The exact same thing happened in the summer where we were heavily linked to players and got gazumped or it fell through. My expectations are very low after the last window so it's difficult to disappoint.
-
Welcome to the club Ayew.
-
There we go. You really shouldn't have hoped.
-
I'm not disappointed at all. I was waiting for the inevitable link to another club and then him going elsewhere and there it is.
-
There we go.
-
This basically. Absolutely no point at all in getting hopes up.
-
I'm fully expecting Ayew.
-
I think it would be better to avoid discussing this until its a lot closer to happening. Been burnt too many times!
-
I think we need to hear that the player is happy to come first before getting hopes up.
-
If that happens we will probably get sulamane you would imagine.
-
We can make an offer for any player tbf. Doesn't mean it's in any way likely to happen
-
So you think that's an unrealistic expectation for a club likes ours? Let's say by some miracle we manage to stay up, would it still be unrealistic in the next window? Or the one after that?
-
I think I agree with you. If we don't get anyone else in I think the club will have realised they can't get anyone in they would like and they don't consider the alternatives worth it. Effectively they will be accepting relegation which is fine but let's not have some bullshit pr from the club tomorrow please about being pleased with what we have etc etc.
-
I don't think that getting in a striker better than Mara, Adams and Armstrong in a year is that difficult actually.
-
We needed to find an attacker that was better than Armstrong, Mara and Adams. We have had a year to do it. It's not unrealistic.

Is the Premier League too rich for us?

Good Post and I agree. Its probably a bit of both of our posts to be honest. In an alternate reality, the likes of Bazunu, Larios and Edozie would have been really decent signings if we had got in some seasoned pros like you had mentioned and then we wouldn't have to have relied on then so much but maybe then they wouldn't have come here in the first place. I do think that if/when we go down this year that one of the factors will have been our aversion to getting in some Premier league experience and relying to heavily on unknowns and kids. -
I think we should sign a player that is more likely to join us who is better than Adams and Mara. We've had a year to look for realistic options. Shouldn't be difficult.
-
All a bit late to be suggesting players now I would expect.
-
I really don't blame Jones now. It's the club hierarchy that deserves the derision and if it stays like this we will be relegated which at the very least will see their egos and reputation take a hit which is some small consolation.

Quite similar to the Lowe era in some ways but with updated figures. -

Whilst I agree, I do think to a degree that we simply don't have the cash to spend on real quality so anything we do buy will be a gamble. I think at the very top end we would sanction a 25 million pound signing but that's the equivalent of about 15 from a few seasons ago. We clearly aren't prepared to pay the 30 million plus required for the top end talent for teams like West ham and villa etc and I expect the bigger players aren't really prepared to come here. We've clearly also had a mindset change from a few years ago where we think more small-time and that has an impact too. Brighton are having their moment in the sun but I'd like to see then in 5-7 years as I expect they will be in the same position as we are now. -
I think there's a chance that their thinking is that they can't attract someone of the quality they want given our position and that maybe they think we need a bit of a reset in the championship and that's a preferable option to spending 30 million now to maybe improve our chances of survival. What they want is a load of youngsters with time and opportunity to improve that they can then flog for a profit to buy the next batch. Realistically they aren't going to be able to achieve that goal in the prem without first spending a load of money on more established players.

There's quite a few attackers in the champion ship that may be more realistic. Someone like akpom or the guy from Hull. It's not great but at least we'd know they could do a job next year if we did go down.

If he does well enough and keeps us up then I would expect most fans would be on board.
