You might disagree but in my view it's completely unrealistic to have two top quality right backs on high wages in our squad given the need for reinforcements elsewhere. If KWP stays then we need to be signing a decent LB to play on the other side, not signing a RB and then shunting over the player to play out of position.
-
Being charitable, it may have been an insurance bet in the same way that people bet against their football team so they get a positive out of something negative. Bad optics though.
-
Really? I'd say it would be very much in the balance that we beat the Netherlands.
-
That's my hope - and belief - too. I don't think we'd be so stupid to believe we don't need a top new keeper. Other than a striker it's our most important position.
-
The aim is to survive in the prem. He's more than good enough to be a cb option for this season. It looks like we will be bringing in another cb so if he stays he will probably be played in a 5 at the back or as backup and he is a good option to have.
-
Yes. He's been part of a defence that has comfortably stayed up and played the majority of games. That's the aim for this season too.
-
Bednarek operated very well in the prem at times.
-
Lumley Bazunu McCarthy New keeper. That's a lot of first team keepers.
-
Don't know what you're talking about
-
Last year we had Stephens, THB, Bednarek and Holgate. We have lost Holgate so unless we sell another one we aren't going to sign two cbs.
-
I expect it will be Rodon or Edwards, not both.
-
If we got 25 for him and bought this other guy for 15 you've made 10 million. That's how the club will see it anyway.
-
Nice message on social media. Always liked him.

We simply don't have the resources to keep all our best players and strengthen to the required standard. KWP is the easiest person to sell so imo he's the most likely of our first team squad to go but I hope he doesn't. I won't be in the least bit surprised if he does though for the reasons I outlined. Yes FFP necessitates sales.
-
He might not want to sign a new extended contract. I know it's hard to believe, but if someone like Man United come in for him then he might view their status and trebling of his wages as something desirable. Any transfer could be described as a gamble by that logic.
-
The detriment is that we need to effectively strengthen the team and we won't have the necessary funds to do so to the degree we will need to without some significant money in. KWP is in the last year of his contract and is probably our main sellable asset who could generate a reasonable amount of cash and full back is historically not as big a loss as say a top striker, CB or CM. It may be that we don't sell him and persuade him to sign a new contract but it would surprise me as he would be a top earner and would possibly prevent us from maximising the quality in the rest of the squad.
-
I think you're panicking over nothing. It's early in the window with no idea who or what we are going to go for. Losing someone like KWP with FFP is IMO an inevitability because it allows us to strengthen in other areas. This Japanese RB seems like a really promising signing with good pedigree, dismissing him because no one has heard of him would be like dismissing Mane because lots of people didn't know who he was. Just because a player isn't as well known doesn't make him a poor signing. It was remarkable that we got a season out of KWP in the championship, IF he now goes then he will leave with the thanks of every fan and IMO there's no indication of what else we will or won't do if he goes.
-
Given the constraints of FFP, it's not about a change of mindset, it's what every club in our position would do regardless of the owner.
-
I don't think it will tell us much about their mindset. It makes complete sense to sell him now rather than push to keep what would the be a player on incredibly high wages in the face of solid interest from a top prem team. Any sensible owner of a club of our stature would do the same. Obviously that changes if he asks to stay or something but I can't see it.
-
They'd be mad not to be. Relatively affordable, experienced and a decent player. I was amazed no one took him last year.
-
He's been brilliant and is imo already a legend for staying last season.
-
Obviously not going to play a rb out of position all season.
-
On the face of it seems like a quality signing and we wouldn't be able to justify having him and KWP so you're probably right.
-
No I'm dealing with a reality where we have significantly less resources than a much bigger club like spurs, have to deal with Levy who is notoriously difficult to negotiate with and Alcaraz is clearly a player we would prefer to get cash for given the chance.
-
No one could seriously think that Levy and Spurs are going to pay that for Alcaraz.
