  1. you bunch of bellends.
  2. I was talking about the 89/90 season where the highest we went was 3rd in September time. I think you maybe right about 88/89 though, didn't we win our first 3 games and were top then? 4-0 at home to west ham on the open day.
  3. Didn't we also lose at home to Stoke who were relegated?
  4. Good on FIFA, good on YouTube, all we need Are his fm14 stats and we can make a decision.
  5. Not sure you can claim to know anything about football if you think clubs don't watch players for an extensive period of time before making a bid
  6. We were never top in 1984 or 89. think it was 81 we were top for a long time, we finished about 6th that year.
  7. But we lost them both so its irrelevant.
  8. This is true, to finish 3rd we'd have had to have won at Highbury and White Hart Lane in our last two games and other results go our way, bit of rewriting of history there. As is the one about is being 3 wins away from the double in 1984. Of course on paper we were but Liverpool had won the league a few weeks early and we finished second courtesy of a brilliant late run, in reality we were never really title contenders but finishing 2nd was an incredible achievement.
  9. Why don't you just go to a game to enjoy it? Its entertainment isn't it?
  10. I think Eric Cantona might have something to say about that.
  11. The Chris Nicholl thread reminded me of the time back in the 80's when Lawrie McMenemy and Mark Wright had a fight in the changing rooms during one game and Lawrie Mac ended up being pushed into the bath. Can you imagine if that happened these days, people would want him hung!
  12. Can you imagine the meltdown on here if MP left and he was replaced by the assistant manager from Grimsby. I agree with those that say he got a raw deal. He had the massive task of taking over from Lawrie and add to that some of our top players left relatively early into his reign, Shilton, Wright, Dennis etc. Despite not being able to follow Lawries success we were never really seriously threatened by releation, had a few good cup runs and played some great, exciting taking football. I remember when he left he said he wasn't sacked for failiure, it was faliure to bring success. Funny how these days finishing 7th and reach quite a few cup semis and quarter finals with a team of great young players scoring loads of goals would see him hailed as the greatest manager we've ever had by some........
  13. Yeah I remember that game, Barry Horne scored a belter to get us back in it then ruddock and shearer came on as we went for it. 3rd goal was a great free kick from le Tiss. Great night and a great atmosphere.
  14. Yep 1986, lost 0-2 after extra time. MArk wright broke his leg in the first half which ruled him out of Mexico 86 Also lost a league cup semi final too. Drew 0-0 at the dell and lost at Anfield in the second leg.
  15. Ahh of course, it was all lies wasn't it. The media making things up, Wilde lying. Yet every word that was printed and spoken by Cortese is the gospel truth. Another amusing thing is that Lowe is regularly blamed for employing the Dutch mugs, yet all the quotes came from Wilde.
  16. That is the work of genius, the back tracking a few weeks later was equally as funny. Something about not having seen the whole statue just bits of it or something like that.
  17. I don't have a Problem with him, he's just a bit of a Joke figure. I felt sorry for Keith Legg, he was used by Wilde as a pawn to get popularity with the fan base. Um Pahars on the other hand loved the limelight. I remember his posts at the time lots of alluding to things then saying 'i can't say too much but...' Those Type posts were a regular occurrence in those days. The life he made out for himself in his posts I that era was something out of a James Bond film, clearly exaggerated, I think he actually admitted this later on. You have to wonder why if his apparent jet set lifestyle was true he would want to impress people on an anonymous Internet forum with endless exaggerated tales of his exploits.
  18. And he was replaced for financial reasons as clearly stated her.e. Again something people seem to be forgetting, another thing people are forgetting. Is Wilde was involved in appointing him too, instead they're all blaming Lowe for this. So ill ask again, if we couldn't afford Pearson, what other decent managers would be quotient up for the job at the time? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/7427097.stm
  19. The Ops had a mare on this one.
  20. This is one of my favourite quotes from that time. http://www.southampton.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=12889 Are we roaring yet steve?
  21. The sugar daddy/investment your hero mr Wilde promised us, yes?!!
  22. You also and I agree that we don't know if he would have kept us up or not, so therefore we don't know if we would have been better. Certainly given out performances when he was here coupled with the fact he'd have had a weaker squad you'd have to say it very doubtful.
  23. Making things up as you go along, no wonder no one wanted you as a FOTB! I never said no club of our size did, I said plenty of clubs didn't, which is true. And regardless of how much it must rankle you you can't say for certain that we would have gone into admin with Lowe. What we can say for certain is the man whose arrival you and your little band of power crazed wannabes heralded the arrival of did.
  24. So one manager who might we've kept us up but equally might not have, excellent work.
