What does that have to do with what I said? Rallyboy is claiming it's ridiculous to say that some on the left have a problem with antisemitism. Antisemitism on the right isn't relevant.

You don't think that some people on the left have a history of anti semitism? Maybe we should ask some Jews what they think? Or read the EHRC report? Or you know just go on social media and read some of the clearly anti semitic comments from many prominent people on the left. Or read newspaper articles on the topic or Google where it is covered extensively (I won't waste time pasting the articles on here but suffice to say there's dozens.) There's tons of evidence that some on the left have an antisemitism problem.

Yes I remember that now! He went on and on about peaceful negotiations with them. He said for ages how bombing them was a bad idea and that it wouldn't work. Turns out it did work and their group has been destroyed. I wonder how his tactic of negotiation and non violent protest would have worked. Thanks for reminding me.

It's honourable and brave to go against the grain of your supposed 'side.' if it's something you believe in.

Loads of people on the left have a history of antisemitism because they view the Jews as powerful and they buy into power dynamics where you can't be opressed if you have power (hence racism is no longer prejudice against someone due to their race and a redefinition of prejudice + power). It's simply incorrect to state that people who view the world through that lens don't consider the Jews to be not part of the oppressed class. That very much is what many think. Not everyone like I said but not an insignificant amount, it's been all over social media for weeks now.
  7. I'd be astounded if we scored three and kept a clean sheet. Much more likely to be a close 2-1.

I bet there's a sentence in this thread somewhere calling Hamas bad or something like that. Rather pales into comparison with the reams of posts about any old thing he finds from Corbyn fanboys on social media...

Not all by any means but I can certainly see this line of thinking from a couple of posters on here. From David baddiel's book.

To be fair, I think he's trying to say that an uprising in Iran will lead to instability and may end up with the people being more oppressed. Personally I don't think that's an argument for it not to happen, but these things do tend to lead to unintended and unforseen occurrences. Of course he threw in some whataboutism criticising Israel but that's standard.

We are never going to agree. You see Israel as the aggressor and the reason that the Palestinians attack Israel and I simply don't agree. It's a fundamental difference that is never going to be reconciled. Israel aren't going to stop until they've satisfied their objectives which is to largely destroy Hamas and cripple it's operations for a number of years. Might as well accept that fact and work on what to do next. An uprising in Iran whilst clearly unpredictable may end up being a net positive in the end. I'd certainly like their people to be less opressed.

Very interesting and a take that I agree with. It would be good if western nations saw the bigger picture and acted accordingly.

Let's remember also that fuel and money that could have been used to improve things and help the average person to prosper has been used to build and run weapons or other infrastructure to target Israel.
  14. Once all the rich countries have had it, hopefully we get it at the decent European countries again. A winter world Cup sucks.

Would be good to have some polling on the matter. I really hope that the innocent Palestinians have enough resolve and will to realise how bad Hamas is for them and push for something different. That imo would go some way to improve things eventually.
  16. Yep. You can bet your life this won't be repeated in future crises.
  17. I saw a journalist slating Boris earlier because he had suggested in some WhatsApp messages that the lives of 85 year olds were worth less than others. I thought that was obvious common sense? Not that I'm any fan of Boris but that seems a weird thing to be slating him for.

It's an absurd comparison let's be honest. The idea that America is going to start throwing gays off buildings, cutting hands off or go and stab non believers because they happen to have a speaker that is probably a fundamentalist Christian and opposes gay marriage and abortion is not a serious argument. On the democrat side you've got many who support sterilisation for children and teaching them about anal sex and drag queen story hour and on the republican side you've got an obsession with guns and qanon conspiracies. Neither are correct but they can't really hold a candle to the extremes of Islam.

The history of Christianity is largely irrelevant nowadays as you say (plus loads of Christians don't have figureheads like you said so not sure that's true anyway.) I'm more concerned about the present day and how a religion impacts the world. It's undeniable that a not insignificant number interpret Islam in a manner that causes great harm to others and infringes peoples' rights. I'd certainly argue that this is to a much greater extent nowadays than all other religions so that's why I have the most problem with the ideology. I wouldn't give a toss if they just left people alone but they don't. I was shocked by how aggressive a relative of my wife was about the subject of Salman Rushdie and this is a generally mild mannered and intelligent man but Islam can and does make people act in ways that I disagree with.

Making abortions more difficult or considering marriage to be between a man and a woman isn't something I'd consider to be extremist, even if I disagree with those policies. I was talking more about making homosexuality illegal or in more extreme cases throwing them off buildings or making women the property of their husbands.

Are you suggesting that the hatred and extremism did not exist prior to this? You seem to be suggesting that this is the cause of the hatred and desire to exterminate Jews. It isn't...

I haven't seen proof of that claim. It's not like Israel haven't had the capability to kill all Palestinians and remove them from Palestine if they had wanted to.
  23. hypochondriac

If the Israelis are going to look to murder every Palestinian they can get their hands on and have rejected any chance for peace given the chance then fair enough.

Does the religion of peace have a problem with extremism?
