  1. Hughes has had some poor seasons and some decent season in the prem. He is experienced, British and knows the league. We need someone for 8 games minimum who can keep us up. Given our position right now, the fact we need someone in quickly, the fact we need someone who can command a bit of respect and how unnatractive we would be to higher profile candidates at this stage, Hughes would be one of the best realistic candidates available. If he can get us into similar form that saw Stoke finish top ten for three season in a row--no reason why not--then I'm happy to give him a chance. We could have not sacked pellegrino this week and waited till the end of the season and Hughes as manager for the last 8 games is vastly preferable, particularly if he manages to keep us up.
  2. I was referring to the pellegrino bit not qpr.
  3. He's a great appointment in comparison to pellegrino. I wasn't referring to qpr I was talking about your comparison with pellegrino and his success in Spain. That has no relevance to Hughes having some success at Stoke.
  4. This is now the biggest game we have left. Win this and I think we will stay up. I'm going and will be hoping for a cracking atmosphere. Huge.
  5. What does that have to do with success in the premier league? Would you rather have kept pellegrino?
  6. But I'm afraid it was quite obviously the wrong thing to do. Giving managers more time can be an honourable trait but by December there were zero signs at all that anything was being done differently to try to turn things around. The fact we have now sacked him shows that we should have done it much earlier and that combined with our awful January window may now result in our relegation.
  7. What about the one who improved Stoke and led them to top ten finishes?
  8. Good news. Preferable to pellegrino and gives us a better chance of survival. I hope everyone gets right behind him for the last eight games and we see a bit of passion and attitude from the squad.
  9. I don't think it's the mistake or few mistakes that have been the issue, it's the inaction and doing nothing at all that have made people question things.
  10. Yep just about sums it up. If hughes keeps us up then he deserves longer. In many ways it's an extended job interview which whilst it is not ideal, is vastly superior to keeping pellegrino.
  11. Lol. I'd rather have someone with experience of managing in the premier league thanks. We don't even know that kelvin would want the job in the unlikely event that we would offer it to him and he has zero managerial experience. Don't get me wrong I'd have taken him over pellegrino if thst was the only option but we'd be crazy to turn down Hughes over someone who has never been a manager.
  12. Would you rather have Hughes in charge or pellegrino? If you answered Hughes then this can only be a positive development and it will hopefully give us a better chance to stay up.
  13. My sisters boyfriend is an ex footballer and knows a lot of current players. He says Hughes thinks a lot of himself and is a bit of a c*nt by all accounts. Sounds like we need a bit of that to be honest after pellegrino.
  14. Silva has been linked with someone else in the summer. It's quite likely he wouldn't come here in my opinion.
  15. Don't know what's wrong with some people. We have 8 games left in this terrible season. We will be pretty unnatractive to many candidates, we want Premier league experience and someone who has had a bit of success. Potter is too much of a gamble at this stage and other options people have named are unrealistic at this stage of the season. Would you rather we kept pellegrino? Or gave Hughes a chance to possibly keep us up?
  16. "Southampton felt that he could be a long term success". Absolutely zero indication of that and a terrible lack of judgement.
  17. Some weird reactions to Hughes potentially coming in. Compared to pellegrino he would be a brilliant appointment. I said I'd welcome almost anyone and that is certainly the case here.
  18. Because we have 8 games and are a good bet to be relegated so we won't be attracting managers above our station with big reputations. It will be Hughes or someone of a similar calibre I expect. All this stuff about paying a big name 10 million to keep us up has never been done in the history of the league and we won't do it either.
  19. Not very realistic though are they.
  20. Prem experience and not silva? Looks like Hughes is the obvious choice or Nigel Pearson. Surprised we wouldn't at least try for silva unless we already know he would turn us down.
  21. His interviews were marginally more tolerable than Puel's.
  22. Which makes you wonder why we weren't willing to spend that money a few months ago. We would be nowhere near the position we are now in with even a semi competent manager.
  23. What rubbish. Mark Hughes will probably get the job and would be infinitely preferable to pellegrino despite his limitations.
  24. If we go down now at least we have a fresh start and I'm happier going to games.
  25. Thank the lord.
