i stand corrected, must have missed that, dont understand that at all, thought he was good for us! I do remember one dimwit shouting at Surman during a game when he was sitting with his girlfriend in the stands due to injury "oy Surman, this is the best game you've had all season" div.

He is fit and it cant be just conicidence that Pardew and Adkins haven't given him a run. IMO he deserves a chance, but their must be a reason why he is not being picked.

That is the point of this thread though, players fans said were crap but obviously weren't and proved this. Oakley deserves his place because although he played 300 games for us and was a quality player fans slagged him off all of the time, i remember it clearly. Claims that he is slow, contributes nothing, never scores, only passes sideways and backwards etc, i remember Dave Jones i think saying Oakley was the best footballer at the club and him being mocked for this. Turns out he was far off the mark.

I didn't say we definitely wouldn't now did I. But some seem to think we will get their as a matter of course. The team we have is currently not playing well enough to get us out of this league. We wont get there the season after next, very few teams achieve back to back promotions. We need to get out of this league first then worry about the championship, clubs of similar and bigger size than us plus 3 relegated teams coming down every season with all the parachute payments will make it a massive job to get to the Premier league. Given the form of the players this season none of them are top half Championship players.

i'd get rid of Kevin Davis, doesn't command his area well enough, Richardson, injury prone, Butterfield, too old, Jaidi ditto, Martin, too young too inexpereienced, Fonte, doesn't want to be here, Seabourne, just crap, Harding, mistake prone, Dickson, worse than Harding, Puncheon, rubbish, Chamberlain, too young, Chaplow, too bald, Schniderlin, too slow, Hammond, joke of a caption, lallana, too slow, misses to many chances, Lambert, too slow, crap in the air, Barnard, too blond and going to go to nick anyway, Conolly too old and injury prone, Gully, not as good as Romario in his prime.

I agree with you John, i really dont see why Hammond gets so much stick, a lot of people seem to think the only good players are ones that beat all 11 opposition defenders with a mazey run or bang in goals from 30 yards. None of our players have reached the levels of last season but he seems to be slated everytime he is less than very good.

I have to agree with you CEC. My first game was 25 years ago this weekend, our centenery game v Everton. So up until 2005 i had never known us to be in any other league. Looking at the clubs in the Championship there are probably 10 or so that could also claim they "belong" in the Premier league, you could also include Sheffield Wednesday and possibly Charlton in that group. Saints are in a group of about 25 clubs some of which currently in the premier league who could make a decent fist of it in the right circumstances. We wont ever be one of the very big clubs but there is no reason why given the fan base, stadium, investment etc Saints couldn't do what we have in the past, be a regular fixture in mid/top half of top flight and give it a damn good go at getting European football every now and again. I mean if Fulham can do it. This is why it is frustrating and embrassing being the thirs lowest place team in our region.

Indeed, our results against the better sides that Season weren't that bad, drew twice with Arsenal, beat Liverpool & Tottenham at home, it was drawing at home with the likes of Charlton, Fulham & West Brom which cost us dearly, plus the amount of leads and late goals we conceded, two in injury time against 'boro, injury time equliser against Everton, two goal lead against Aston Villa, we even led Arsenal at Highbury that season going into injury time, but i can forgive that one. If we'd have held on in any of them we'd have stayed up on goal difference.

and only Man City have got back to the top flight, what makes you so sure we will? There is a hell of a long way to go yet.
