So it was an option to renegotiate the treaties and opt out of freedom of movement for those economically active, or a student or economically independent whilst remaining a member?

So it was an option to renegotiate the treaties and opt out of freedom of movement whilst remaining a member? Didn't Cameron try to do some renegotiation and got effectively laughed out of the room?
-
Right so at the point that we left we had to accept freedom of movement and controls over subsidies of industries in order to continue being a member.
-
You were pretty silly if you voted to leave thinking that it would be good for the economy.
-
So we can veto every law if we liked and still be part of the EU? We can subsidise any industry we fancy and remain part of the EU?
-
So it is possible to be in the EU, subject to their laws without freedom of movement? And we are allowed to subsidise any of our industries that we like?
-
I don't really have much desire to examine arguments from years ago, I was simply challenging the assertion that finance was the only and most important consideration for people who voted to leave. Regarding your point about sovereignty. Is it the case that Britain had a veto over freedom of movement? Government subsidies of industries? Fishing quotas? So we could veto these things and do what we wanted?

I can't be anti-ginger. My wife's one...

I expect that some people didn't much like the pooling and thus dilution of democracy, the fact that some laws were nodded through without proper scrutiny, that elected politicians in the UK could defer to Brussels and could outsource any responsibility for decision making and I think that some people were attracted to the idea of UK politicians being properly held to account for their decisions without using excuses that their hands were tied by something that brussels were saying they had to enforce. I'd say that none of that is to do with financial considerations which was always going to be more difficult after leaving.
-
What if people who voted to leave valued other factors higher than purely financial considerations?

I think we coukd probably get away with McCarthy playing the odd game and it not completely feck up our survival chances. Hopefully the injuries were just freakish occurances.

Not the most reliable source in the world but absolutely brilliant news if we are still being linked with a striker.

Everyone else immediately mentally sacked off that loser Ramsdale and jumped aboard the Bijlow express?

Sekou Mara - Official: Signs for Strasbourg

Thanks for the post. I think we can infer that the signings done on that system could well be the ones from foreign leagues that are done very quickly with seemingly little back and forth - like Fernandes for example. It certainly makes things simpler and gives you access to players that you may not have been aware of. -
I completely agree and I made a similar post this morning. I'm kind of resigned to our current strategy which seems to be sticking a few attacking okayers around the area and hoping one of them scores a few rather than having a focal point striker. Still some hope we could get a brilliant youngster on loan though and get them leading the line. Any ideas?

It's how we got the THB loan last year. It would make absolute sense for a team like Chelsea to have a loose partnership with a smaller club in the same league. Yes we are technically competitors but not really. -
If we go through with this signing it does have the feeling that we're almost there. If we do lose Alcaraz then I really feel that we need one more attacking player as an alternative to Fernandes (Aribo is solid and works hard but without the trickery and bit of magic that Alcaraz provides.) if we got that and then maybe a winger I think we coukd be content even though you'd always want just one more.

I know that rasmus' relation owns that football site where clubs put what they have available and for sale. I wonder if saints and Chelsea are on it? If so makes sense how we were able to arrange the lesley loan so quickly and then they've seemingly helped us to sell Mara to their feeder club. -
Quite a few saves there I've never seen Bazunu or McCarthy make. Exciting.
-
What is the price range? Anyone know?
-
Lesley?

He does sound like a top keeper though who would be entirely out of our reach had he not had these injuries. Rather like Ipswich gambling with Broja, maybe this is the sort of move we need to do and hope it pays off to give us a good chance.
-
Indeed. Premier league wonderkid up top on loan please!

His injury record is here. Certainly seems to be a lot and quite varied. Maybe just bad luck. Justin Bijlow - Injury history | Transfermarkt

Oh God. I can see Martin reading these words and quietly fondling himself in the corner of the room.
