https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-republicans-idUSKBN29H2RM GOP house leadership apparently won't whip their members to vote against impeachment proceedings. Is this the most principled stand they are capable of?

I agree. They have to do it because it is the right thing to do. Any thoughts of political point-scoring should be secondary to that right now. If someone commits a murder, you wouldn't choose not to prosecute them just because they were already in prison for something else. You do it because having the facts determined in a legal process and obtaining justice is the right course of action. Trump may be leaving office in 8 days time, but he clearly cannot be trusted not to cause a lot more damage to the country in that time. If the GOP refuse to invoke the 25th amendment then impeachment is the only viable way to go.

“Resolved, That Donald John Trump, President of the United States, is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors,” the article says. “President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of Government. He threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power, and imperiled a coequal branch of Government. He thereby betrayed his trust as President, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States. “Wherefore, Donald John Trump, by such conduct, has demonstrated that he will remain a threat to national security, democracy, and the Constitution if allowed to remain in office, and has acted in a manner grossly incompatible with self-governance and the rule of law. Donald John Trump thus warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.”

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2021/jan/11/joe-biden-donald-trump-impeachment-capitol-mike-pence-nancy-pelosi-coronavirus-covid-live-updates Impeachment begins, on a charge of inciting an insurrection.

Apparently the acting defense secretary Chris Miller - the guy who Trump installed as his puppet in the DoD after losing the election - delayed authorising the National Guard to enter DC until about 5.45pm - nearly 3 hours after the insurrection began. Add that to Giuliani's phone call to Tuberville, and Boebert's live tweeting of the speaker's whereabouts during the attack, and you start to see a very sinister picture developing. But yeah, I'm sure it's just a normal Saturday night in Maidstone.

They had 6 hours. That was the time gap between the final clarification and publication of the new border protocols and the end of the transition period. We had the opportunity to implement a grace period to allow everyone to get used to the new systems etc, but Johnson flat out refused. By the time everything has been ironed out, and the new IT system (which is being set up and tested in a real time, live environment) is up and working fully*, many businesses who are dependent on exports to the EU will not survive. An interesting thread... * - yeah, seriously. Anyone who believes that will be a success clearly hasn't been paying much attention over recent years

Also just reading about Congresswoman Lauren Boebert. Just wow. She doesn't seem bright enough to have destroyed any evidence connecting her with the action. She hasn't even bothered to delete the tweet where she broadcast the location of Speaker Pelosi when the attack began. Can't verify this of course, but am seeing reports on Twitter that loads of active police and armed forces personnel were among the rioters, and the guy who was photographed with the large number of zip-tie cuffs is a retired Lt. Colonel! 1900 Capitol police were told to stay home and only 400 were on duty. You can see them in the videos literally opening the barriers and ushering people in. There was definitely an organised plot going on here. Does treason carry the death penalty in the US?

And conversely, I remember when we had our run of horrendous home form, at one point Leicester had won more games at St Marys that year (2018 was it?) than we had!

I've just been reading about Officer Eugene Goodman. I already saw the video of him - a lone black USCP officer - being chased through corridors by an angry mob yelling racist abuse at him, and thought how terrifying it must have been. Turns out he was deliberately luring them in the wrong direction, having identified that the doors to the senate floor were not secured. He even pushed one of them to sufficiently enrage him so that he and those behind him would follow him to a location where he knew there would be other officers waiting. He put himself in harm's way to protect the senior legislators and almost certainly saved lives. He deserves the highest honour available.

They've only done that because they wanted to include Everton who are currently below us on the same points but with a game in hand, which if they win will put them a point off the top.
-
How else would you describe a group of armed thugs smashing their way into the legislature intent on preventing the official certification of a democratic election? It might have been a pathetic and doomed to fail attempt at a coup, but it was an attempt nonetheless.

He's always been in a fragile mental state. That's why the US has got into this mess.
-
Ha! I shared a version of this lastnight but the tweet has been deleted now. Someone has just pointed out that she has quite obviously got an onion in her towel!!!
-
He's absolutely not implying that every Trump supporter is like that, as shown by his use of the words "particularly the ones" - he's *literally* singling that group out for special treatment. Just to reiterate - the POTUS is saying "we love you all, you're special" to a group that includes people making no attempt to disguise their disgusting neo-nazi beliefs, and here you are having a pop at a well known Jewish person for calling him out on it.
-
This bloke? You mean David Schneider? The Jewish writer/actor David Schneider who has been extremely critical of Corbyn over the last few years?
-
I'm not convinced he would be a good fit for Ralph's system. He's probably looking to get some regular first team football and he ain't gonna get it at Saints right now.

Then why don't you enlighten us all what this wonderful yet cryptic point of yours is, seeing as no-one seems to have a clue what you're on about?
