further post you make on this thread, you make yourself look more and more like a massive prick.

This Netherlands v Portugal match is gripping. Both teams have players with genuine quality. Neds looked like they would run away with it early on but Portugal got back to 2-2 with a lovely move and finish, and the Dutch have taken the lead again with an outstanding goal. I've watched plenty of PL games far less entertaining than this.

Are you sure it didn't mean July 2022, rather than 22nd July?

I've just got back from watching Sweden v Switzerland at Bramall Lane with my daughter, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. First half was a bit cagey with very few real chances, but it really opened up in the second half and was a decent game in the end. Sweden were deserving winners but Switzerland, despite being much lower ranked (and apparently having half the squad come down with a stomach bug only days ago), gave them a good game and were no mugs. The atmosphere was very much family orientated, so I can see why it wouldn't appeal to our resident football 'lads', but the standard on the pitch was decent. Anyone claiming it's no better than Sunday league is talking utter bollocks.
