  1. What's interesting is that supposedly the niqab actually has nothing at all to do with Islam and in many cases is a rather recent phenomenon. I understand the argument for letting people wear what they want but it is interesting that supposedly Muslim countries like Turkey are banning it in public too.
  2. If that's the end of our window then I'd give us a 5/10 considering how weak we were at the start of it. As someone else has said, it's possible that our failure to shift some of our rubbish has prevented us from bringing in any more quality.
  3. I agree with a lot of what you said. Virtually none of that had anything to do with what I posted though. Curious to know what "facts" I've got wrong there? Most of what you posted was an opinion...
  4. Very interesting that Johnson is accused of a nonsense word like Islamaphobia when the niqab has nothing do with Islam: When Boris Johnson mocks the niqab, he is emphatically not mocking Muslim women because – and this is a point that we Muslims seem to be unable to get across to non-Muslims – there is no basis in Islam for the niqab. Claiming otherwise is a profound distortion of Islamic belief. That’s why*Muslim nations are themselves regulating and banning the niqab and burqa*– as in both Morocco and Turkey where these coverings are seen as an invasion of Salafist affinities and a risk to national security and societal integrity
  5. And another very interesting article from the Spectator:
  6. Depends what sentiment you mean. It's undoubtedly been used to try to shut down any sort of criticism of Islam. It's not something that was being widely used for this purpose until a few years ago. It's not even technically correct since a phobia is an irrational fear and there's certainly perfectly rational reasons to be fearful or at the very least hugely critical of many parts of the Islamic world as you are fully aware.
  7. Stop following me around the board soggy.
  8. If we use the money to get in an attacking player then fair enough.
  9. He mentioned it in passing as part of his column. Muslims were saying he spent half he article discussing it which is untrue. Oh and islamaphobia is clearly an invention from the last few years.
  10. It showed that he was better than pellegrino. That certainly doesn't make him good. Not for us anyway.
  11. Agreed. I doubt we will sign anyone but I'd love to be pleasantly surprised.
  12. Let's be honest. If he wasn't an academy player then no one would care.
  13. If we are set on playing three CBs then we are one decent defender short. I don't want one of bednarek or Stephens to be a starter and I'm very unsure about Hoedt too.
  14. Not for me. Not enough quality at the back or up front.
  15. Absolutely. I can't see it happening but I'd be chuffed and it should give us some fresh impetus up top.
  16. How true Of course there are so many problems with this tactic (for tactic it is) that it is hard to know where to begin. How about with the basics? Such as the fact that anti-Semitism is a centuries (indeed millennia) old disease, rooted not in facts but in conspiracy-theories, and which in living memory led to the physical annihilation of a third of the world’s Jewish population. Whereas ‘Islamophobia’ is a concept invented by Islamists in the 1990s in order to try to prevent any and all criticism of the religion of Islam.
  17. Edit wrong thread
  18. Well well well. How interesting.
  19. I accept its tougher but its not a coincidence that our recruitment success has fallen off a cliff once the influence of our old recruitment team has disappeared. The last player you could say who has been undeniably a success is probably vvd with most other buys since then at least being debatable and many being a shocking waste.
  20. Absolute cack. A couple of dribblers on here slagged mane off. The vast majority could see what a special talent he was. Wanyama was a special player when we bought him and celtics best player that had won praise from Barcelona and Toby had shown great potential as well. We can't buy mega stars but we can absolutely buy quality unlike some of our recent terrible buys that have been a complete waste.
  21. I'm guessing that's a joke. The point is we can be well coached and have great team spirit and also get in one or two standout players. We did it under poch and whilst I accept we are very unlikely to have that rare set of circumstances again, I do sense a feeling that most fans feel we could be doing a heck of a lot better than we have been with both recruitment and coaching.
  22. How about coaching, team spirit and also getting in one or two stars like mane or alderweireld. It's not an either or thing.
  23. I'd like to know what changed from our statements about aiming for champions league to Ralph in December emphasising what a small club we are. Did ambitions change? Or was there less finance available under Gao than we had previously. If this is the case then why did Kat sell?
  24. I've made my view perfectly clear. I don't know enough about Corbyn's personal views to ascertain if he is or isn't. As Duckhunter said, Margaret Hodge seemingly knows him fairly well and thinks he is. I can see why some of his actions would make people believe he is. If I'm honest I think he probably harbours quite a bit of sympathy for pro Palestinian activists- some of whom have views that could be described as anti semetic. Whatever the truth, he has handled this whole thing in characteristically appaling fashion.
