Right so at the point that we left we had to accept freedom of movement and controls over subsidies of industries in order to continue being a member.

I don't really have much desire to examine arguments from years ago, I was simply challenging the assertion that finance was the only and most important consideration for people who voted to leave. Regarding your point about sovereignty. Is it the case that Britain had a veto over freedom of movement? Government subsidies of industries? Fishing quotas? So we could veto these things and do what we wanted?

I expect that some people didn't much like the pooling and thus dilution of democracy, the fact that some laws were nodded through without proper scrutiny, that elected politicians in the UK could defer to Brussels and could outsource any responsibility for decision making and I think that some people were attracted to the idea of UK politicians being properly held to account for their decisions without using excuses that their hands were tied by something that brussels were saying they had to enforce. I'd say that none of that is to do with financial considerations which was always going to be more difficult after leaving.

What if people who voted to leave valued other factors higher than purely financial considerations?

I think we can infer that the signings done on that system could well be the ones from foreign leagues that are done very quickly with seemingly little back and forth - like Fernandes for example. It certainly makes things simpler and gives you access to players that you may not have been aware of.

I completely agree and I made a similar post this morning. I'm kind of resigned to our current strategy which seems to be sticking a few attacking okayers around the area and hoping one of them scores a few rather than having a focal point striker. If we go through with this signing it does have the feeling that we're almost there. If we do lose Alcaraz then I really feel that we need one more attacking player as an alternative to Fernandes (Aribo is solid and works hard but without the trickery and bit of magic that Alcaraz provides.) if we got that and then maybe a winger I think we coukd be content even though you'd always want just one more.
