  1. Be even funnier if Dan James going out was finalised before Leeds got shafted.

Like I said, diplomacy and politics will be more important than the exact letter of the law. That said, if Russia never legally had a claim on the USSR’s position, it might open up some interesting conversations on whether they ever had a claim to some of the benefits the USSR had, for example the permanent position on the security council and their veto, if there was the political will for it. After all, what’s to say that Ukraine wouldn’t have had a claim on those benefits? If nothing else making Russia have to defend their position will have some effect.

Speculation I’ve seen is that at that time, Khazakstan would have in effect been the USSR, as Russia left before Khazakstan did. Russia technically was just a former member with no claim to the USSR’s position.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-62750584 His company reporting it was ‘after a severe illness’ apparently. Sounds like they’re making the Russian line as implausible as possible without outright claiming he’s been assassinated. I’d think even going as far as that isn’t without risk in Russia at the moment.
  5. Sounds like Dieng to Leeds is all but done, might bring PSV back to the table with us for Gakpo if they need the money.

So, while the USSR was a member of the UN, Ukraine has requested the records for when Russia started being part of the UN. Looks like Russia never joined, and there’s no legal mechanism that allowed them to take on the USSR’s membership. Apparently no one else has ever thought to ask. Of course in an organisation like the UN the exact letter of the law takes a back seat to diplomacy, and Russia aren’t completely without allies in the UN, but given their current status in the eyes of the World, it’s certainly an interesting question to ask.
  7. We have got Caleta-Car Defends just like a jaguar … There’s a start for you
  8. Today’s the last day of the transfer window, it’s certainly not early on. It’s not exactly falling apart either, we’ve got two more very promising players from City’s academy and Maitland-Niles coming in, and even if we don’t get anyone else today, it still looks like being one of our best transfer windows in years.
  9. Sounds like Leeds offered a bit more money to make them turn away our bid, and then Gakpo turned down Leeds? Sounds unlikely the player will force the move to us, unlikely we’ll increase our offer, and unlikely that they’ll accept less money, but I guess the day’s not over just yet.
  10. Aw man, sad because it’s over but happier because it happened sums it up perfectly for me too. Always felt like he gave his all, but knew exactly where the line was, booked so many times but never once got sent off for us, must have been a nightmare to play against. There aren’t many players that have bought into playing for Saints as much as he did; He’ll be missed, he’s a player whose career I’m always going to keep track of. Maybe we’ll even see him back here in a coaching role one day! Thank you Oriol.
  11. Supposedly our efforts to buy up the entire Man City academy have continued.
  12. Played really well, and this time got the result the performance deserved! Adams’ hold up play has been immense so far this season, a new striker in to play off him that turns out as good as our other signings and this season could start to look very interesting!

Seems so. OPSEC means any details beyond ‘this is happening’ are thin. Ukraine have been keeping their tanks back from the front lines, between captured tanks and military aid donated, they’ve got more armour now than they started with. If they’re using them to support an infantry advance, unlike Russia that have been constantly misusing them as a spearhead, they’re likely to see much more success. If we hear anything more than rumours that tanks have been committed, that’ll likely be the first concrete indication that this is a serious move by Ukraine.

  17. Daylight robbery that they won that, Saints by far the better team. New signings are looking better and better. The ref… well…

I’ve read this several times and I’m just genuinely curious what point you were trying to make now.

No, they’re still not. Only an utter ****wit would even begin to try and use this to justify the utterly reprehensible evil that Russia has been responsible for.

It’s possible this was Ukraine spec ops, but there are a few factors that don’t add up for that. The risk to any SOF in Moscow would be extreme, for arguably negligible benefit, and it gives Putin another way to ‘justify’ to the Russian people invading Ukraine. Not to mention it doesn’t fit with Ukraine’s actions so far. All of Ukraine’s sanctioned military action has been by the book, and they know that’s part of the reason they’re being backed by NATO so heavily. The risk-reward isn’t anywhere near adding up. Ukraine sympathising Russians? Maybe, especially if someone got it into their head that this could end the war, but it’d be surprising if some random person evaded Russian security measures that must have been as tight as possible even before this. Russian false flag? More possible, but Russia are already throwing more or less everything they can short of nukes with (apparent) wide popular support with the propaganda already in place. This won’t tip the balance on escalation, but I guess it’s possible it’s the start of a campaign to try to start to erode the rock-solid support Ukraine currently has. Another possibility is that the wheels of power in Russia are starting to see the writing on the wall for Putin, and this is about who’ll be the next one in power. When Putin goes, one way or the other, it’ll leave an unbelievable power vacuum, and if he’s started to lose his grip on power, that vacuum may already be starting to have an effect.

Who knew that having a few ammo dumps exploding every night, each taking between a few days and a few weeks to replenish, is the way to succeed in modern warfare?

Quite amazing that Ukraine are kicking Russia’s arse back to the 1930s and they’re not even using the foreign aid to do it.
