  1. Because 20 years ago deals just happened when the clubs released a statement via the media, no one Knew anything about it until a deal was very close or done. Now rumours true or not are all over twitter, Facebook and mongboards as well as the relentless thirst for info most fans have with fans stalking journos on twitter to be the be the first to get tweets from them and to post it on their clubs mongboard which means even the vaguest rumour gets column inches on the papers and websites. People can't kid chill out anymore and enjoy the summer they need information and they need it now. That's why 95% of rumours don't come off.
  2. He was released on a free by spurs after never playing for them. ANother career ruined by getting a big move too early. But yes, compensation is rubbish, particularly when a lot of smaller clubs like Crewe rely on their home grown players for income to survive.
  3. Two big men up front, couple of pacy wingers out wide, get the ball into the mixer for for Nolan to pick up the empties. Is it 1986 again?
  4. We had him when we had money, played for us under Pardew.
  5. They post on here and as soon as they see someone mentioned on this thread immediately look up his stats on FM and if they are decent send him an offer him a contract.
  6. Our dream is real.
  7. Yes I remember them, used to wear them for my tyro league side, good socks. Now wasn't that an all away white kit too?
  8. Say what you like about guy askham but he always upheld our traditions. He was a proper chairman.
  9. That's why they've got no offers then.
  10. Locked
  11. Look at his goalscoring record ginge and tell me he wouldn't be a good signing for a low fee.
  12. Less than that I reckon, they want shot of him. Might even get him on a free and pay him a big signing on fee to keep his weekly wage down. If I understand it right villa will also have to pay him off as he hasn't handed in a transfer request.
  13. Do you now see the folly of your username and how it only had a limited self life?
  14. *Predicts 'outrage' from those that prefer paper towels.*
  15. Which means he isn't guaranteed to Improve.
  16. Billy sharp. Who isn't at preseason training today despite being a saints player, he's at Wimbledon. Guess we all know what that means.
  17. Too old, injury prone, no better than Redknapps wife etc.
  18. This will improve my match day experience no end as well as the low power consumption meaning they are also environmentally friendly. It seems Cortese has all angles covered here in what can only enrich the way we support our club as well as protecting the environment.
  19. He's got a very good goal scoring record and would be a decent signing. Villa seem desperate to get him off the wage bill so imagine he'd be available at a good price. We could do a lot worse. He'd definitely get goals.
  20. He's got a point. i remember going to see Saints play Sunderland in the FA Cup in 1985, we won 4-0 in probably one of the most one sided games i'd ever see. Sunderland wore a blue away kit but my dad told me that they had to wear that colour as they usually played in the same colours at us. I always remember leaving the game not celebrating the victory and enjoying seeing my hero steve Moran score two more goals, or even to try to keep warm on a bitter January afternoon on the milton road terrace, but just hoping that we never, ever wore the same kit as a team so rubbish.
  21. One thing we can be sure of is that the chairman is working incedibly hard behind the scenes to bring the people in. I for one have full confidence in our leader to have the right troops in place at the right time to continue our journey and to make our dreams real.
  22. One thing we can be sure of is that whatever happens in the future it will have been well thought, researched and not taken lightly. We can also be sure that the decisons made will be the correct ones, as they have all been thus far in the reign of our chairman. Maybe before the so called supporters of Southampton leap to be outraged they should remember this.
  23. This. I i've got a mate who lives in Amsterdam and he regularly watches FC Twente. Saw him play against Feyenord and was amazing, everywhere, ran the game, scored one, sent one up and made a goal line clearance. Says he's brilliant, dynamic midfielder, good engine, can score goals, tackle, pass. Looks a class act and definitely one we should 100% sign so he is now going into my dream summer signings list.
  24. If there is one thing we've learnt on this incredible journey is that Cortese is not afraid to make decisions which whilst on the face if it are unpopular and appear to be strange, yet even his biggest critic would be unable to argue that decison after decison have proven to be correct and benefitted the club both commercially and soccerbally. I invite you to cast your minds back to August 2010 and January 2013. Unpopular decisions were greated with 'venting of spleens' and 'outage' yet here we are, almost three years on from one decision and 6 months on from the other and who coulda argue that these decisions have be proven to be not only correct but a resounding success. People say they hate the kit and what it stands for. I say that what it stands for is the new Southampton, the club that won't be pushed around, the club that is no longer happy to survive in the top league and be a breeding ground for other clubs players. Tis is a strong and defiant kit, a kit which means business. In many ways it reflects our chairman, not popular at the moment and perhaps controversial. But it stands out, taps the shoulders of the establishment and says we are not afraid, we are evolving, we are changing and stand aside, we are coming for you. No true Saints fan will be against this kit, they will see what it means, they will see how it takes us into a new chapter for SFC, whilst embracing our past. Wen you see this kit you think of Cortese, you think of defiance and our evolution as a club. You will grow to love it and like everything else on this glorious rise from the ashes, you will agree eventually that it was the correct decison.
  25. No too, was in the Rhino.
