without wanting to turn this into a mac v pc debate, why?

I would say its worth NOT buying a new laptop until you can save the extra to get a mac. Upgrade the ram to 4gb via ebay for only £45 too.

£1.01p then?

Judging from his IP address, he should be able to use an email account that comes with his ISP.

Can confirm these vouchers are totally legit and working.

Snap. I don't use anti-virus any more. Mac's are susceptible, but only if you are dumb enough to open random attachments in emails that might be written for macs AND give it your system password when it executes. Of course, it's not the mac software that makes it so safe, it's the unix architecture that its built upon.

So we're trusting these morons to find other subs, but can't even spot walking into one, jesus....

It's definatley a power issue. You're not using the cable it came with are you. You should have a usb cable that has one connection to the drive but TWO to the computer, this then provides it with enough juice to keep the drive powered, and not lose power (which is what is happening at the moment). A powered USB hub mayb not even be enough, you need that original cable to double up on power.

No, actually BS (no pun intended), if you read my original post you will see that I said the world cannot switch to a non-capitalist system unless it all switches at once, and that all countries considered by people to be communist are not truly communist since they rely on capitalist states. Seriously, read my posts first before you want to tell me something I've already said.

I don't pretend to know or care a great deal about the forces, but it seems to me that our government is unable to equip the brave people who fight on the orders of our government properly, so they have to rely on purchasing or being supplied extra equipment from family and friends, and then when the do finally return home, hopefully in one piece and without either a ****ed up head or illnesses from whatever **** they were injected with, they still have to rely on schemes like this for support. If our government were seen to actually back up their military plans with adequate facilities, maybe they could help chip away at a little bit of that behemoth of hatred that their voters currently feel for them.

Trash, countries like Cuba don't deal with capitalist countries?? How can I take the rest seriously? in 2008 it was estimated that Cuba exported goods and services to the value of around $3.5 BILLION , everything from sugar to medical products, they have over $4 billion in foreign stock, even North Korea exported $1.4 billion in goods. The essence of the rest of your post I agree with, completely. Humanity in it's current state is too immature to overcome its greed for the greater good, hell, with every intention I include myself in that. I also agree, it will take something catastrophic for a global change of focus.

2 separate points here. Firstly, I think any sensible person knew this was a hoax, merely because of their approach to the discovery. But the second point, the second law of thermodynamics, has been broken too many times already, it will only be a matter of time before a repeatable and commercial product will be developed.

Power shortage. Is it a plug in the wall jobby or 2.5inch USB based external drive?

Utter hogwash. You are seriously trying to tell me that multimillionaires redistribute all of their wealth? And on your second point, I would like to think we are intelligent enough not to compare our social system to that of lions. And the problem with even suggesting a system where money is abolished is that people already have a stigma with the alternative methods, socialism/communism. Neither of these systems are truly free of monetary influence, since every country who runs an economic system opposed to capitalism must deal with other capitalist states. One country cannot change alone, the system must change globally, in one move. And I'm not talking about each man working to contribute to the state in the commonly thought sense of socialism, we have the technology within us now to eliminate the need for vast swathes of the work we do, leaving us to concentrate on advancing our civilization as a whole, rather than working for 'the man'. When salary and commitment to meeting bills is removed, our concentration will soon move to expanding our understanding of the planet, ourselves, and the universe we live in. As a planet we have the capacity to solve all of todays wars, poverty and food shortages by re-applying our efforts. We simply cannot advance as a species, with the promise that we have, whilst we are in the grip of capitalism. Pie in the sky dream, maybe, but it starts with a few realising that what we have doesn't work.

Capitalism does not work. Where there is rich, there must be poor. Where there are affluent countries, there will always be bankrupt, where there are the greedy, there will also be the malnourished. Capitalism is the uneven distribution of wealth without thought or conscience for those suffering. Humanity will only produce a fair society for all of the planets inhabitants once capitalism is abolished.

Ok, so I'm trying to break down my usage into whats most important/regular. First and foremost, it's email. Now, yes I use an exchange server, however that's completely irrelevant, as long as the email client supports IMAP or POP3/SMTP(which of course it will), the most important aspect for email is that i can browse the subfolders I've set up, as I break down my clients into seperate boxes (no rules, i move them there manually). As for the emails themselves, just viewing and replying would be fine, previewing docs isnt that important, tho a nice to have. Secondly, camera. Yes, I know it sounds pathetic to the rest of you, but having 2 kids, I take a LOT of photos, and I need them half decent quality. Which takes better photos, iPhone 3g or Blackberry. Next of importance is GPS along with bundled software, as I plan to use my next device to replace my aging PDA / GPS unit running tomtom in the car. Which of these has the best GPS device + software? Web browsing, ironically, isn't of such great importance, more of a nice-to-have. Which has the best browsing? Things like iTunes integration / Mass music storage don't really interest me, tho I guess they could do if I was given the feature. I'm not 100% sold on either atm, and note that Granty is a mac convert, yet chose a blackberry.
