Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Saints - Post-match reaction thread
Nexstar replied to stevegrant's topic in The Saints
The big difference that I saw yesterday as opposed to recent games was the attitude of the players - they wanted it. They came together as a team and put in a great performance, throwing their bodies infront of the ball in defence and desperate to get that goal upfront. Nigel appears to have had a big effect in the last week. -
If i'm honest, I expected you to be a lot better too. I didn't think we were as bad as each other, I thought Saints were strong upfront and particularly solid at the back when under pressure. Both teams had a number of chances but Wednesday were wasteful with corners and long passes in particular. It would be difficult to say what happens next for Sheff Wed after 4 straight defeats, but for Saints it's seems we are on the up. Roll on Tuesday!

Matthew Reece, Fulham academy player who was linked on here about a week ago. Supposedly a very good up and coming striker. Aged 17/18

Until they had been through the song all of twice.

Haha if you listen to beyond 50 seconds of that video Spurs fans seem to sing it even quicker than the Northam. OWTSGMI is often sung at the slow pace.

Would like to see Itchen North reopened, but i'm not sure they're allowed to say they will accept standing?

Ended up as a great day out last season, just hoping it doesn't rain.

Will be interesting to see what, if any, changes Adkins makes after his first full week of training. Puncheon was replaced on Saturday with Holmes who did well and Dickson also impressed. 17 year old Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is one to watch, been our most consistent player over the past few games and has blistering pace down the right wing. I think we'll be likely to see: Davis Butterfield Fonte Seaborne Harding AOC Schneiderlin Hammond Holmes Lambert Barnard

To be fair, if their goalkeeper hadn't been on such good form Rickie would have had a hat-rick, and you would have happily given him MoM.
-
Haha, you obviously haven't seen him play! Numpty.

Speaking of which, I took the time to see where our old friend Jermaine Wright was plying his trade these days. Turns out he is currently at Croydon Athletic (1 division below the Blue Square South), but they look to be going out of business.
-
The fact he's still here when his original contract ran out in June is a fairly big hint.
-
If you were at the Reading game pre-season you would have seen that all the slagging off and jokes made about Pulis were 100% accurate. He was useless.
-
With Holmes back is sort of like a new signing (if he stays fit), it means both Harding and Puncheon can be replaced if needed with Dickson slotting in at left back.
-
8 shots on target, 8 shots off target and 10 corners.
-
The problem today wasn't creating chances it's taking them. We created plenty enough to win the game today.

How would a loan from Rotherham possibly be expensive?
-
First half was a bore, neither side really did anything worth writing about. Second half we were by far and away the better side, Adkins had clearly told them to pass it more and we did. Crosses, corners and shots were being whipped in which was nice to see. The introductions of Holmes and Dickson made a considerable difference as we piled on the pressure for the final 20 minutes and somehow didn't win - Lambert would have had a hattrick if their keeper hadn't been on top form. It was a very positive second half display, with special mentions for Holmes, Oxlade-chamberlain (who was very dangerous again), and Dan Seaborne who I thought had a very solid game at the back. Would like to see Holmes start instead of Puncheon next Saturday and maybe give Guly a go instead of Hammond if we haven't brought anyone in by then.

He's not in the 25, but he can still play first team for West Ham. -

He's U21 so it counts. -
Somebody i'm not too fussed about, similar to Patterson. Think he'll probably make the bench like their last few games.

Surely Stanislas made it into the WHU 25 man squad then?
