TBF I was trying to base it on pre season performance and what we know historically. Archer seems like he's done quite well in preseason even if he wasn't great today.

Would it be fair to say that based on friendlies so far and our remaining players that our best eleven would currently be: Ramsdale Edwards Woods THB Wellington Downes Charles Dibling Fernandes Robinson Archer/Downs?

I'll be honest though I'm starting to get a bit concerned about our attack. It looks very ineffective and we aren't controlling games. Still time but like other shave said we need to shift some players and get replacements. Probably too late for the start of the season now though sadly.

Isn't Downs meant to be quite good at that? Maybe he will play alongside Archer.

Well then the answer to your question is in all likelihood no.

I've seen plenty of players perform well in preseason and score goals and then be shite in the real games. The logic is the same here.

Not sure we can read much into half a preseason game against a second division Spanish side.

Strange thing to do though given we have two perfectly adequate right backs already.

For me it's more about what they represent. It will be a real hit to morale to lose Ramsdale and then not replace him because fans don't really want either of his replacements in goal given the choice.

Putting it another way, I am something of an expert on poor keepers given what we've had to work with over the last few seasons so I can say with confidence that Ramsdale is not one!

I know and I said as much on the previous page. He's clearly a pre ie league standard keeper, it's just that most prem clubs have keepers as good ad they don't need one that they want to spend that amount on.

You were told by someone else that "the rest was lacking?" I don't need someone else to tell me, I watched almost every game last season and I could see he was a decent keeper.

Just because 17 prem teams all have a decent keeper does not necessarily mean that Ramsdale isn't just as good as them.

I didn't say it was but it is a factor.

Not for me. He was decent and not at fault for our losses. In fact, his saves won us the Everton game.

My only real issue is giving him a three year contract. If we had to give him an extension then I'd have given him till 2027.

If the opposing manager has no championship experience either then possibly yes.

Zero experience in the championship is the point. I think he will do well for us but it wouldn't surprise me if he takes a few games to find his feet in a new league.

That wouldn't surprise me. Would just be a bit of a shame though because that probably means we're cashing in other assets. I'd probably take keeping Fernandes and Dibling if we just lose Ramsdale and THB.
