Net spend over the last 2 season's transfer windows.
Turkish replied to cobbysouth's topic in The Saints
one of the excuses given for not spending more or even as much as we get is that we factor in wages to the cost of the transfer. What they fail to mention is that when a player is sold they also go off the wage bill. Yes we might have signed a few players on reasonable wages but we've also sold most of our big earners over the past few seasons. Then we have the ridiculous situation where we baulk at paying the going rate for proven premier league players but are happy to hand out contracts not far off £50k a week to players like Stephens and Targett who are simply not good enough to be first choice premier league players. Then there is Forester, handed an extension and a payrise only a year after having one. Our wage bill might have gone up over the last few seasons but it's because we're paying the poorer players more, not because we're bringing in better quality. -
I think you all underestimate just how much effort went into getting the Carillo deal over the line. To spend a record transfer fee to beat off literally no competition for a reserve team striker from an average league takes some special level of negotiation. les has actually had to visit the hospital several times recently to have his hands sown back on after they were bitten off by Monaco reps in negotiations on this deal.

Our last 4 record signings of the bench. We don't buy success we breed it.

Consistently breaking our transfer record..

In fact what with our highest paid player who is has recently been rewarded with a new deal 12 months after signing the previous one and Long with one of the highest costs per goal ROI in premier league history we have a bench to be proud of. -
I think he was the one that said Guly had a clause in his contact that said if fit he had to play a minimum of 15 minutes every game.

yet they all end up on the bench. This season we've had Boufal, Lemina and Gabbiadini on the bench at the same time, if Carillo and Promes can be as misused at this lot by the end of feb we could have a bench of 7 with 5 of them record signings. Surely no other club can boast that? #thesouthamptonway -
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Les Reid went to Moscow to buy a bride called Inga Instead he signed Quincy, who is a sh8t hot winger
-
I know him too, he actually text me at the time about it saying he'd just seen him. He's not one to make things up.

Do you go to games wearing a little skirt and Pom poms? Proper little cheerleader aren't you pal.

I’m in the picture of Shane Long sliding towards the away fans going mental. Incredible night and probably the best goal celebration ever

Everything we do is planned. We planned for this window, we knew what we were doing and we had a list of targets in place for each position. We were tracking Gudio for literally weeks, the fact our current manager used to manage him is pure coincidence.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Les Reed went to Europe to buy a Citeron Belingo instead he signed a striker called Guido Carrillo ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

We are offering £1k more a week than Jack Stephens is on
-
Stephens is such a downgrade on Van Dijk it's scandelous. His defending for the goal today was pathetic, Kane simply brushed him out of the way. Got away with a few bits today as well. For a centre half he is poor in the air. Realistically his current level is 4th choice. Definitely need to buy someone to play alongside Hoedt as Yoshida shouldn't be first choice either.

The last time we beat spurs at home was the season we went down, there are so many similarities between now and then I fully expect us to win 1-0.

£20m is the new £10m The fact of the matter is Walcott is a proven Premier league player and could come in and do a job straight away rather than signing a foreigner who will need to time to adapt to a new country and a new league. That is what we need and that costs money. Regardless of any of that anyway he was clearly our number one target, we made the rare decision to go public on it, stating two or three times via the clubs favoured journalists that we were in for him and confident he'd sign. He didn't, so we've missed out and Reed has failed to bring in a player we considered our most important signing. Time is ticking and this window is fast becoming as shambolic as last January.

Tommy Robinson? HCDAJFU

Whilst we're taking the p*ss out of the club I heard this again at the weekend and I thought of les Reed for some reason.
-
and now the end is near and relegation, it looks certain my friend i'll say it clear we'll soon be playing at home to Burton we're managed by an Argie fool who's worse than that **** Holloway but more much more than this We did the Southampton way Regrets, I've had a few but then again too few to mention we did what we had to do we sold our best players without exception we planned each failing course the black box there along the byway and more much more than this we did it the Southampton way Yes there were times, I'm sure you knew when we bit off more than I could chew but through it all, when there was doubt we'd flog a player, we'd get them out and off they went to Liverpool And we did it the Southampton way
-
Don't we already have enough Centre backs not quite good enough for the premier league?

I've not read it but assume it includes the default "get it forwarrrrrd" "don't mess about with it" a solid 4-4-2 formation with two pacy widemen, a midfielder terror alongside a hardman with a good big lad up front with a good little lad to pick up the flicks

Some fans have never like him for some weird reason. They say the success we've had is inspite of him the bad times we've had are because of him. They don't want to give him any credit whatsoever for some weird reason. Reeds done a good job up until the last year. Despite what people say about Puel you can understand why he got the job and is a perfectly competent manager. However the January transfer window was a shambles last year, the appointment of Pellegrino has been a disaster and Under normal circumstances he now has until the end of the January window to deliver the players we need and ideally a new manager to save his skin Except saints don't operate under normal circumstances. Most businesses of our size have a leader, someone in control who is accountable to the owners or shareholders. We don't. The fact is Reed is probably the highest ranking full time employee at the club which is insane considering his initial role was head of football development when Cortese initially employed him.
-
That article says we're looking for Walcott and a wide player, which suggest Walcott will be our main striker, not what we need. Wide player yes, central striker no.
-
IIRC several media sources linked us with him when he Cortese left. Used to be MD of Liverpool but left after Gillette and Hicks arrived, was then at Chelsea for a short time. I've heard him speak before and he's very impressive.
