Everyone is focused on the moving ball, isn't the real issue that there were several Fulham players in the box? So, even if the ball had been dead, the goal kick would have to be retaken?

To play that well and create so many chances which such low possession is superb. Fuck the stats, we were worthy winners. Get in!

I'm in a minority here, but I like the change. Sure, top 3 going up and no play offs is technically fairest, but can be boring (promotion race this season would be almost over with Cov, Boro and Ipswich going up...maybe just one other team involved). If you're going to have play-offs, I think they should be weighted so that the higher placed team have a meaningful advantage. That doesn't really happen at the moment (3rd plays 6th rather than 5th..... and the 3rd and 4th placed teams get the second leg at home.....not a big deal). The new format means that teams 3 and 4 have a measurable advantage over teams 5 and 6 who also have a measurable advantage over teams 7 and 8. I might tilt that even further by having the semi-finals as a single leg at the better placed team's ground but I basically like the change that is coming in.

The Spurs position is fucking hilarious. I usually try and callibrate these things to Saints' advantage within a millimetre. (if we are going down, who do we want to go down with us....if we aren't going up, who do you NOT want to go down etc etc). But the potential banter and piss-taking if Spurs get relegated would out trump any such thoughts.... Please, please, make it happen.

The sort of game we should have won comfortably without breaking a sweat or getting out of second gear. And, basically, we did.

not sure what the yellow card would be for. If you're not chewing the clock (because it's paused), it's not time-wasting. we start to get more into NFL territory, where you get 40 seconds to snap the ball and a delay of game penalty if you fail to.

I think the issue is that if the clock isn't running, the game could get really, really slow....2 minutes to take a corner etc.

Am I right that the balls tends to be in play for about 30 minutes per half? If so, I can see a rationale for having two halves of exactly 30 minutes (with the half ending when the ball goes dead after that time) - measured on a countdown clock. But, gees, that feels just too American, no?

Good performance overall. We win that 9 times out of ten. Fair play to Charlton, they defended brilliantly and were well organised. Thems are the breaks.

I like that - if you’re going to have playoffs at all - there are meaningful advantages of finishing in higher position. I think some other sport (Aussie rules?) had a smart system. 6th plays away at 5th, winner plays away at 4th, winner plays away at 3rd. Winner of that promoted. That’s it.
