  1. It's because "emergency" loans are allowed outside the window, but loans between clubs in different countries are actually conducted as permanent transfers, with the player's registration being held by the loaning club, but a legally binding agreement being written that obliges the loaning club to return the registration to the parent club at the end of the loan period. As a result, because we already held his registration, all we effectively did was extend his contract from 3 months to (I assume - can't be bothered to look it up again) 3 years, paying Celtic whatever fee it was to cancel the "return his registration to us" contract. Massive loophole there, and only available to us because the Football League allows loans outside the transfer windows. A Premier League club wouldn't have been able to do it.
  2. That seems very low. When we got in the playoffs in 2007, we scraped in on the last day with 75 points!
  3. Not entirely convinced that account's actually him, seems to be one of those auto-generated ones that only ever gets used to post links to his articles.
  4. Apologies, my mistake
  5. Since when did you turn right-wing?
  6. Perfect timing for Bates, means that any new manager won't be in a position to demand a big budget to get the team in the play-offs.
  7. Charlie Sale is your man there, he's a Saints fan...
  8. And the rest. Nearer £7 these days.
  9. I'd also suggest that as a software writer, he clearly hasn't been looking very hard for work over the last 11 years. Programming and web development are two industries where spending and employment has remained very high despite massive job losses up and down the country.
  10. I expect that was from a thread with a hotlinked image (i.e. an image hosted elsewhere but displayed on the thread), obviously we've got no control over the speed those files can be displayed. I've just run a virus/malware scan on the server and there's nothing there. ART, you've had these problems in the past (strangely not replicated by anybody else), have you looked to see whether you've got malware on your PC? Using any sort of P2P software has its inherent risks, none of which are linked to SaintsWeb as we don't use it.
  11. Correct. The Echo have ballsed up there. They did, doing it that way also allowed Coventry to prevent Jutkiewicz from playing against them last week. As he was on loan at the time, he was ineligible to play against his parent club. Boro were happy to allow that to happen in exchange for getting him in time to face Burnley the game before, not that it made any difference as they ended up losing both games
  12. It just goes to show how ridiculous the rules are that if we'd signed him on loan this morning, he would have been available tonight
  13. Al Jism? Surely that's a made-up name
  14. I'd take Henderson and Pearce, but that would be it.
  15. Imagine the fury at Upton Park if we, not content with signing a player they were clearly after, signed the centre-back they couldn't afford to keep last summer
  16. This one as well... http://newsthump.com/2012/01/30/liverpool-fans-gather-outside-court-to-boo-assault-victims/
  17. It'll be either Tuesday 7th or 8th, depending on whether it's chosen for TV. Two of the replays will be televised, with three games (currently) having gone to replays: Saints v Millwall Sheffield Wednesday v Blackpool Middlesbrough v Sunderland I'd guess the other two are more attractive games for ITV and ESPN, to be honest.
  18. More likely the introduction of the Financial Fair Play regulations next season.
  19. It would be a bit odd if, having spent the last two and a half years not saying a word about transfer deals until the player is photographed holding a shirt with his name on the back of it, all of a sudden they started saying "yeah, by the way, we've made a bid of £Xm for so-and-so, we'll keep you posted on developments". Nothing draws suspicion and conspiracy theories more than a surprise about-turn in policy.
  20. I'd say Aaron Martin was our man of the match, tbf, but Puncheon not far behind him.
  21. I think they'll be ok, Daniel Levy's been pretty firm when it's come to transfer policy. They've not really spent big on anyone in the last two years or so, £7m for van der Vaart, £3m for Parker and however much the loan fee was for Adebayor, and that's about it really. I don't think Redknapp was ever going to be allowed to do his usual "wheeler-dealer" thing there.
  22. Yeah, Derby beat Palace in the last round and are at home to Stoke tomorrow.
  23. Anyone reckon this page might move quite quickly?
