  1. No, Gazzaniga is an inexperienced youngster. Davis is a very experienced shotstopper with too many weaknesses.
  2. A touch of common sense at last.
  3. Of course it was, so was the back pass, he got away with it. So was Lambert losing Williamson he didn't get away with it, so was Hooiveld's slice, they gave the goal away.
  4. Gazzaniga didn't let us down. The mistake he made under pressure from an awkward ball from Lallana, apart from that he was alright, that mistake didn't even begin to compare with Artur Boruc's aberration v Arsenal. He is a young, inexperienced lad playing in the most unforgiving place on the football pitch and he's all we've got. Lambert lost Williamson, Hooiveld sliced his clearance for the goal. Caught out of goal twice but caught the header, made a save then Chambers cleared off the line. Slaughtering him isn't going to make him better. Davis probably had his best game to date, shame about the shot, a couple of inches to the right and it was in. A lung buster run to the right and a perfect pass to Rodriguez to score. In the end a good result at an in form team.
  5. Conservative with a damn good MP but like a lot of others will likely vote UKIP in the European elections to give the government a nudge they won't like.
  6. No thought for Spastics. Just demonstrates your ignorance. I don't 'feel' anything it's an opinion held by many but I suspect few if any on the liberal/labour left.
  7. I have dual nationality. In England I'm English. As a long haul airline captain I wouldn't mind betting I had a damn sight more experience of successfully mixing with different races and creeds in their countries. It seems that the discrimination in this country is mostly against the native population. Immigrants need to integrate not be encouraged to live in ghettos which certainly don't encourage integration and even now are causing problems between immigrants of different nationalities. Pakistanis patrolling their streets in Sheffield against Roma immigrants. When was the last time an ethnic English man bombed a train or bus? Went to Syria to fight or worse Afghanistan against British troops. I would suggest the influx of immigrants in this country in the last ten years can in no way be compared to Norway. We are relatively unscathed around Hampshire but the people of eg. Boston or Peterborough might well have a different view.
  8. At a time we needed to try and shore up a back four leaking goals. Now we play two there.
  9. At a time we needed to try and shore up a back four leaking goals. Now we play two there.
  10. The nationalism of this country has been diluted by the immigration policies and the growth of political correctness. One only has to see the crowds of residents especially Indian and Pakistanis supporting our opponents during test matches. Or Poles etc at football matches against their mother countries.
  11. This country couldn't have gone to war in the late thirties and was pretty much as far as the air force and army concerned, run down with no political will to do anything. It was only a few far sighted individuals that conceived, lobbied and caused the ordering of advanced aircraft that were still in short supply in 1940. The same with the army. In 1940 we were still militarily weak but by the grace of radar, hurricanes and spitfires we fought off the Luftwaffe. The two years of rearmament allowed us to survive. Should we have committed to defending Poland then going to war? The politicians who committed us were bluffing as our services were in no state to back that commitment. It was the same complacent short term expediency that our military is suffering today.
  12. Fonte in particular often dithers and is closed down then passes back to the keeper who, unless another open outlet is available then sends it long. In those circumstances I would prefer the keeper to aim for Lambert further up rather than the chip down the line often creating a 50/50 inside our half.
  13. Because the best defensive headers are in the centre back positions.
  14. From 21st Dec to 4th Jan the cup game will be 5 games in 14 days, I can't see past a full shadow side.
  15. Lambert will always see the pass to put a better positioned player in which IMO result in more goals than Dani Osvaldo can score and often ignores better placed players to do his own thing. His last two goals were examples of both styles.

    Cork / Wanyama

Pretty good summary of where they are. If Cork plays well and the results are good with the midfield playing well as a unit, Vic should wait for his chance to get back in. I will say that Cork is a much more secure midfielder than Davis whose game is mostly finding space receiving and passing with the odd longer attacking ball but doesn't close down tightly or tackle much (2 on Sat, 27th and 75th mins when most of the team tackled a lot). I think he has been unused as a sub at times when he really was a better option than Davis. When Wanyama comes back he should be clear of the booking problem which becomes 10 before suspension at the beginning of January.
  17. I take it you didn't go to the match. Your man of the match Steven Davis made his first tackle on 27 minutes, and his second on 75 minutes hardly a man of the match. Whilst Cork, Chambers, JWP, Shaw, and the centre backs made tackle after tackle to shut Man City out. Davis was neat and tidy but not a patch on the outstanding Cork.
  18. No Canada Saint has come from Edmonton Alberta.
  19. Considering Lovren, dived in and missed for the first, gave the ball away leading to the second and was nowhere in sight for the third what were some people seeing. Nobody criticising him, why not? Or Clyne and Lallana giving the ball away for the first and the third. He had no chance with any of the goals. Anybody who thinks he could have come for the angled cross for the second with two defenders present and probably wouldn't have got there lacks an appreciation of problem for him. He would have been slaughtered. I am confident neither Boruc or Davis would have come for it either.
  20. We Didn't! When Rodriguez got down the left to the bye line in the first half nobody made the run to get into the box for his cross. This happens far too often our forwards just don't make the runs on the off chance just stand still waiting for the pass back to continue trying to walk the ball into the net.
  21. The goalkeeper had to stay on his line because of the angle of the cross. Fonte was at fault because he wasn't goal side and didn't go for the ball. He had nothing else to do and nobody else to mark so he had to get his head on the ball. He was facing the crosser and failed to read the cross, Kosak was goalside and in front of him.
  22. As Jimmy Greaves once said "It's a funny old game". There are so many different opinions, who was rubbish and who made mistakes. Firstly the first goal, Clyne ran down a blind alley, was blocked off tried a pass to Lallana who had no chance and the ball was given away, whacked up the line, Yoshida had little chance to intercept after that it was all over, Lovren sold himself and Gazzaniga was left high and dry with two Villa players. No chance with that one. The second, Lovren in the clear went to send it long and miskicked to a Villa player, Cork won it back tried to look for Shaw and slipped Villa with the ball good cross to the near post over Yoshida, Fonte was the wrong side of Koska who buried the header, Gazzaniga no chance again. The third on the edge of the Villa penalty area Lallana gave the ball away when not under pressure, Delph ran though Fonte backed off as did Yoshida, Cork was coming back just left of Yoshida, Yoshida then started to challenge but Delph hit it swerving away into the top corner, Gazzaniga no chance again. This was Delph's first ever Premier goal and it could have gone anywhere. If Yoshida had dived in too early and missed as Lovren did for the first we were wide open. Nobody could have anticipated that shot. I think our game has been based on the block of four in the centre of the field which is the foundation for the way we play. Last night that wasn't there because of the jogging Davis playing. We would have been better placed with Cork teamed with Wanyama in front of the centre backs. West Brom played the same way last season but we persisted in waves of attacks which sucked Davis and the full backs in leaving the centre backs exposed to the through ball. The central block of four covers the full backs and provides the depth. Our game doesn't work against a team that doesn't pass the ball but sends it forward mostly first time to quick forwards unless we maintain that depth. Davis is neat and tidy but slow and just doesn't do the defensive covering which left us exposed because of our attacking full backs. We can press high against passing teams but we can't play the same way against teams missing out midfield. It's all very well having 77% possession but then conceding goals after giving the ball away is nonsense. Both our goals came from balls hit in from wide, against these teams we need a lot more of those crosses. It's a lot more difficult then to make the interceptions and mostly ends up with the ball headed back out to be recycled wide and crossed again.

    Boruc

Davis kicks well off the ground and often hit Lambert. However we don't play that way now. Secondly we don't concede many shots which means his weaknesses are more significant to our game than his strengths. I think Gazzaniga will benefit from a run of games as long as he plays competently. When he played in the early part of last season he let in less goals than the other two at that time despite a rash of deflected goals. Whilst he was in goal, he also played in most of our good results. The two standout errors were v Swansea and Norwich but our hero Boruc has been hardly blameless in the last few games with a similar pass to Wanyama v Hull and Arsenal but hypocritically most of Gazzaniga's detractors choose to ignore that but still harp on about Gazzaniga's two errors.

    Boruc

At last, an unbiased unemotional opinion. Both goals were a nightmare for any goalkeeper a looping back header and a brilliant difficult to anticipate unorthodox deflection by Ba. As far as I am concerned Boruc is a cracking keeper despite the three recent soft goals against Stoke, Hull and Arsenal. However he is now injured and isn't going to be playing again any time soon. I know what Davis brings to the table, brilliant shotstopping, good long kicking but then poor with crosses, doesn't command his area, poor distribution, vulnerable at the near post and palms saves back out to incoming forwards. As for Gazzaniga, I thought he did OK and hope that he has a decent run of games and gives Pochettino a selection problem when Boruc is fit.
  25. Osvaldo was disappointing running into blind alleys, taking lots of touches and making little attempt to try and put anyone else in on goal. He looks very much a Me Me Me every time type of player.
