  1. With the availability of keepers I just don't see why we'd go through the bother and hard graft of developing a keeper who might be able to be decent eventually. We'd have been better off spending a few more million and buying one much closer to the finished article. It's not like keepers cost the earth and there were plenty of options (there probably still are.)
  2. Mara, Armstrong, Adams and Bazunu are all part of last year's failure and if every one of them left tomorrow it would make no negative difference to the club. You could add Salisu to that as well.
  3. I didn't see much wrong with the football if I'm honest. It's the team who have to carry it out. Imo a team of New gk /Bazunu Tino bednarek new cb Manning Charles Tella jwp Sulemana Alcaraz New striker /Van Hoojdonk? Would be able to start the season and be reasonably confident of success. You could also bring in amo ameyew, a couple of the other youth players and maybe someone like the Swansea captain to replace jwp. That's really only one or two players associated in any big way with last season and thus less tainted. The likes of Armstrong can be introduced if they prove themselves and perform but we mustn't be in a position where we have to rely on them.
  4. I'm not sure if he stays that jwp will be as amazing as people think in the championship. I really would like a bit of a bastard as a captain who won't allow his teammates to fail. Our team seems content with being OK and some of that attitude stems from the captain.
  5. If we had jwp, Charles, Alcaraz, Amo Ameyaw, Sulemana and maybe a new striker to start the season then that's only one player from that first half.
  6. Ball playing cb and a striker is really required. I'm not sure the system suits Tella so wouldn't surprise me to see him go. Ditto Edozie. Alcaraz our best player and needs to stay.
  7. Amo amayew is a serious player
  8. Miles better in the attacking third in, the last ten minutes. Possibly because a lot of the players are nothing to do with last year's turd performances.
  9. Help us Carlos Alcaraz. You're our only hope.
  10. I'm a bit worried that we don't have the players in attack to play a passing game. We have some players who can run with the ball but it doesn't look like we're going to utilise that. I think we need to bring in some attacking talent that can play the way the manager wants to. That might mean selling Tella and maybe someone like Edozie or Sulemana and certainly Stuart Armstrong.
  11. I think it's worth documenting on here how he does this year as he's seemingly first choice. Made a really basic error at his near post today in preseason to allow Goztepe to score. I think my concern about his performance is going to rise after that one.
  12. I don't want it to be one of those things like the striker situation that we don't address and then it becomes really obvious that that is our big weakness for the season.
  13. That was bloody awful from Bazunu. Really worried about him this year.
  14. It seems to me that they need some team bonding time exercises. Get them down Shirley high street trying out an escape room or something.
  15. Presuming he means the women's team?
  16. He's our biggest asset. Selling him probably means we can keep hold of more.
  17. Realistically we do need to sell. I just hope we can hold out to maximise value.
  18. Not just that, we had a number of players who individually were good enough for the prem but we didn't have enough depth in the squad and nowhere near enough guile and experience. We also played a number of confused systems so the squad was unsettled with many not really sure of their roles. I reckon an incredibly disciplined team woukd have come a lot closer to survival. It was the setup as much as the personnel that was the problem.
  19. As much as the first friendly is largely meaningless, it does highlight that some of that same mindset still remains when we are toothless going forward and lack bravery which seems to be essential in a Martin team. Rather than trying to make big mentality changes, it maybe simpler just to sell off quite a number and then replace them with new players that may be of slightly lesser ability but who are less tainted and scarred by the last few years.
  20. The best thing about these players being shite is that I genuinely could not give a shit if they are sold. There's a couple that I think would be nice to keep (largely ones who joined in January or were nothing to do with last year) but otherwise any one of them coukd get sold and I'd be confident we could replace with a better mindset and a bit of bottle.
  21. Tella was one of the top attackers in the championship last year and is a young English player on a long contract. I can't see how he isn't worth at least 20. If we were going to accept 15 then he would have gone by now. ABK is a young German international on a long contract. I'd be amazed if we couldn't get 20+ for him from a European team. I suppose that one is more arguable given he's had a few injuries.
  22. I think we will need to sell Lavia for more than 40 give the man city sell on clause. Jwp should be 25 with addons perhaps for 5 so 30 in total. KWP is 15, Tella we could easily get 20 for and ABK should absolutely go for 20+. That's £120 million and I think that is absolutely realistic.
  23. Not a chance are we going to sell those four and only receive 90 million. You also forgot about Tella.
  24. Olivier Bernard.
  25. 100 million in sales is easy Lavia 40 ABK 25 KWP 15 Adams 15 Diallo 5 Could add a few more defenders to that for small amounts and maybe someone like Sulemana or Tella of course. What it does show is that there's no obligation to sell jwp unless he wants to go.
