  1. Disappointed not to get the win, but a draw better than a defeat. 2 missed sitters and the one off the post would say we edged the match/chances. Hey ho, it could be worse.... And at least this will give the whingers something to gripe about...
  2. Ah, right. So you're unhappy that we signed Livramento......... 🙄
  3. Get in! Armandoooooo
  4. http://www.hesgoal.com/news/89664/Southampton_vs_Burnley.html
  5. He has been playing, and he will play more. Guarantee he will start against Chelsea in midweek. It's a loooong season. Maybe you would be happier if we didn't play Tino and he wanted to leave instead?
  6. Maybe we are going to play 4-2-3-1 for some of the match? If not, and it is the usual 4-2-2-2, all of Redders, Theo and Mo can play alongside Broja or on either side.
  7. Nothing hypocritical in this post then.... Complaining about players being used out of their usual/best position and then put a young player who has only ever played at RB in the premier league (and that for all of 8 matches) in at RM...... just so you can squeeze him, KWP and Perraud into your starting 11. News flash, KWP played at LB a number of times for Spurs previously (yes, even under Pochettino) and has performed that role for us very well when asked, except for one occasion - against Wolves. But hey, you keep banging that drum if it makes you feel better. 🙄
  8. Probably Redmond? Maybe Arma, if he is on the pitch? Romeu also takes a decent pen (even scored one for Chelsea when there).
  9. And nobody is allowed to ask him why he deems the JWP challenge as worse than wilful GBH on Saka. There is no way McArthur could even pretend he was trying to play the ball. It was pure retaliation because Saka had fouled him a minutes beforehand.
  10. My sentiments exactly. He also has a great track record of spunking large sums of money on gash players.
  11. Whilst it would be nice to see Stu A start I think Saturday may be a bit too soon. The 30 minutes against Leeds were certainly a help. If he does start, I would expect him to be brought off after about an hour. However, as Ralph doesn't like starting players he knows wouldn't last the full 90, I am fully expecting an unchanged starting 11 against Burnley. To be honest, I don't think anyone could really complain about that. With one eye on the following midweek cup match, it could mean fielding a completely different front 4 of Tella/Arma/Che/Theo. After more game time Saturday, Stuey could then be started in AM in place of either Ibra or Oriol; with KWP and Valery as the FBs. (Yes, I know, I know.) Obviously FF will be in goal for that one, meaning only 1 CM (prob Diallo) and both CBs would need to play in both. (Not sure I want to see Lyanco on the pitch against Chelsea....) That said, and getting back on topic to the Burnley match, I would like to see a slight change up front. Something to give us a bit more of an attacking threat. I would like to see either Arma (who I think is the better/more clinical finisher) or Che (for his strength, hold up and link up abilities). Given the opposition, I would probably be tempted to go with Che (if fit). If not fit, then Arma. No way should Redders be dropped after his recent performances so drop him into a 10 role. Again, unsure whether that should be at the expense of Moussa or Moi. In any event, seeing as we did the double over Burnley last season and given their start to this, I think we do stand a good chance of getting back to back wins here. 2-0 win.
  12. I think you are talking about 2 different incidents. SS was referring to McArthur's, very obviously, deliberate foul on Saka which led to him being brought off at half-time. Not the foul on Broja after he scored. As soon as Saka was taken out my words were, 'How is that not a red card? It is far worse than JWP's late tackle'. (With a few choice expletives thrown in).
  13. All very good points. (Although I would add that we were piss poor in the 2nd half at Everton and, whilst we were terrible in front of goal, we did dominate much of the match against Wolves.)
  14. Match Day 8 Match Day Comparison: Last season's match day 8 gave us a 2-0 victory at home to Newcastle. Should have been at least that this time at home to Leeds, but still happy with the 1-0. Equal points; -1 GD -9 points; -8 GD Head-to Head Comparison Last season we lost this fixture 2-0. So the 1-0 win gives a nice positive swing. +3 points ; +3 GD +5 points; +5 GD Next up, on Match Day 9, is a home game against Burnley. Last season we won the corresponding fixture 3-2, giving us the double over The Clarets (we won 1-0 up there on match day 3). Last season's Match Day 9 gave a us a 1-1 draw away at Wolves. Whilst no game is easy in the Premier League, I see no reason why we can't get a win in this one. I'm predicting 2-0 to Saints on Saturday. COYS
  15. Oh, yes please. That would be hilarious.
  16. You are correct that it was Diallo who won the ball and passed it to Moussa for the breakaway which led to our goal. Pretty sure that pass was sideways though. Which, of course, it needed to be and was the right thing to do. But isn't playing the best option of pass, when it is a sideways one, what people are complaining about Prowsey doing? Whilst ignoring the fact that he does actually make far more forward passes than Diallo per match?
  17. 'Out of interest, and I don’t know the answer to this one, how many goals / assists does JWP have in open play?' I don't know how many goals and assists JWP has from open play either, but I do know it is significantly more than Diallo. I do know that he has 2 goals (from open play) from his 9 full England internationals to date; to go along with his 6 goals from 31 England U21 appearances. 'It seems a daft comparison given his ability over a free kick and the fact he takes every corner and penalty as well to boost his numbers.' Why is it daft to acknowledge a skill one player has that another doesn't? Unless to fit an agenda/back up a preconceived idea? To my mind it is ridiculous to ignore such a fact. I mean, should we ignore headers as well? What about goals that just bounce in off a knee, thigh, or someone's arse? Do they not all count? Did we actually lose 2-1 to Newcastle? Maybe you should phone Steve Bruce and tell him they should have an additional 3 points. If we are ignoring goals from penalties and free-kicks, and maybe even headers, how many did Ricky Lambert really score for us? Apart from that, JWP has only recently become our first choice penalty taker. Seem to recall Ings taking more pens than him last season..... 'im also guessing that JWP has played significantly more games.' You are right that James has played significantly more games than Ibra. More than double at just over 200 compared to 94. They have also primarily been at a far higher standard, with all the league matches being Premier League and not mainly French League 2. 'The point wasn’t who’s the better player. It was that Diallo, with Romeu, compliments our game more than JWP.' Why wouldn't the question of who the better player is effect who compliments the team's overall performance more? Of course it matters how good a player is. Why do you think the top teams pay shit loads for the best players? Why don't they just save their money and buy lesser players who simply 'compliment' each other better? You are basing your belief that we are better with Diallo instead of JWP purely on Saturday's match against a depleted Leeds midfield. The same Leeds that JWP completely dominated the midfield against last season to the extent that Bielsa withdrew Kalvin Phillips at half-time because he had been firmly Prowsey's pocket for the first 45. JWP's all round skill set, ability with the ball from open play and set pieces, is a vital part of how we perform as a team. So, yes, his better ability in all aspects of the game compliments our team' performance more than Diallo's. How do you know that we wouldn't have won by a far bigger margin on Saturday had he been available for selection? Moreover, why didn't you start this thread after the Sheffield United match? Is it because our midfield was utter shite in the first half with Diallo alongside Romeu?
  18. Thanks for the link.
  19. Where is this from? Both at 6'7'' would certainly add some height! Would have thought Lucca, at 21, more likely than 27 year old Onuachu.
  20. He would cost them far more than that, imho.
  21. Teams brought off for an early half-time. Hope the person in question make a full recovery.
  22. Indeed. No idea.
  23. He is certainly going to be some player and is already displaying very good attributes. But it isn't really hard to understand why he hasn't been thrust into the league starting line ups before yesterday (maybe Wolves match aside). I say league because, of course, started both cup matches. In one he grabbed 2 decent goals; in the other he was non-effective. So 50/50 there. But let's look at the league matches: First 2 vs Everton and Man Utd- wasn't ready. Not even in the match day squads. 3rd Vs Newcastle - Would have been harsh to drop either Arma or Che, who had scored/were responsible for both our league goals in the previous matches. Brought on for last 20 minutes when we were 1-0 down. Did nothing of note except miss the header from Redders' cross which then fell to Moi to score. The much complained about Redmond assisted the goal and provided the through ball for Arma to win the penalty. 4th Vs West Ham - Brought on for last 15 minutes and so nearly won us the match when he hit the post and had a header cleared off the line. A great performance against a tired and slow West Ham defence. 5th Vs Man City - Could be argued that he deserved a start after his cameo against the Irons, but think that may have been a big ask. First league start away at the Champions who had been putting 5 or 6 past all other opposition at the Etihad? Also, who deserved to be dropped given pervious performances and our tactics for that match? Hard to argue that Ralph didn't get everything spot on for that match. Broja was brought on for the final 20/25 minutes, but again did nothing of note. Arma was the more threatening. 6th Vs Wolves - As I said above, it could be argued that he should have started this match (in hindsight). That said, it was immediately after his non-performance at Sheffield in the cup and when he was brought on, for the last 25-30 minutes, he proved as ineffective in front of goal as the rest. 7th Vs Chelsea - Not allowed to play against his parent club. On top of all this: he is only 20; his only previous experience in the Premier League before coming here was as a last 5 minute sub for Chelsea the season before last; had a decent return of 10 goals in 30 matches for Vitesse last season, but that is hardly prolific (most certainly nowhere near the level of goals scored by Che and Arma before they joined us); and not even mentioning the fact that Ralph gets to see all these players train day in/day out. Oh, and Armando even acknowledged in his interview yesterday that he hadn't always been putting in as much effort in training as he should have (by his reference to the senior players telling him so and taking their words onboard). But the above is just my opinion. Let me know which of the points above you disagree with and why. It's always good to know how others see things with their reasons. Certainly better than people just saying 'well, because that's what I think' without really backing their opinion up with anything other than their opinion.
  24. You mean like you do with yours?
