Saints Web Horse Tipping Challenge July 2010

Windsor 8.10 Pearl Huntsman NAP Ayr 4.30 Cheveton nb EW Good luck all, Ayr looks very trappy. -
It's only thanks to a pm from Frankie sent yesterday...... Sunday Bloody Sunday !!! that I'm even sure it is Monday. To make a hard day even more difficult you have Hannon to consider as his horses really are running very well at the moment, (5 winners on Saturday alone at around 1300/1 ! ) and Channon who runs several at Ayr including The Human League in the 5.30 which for no reason I can see has been very supported this morning. How you even start to unravel the 3.30 is totally beyond me with the top FIVE in the betting all around 4/1- 5/1 and that is even after the defection of Whispering Spirit. Factor in the draw with which I can only but agree with Alan Thompson on the ATR site; "With the stalls on the far side today it's hard to be dogmatic about the draw, which is something of a concern given that the last four races are all sprints.." and do nothing seems a wise move. Frankie may already have taken the hint ! However, without any real confidence and just so a few random tips do appear today a few I've looked at but at present only Cheveton is threatening to be a challenge thread bet but even then I'm inclined to go ew and now I'm not sure, despite basically with no help from Frankie and less than no help from anyone else having set the "rules", whether you can have a nb bet without having a NAP ( which is what I really need right now!). Ayr 14:30 Oasis Storm 2 point win, 1 point place : Goldenveil is the obvious choice but with Oasis Storm being backed on debut I'm opting for that as Goldenveil doesn't appeal at around even money. Ayr 15:00 Frontline Girl : Trying hard to be my NAP but the consistent Glenlucci may scupper this one. Ayr 16:00 Forrest Flyer : Not really sure why I'm bothering in yet another trappy race but at least the draw should have no bearing ! Ayr 16:30 Cheveton ew : Noted above, given a good chance by the handicapper but another wide open race AND over the minimum trip. However, in stall 4 alongside Favourite Girl who has won 3 times this season ( 3 from last 4 and a 2nd in fact ) it could be worse ! Ayr 17:00 River Falcon ew : Yet another wide open race, a tentative selection at best. Bev 19:00 Autumn Harvest Ew : Yet another wide open race, Autumn Harvest ran well on debut and if building on that can at least make the frame. Wind 19:40 Addictive Dream : Progressive type who looks the pick but with Hannon running 3 and Channon having Hairspray I'm not going overboard especially being drawn in stall 1. Wind 20.10 : Pearl Huntsman ew : Trained by Jeremy Noseda this three year old colt was fourth on his debut at Newmarket over seven furlongs. The step up to a mile and two furlongs is somewhat of an unknown factor ( not really bred to stay) but connections are expecting Tom Queally to give this horse every chance so worth a punt at around 7/1. Wind 20:40 Our Drama Queen : Ok, the Hughes/Hannon combination makes this likely NAP material even if the aptly named My Best Bet is another lurking in the shadows to put the mockers on. Very best of luck to everyone in the tipping challenge. Chris

It's heart wrenching stuff:rolleyes: How many times in one day is it all right for a woman with three children under seven, a pregnant nanny, a diabetic Airedale, a husband who works full-time, and a staff of 30, to lose her temper? I pass double digits by lunchtime. Never heard of family planning ? Pregnant nanny ? Obviously hasn't learnt the lesson from you. Diabetic Airedale ? Poor dog, stupid cow Husband works full time ? Presumably if he didn't you'd be even more angry. 30 staff ? Diddums, it's your staff I feel sorry for. Stupid doesn't even come close in fact. -

From Cric Info:http://www.cricinfo.com/countycricket2010/content/current/player/351424.html Michael Bates is a highly-rated wicketkeeper-batsman who is expected to establish himself as Nic Pothas' understudy at Hampshire in 2010. Strong on the pull shot, and with Brendon McCullum as a role-model, he furthered his development during the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand in 2009-10. In 2006, he was awarded the Daily Telegraph Bunbury Scholarship. Cricinfo staff February 2010.

Well entry at Newbury was free so I'd imagine they would have got a fair few thousand for a good day out. As for Harness Racing hard to think of anything more boring !

Just a few very early thoughts on a couple of runners at Ayr on Monday. Although I havent given them a great deal of study you should keep an eye out for Cheveton and River Falcon who have both been dropped steadily down the weights this season. First Cheveton has been waiting for some ease in the going and hopefully he gets it now and the talented Andrew Heffernan takes off a further 3lb, he should go off at a decent price. Next up is River Falcon who has finally been dropped into a lower grade handicap, Class 4 and Paul Hanagan was booked a few days ago. He probably has been dropped far more than Cheveton and he should also be capable of going well at a big price. Im not saying both will win but they are lively outsiders that are capable of better than they have shown to date this season and both are worthy of ew support. Chris

In fairness I can see it I think from both the point of view of Ponty and Andy. Some of the comments are so stupid they are hard to ignore but equally hard to say "no you can't post that." I'm sure I know more about the benefits system than most on here though only having worked in various Government departments from 1980- 2006 and I can but laugh at some of the things people believe are true. As for Facebook not only is racism, homophobia, sexism, abusive and threatening behaviour rife on there but the moderation is pretty much non existent, instead FB choose to disable accounts if the user is seen as being "too active" which actually in most cases means you actually bother to reply to posts, leave messages for friends etc; In truth you might even believe FB are chosing to adopt an anti-Muslim slant given some of the things they actually do delete whilst not deleting far worse material. Of course you cannot compare the 400m + users on Facebook to the number on here but given the huge profit they make they really ought to make a far better job of controlling the site than they do. Fair to say this site in that respect is many times better albeit not perfect and never will be.

I did, clearly you didn't !!

Well I did manage a couple of nice winners, the trends threw up Latin Love which duly obliged nicely at 9/1 and Very Well Read just got his head in front to win at 8/1 whilst Indian Violet ran well and only beaten by the short priced favourite. Luisant got beaten by a head at 8/1 but at least returned place money. Of course none of these selections were included in the tipping challenge ! The meeting at Newton Abbot was actually very amusing, I could not have predicted Sassanian would jump so badly though McCoy did coax him into 2nd place before performing a minor miracle to get Classic Swain home in front in the 3.00. I would not have predicted either that with no selection of my own I would see Frankie's selection also have a bit of a nightmare in the 3.30. The 4.05 saw both my selections including Old Brigade which Frankie also backed pulled up. Both Bach Protector and Rocklandslad were very poor. However, the highlight of the day was surely Leitra House in the 4.35 at Newton Abbot where the horse or jockey or both decided ( with very good logic it must be said) that the best way to get to the finishing post ahead was not to jump any of the hurdles and indeed said horse "led" for quite a long way before one of them realised this was not quite within the rules:lol: Needless to say this was another Frankie selection, you really could not make it up:D Still there is always another day and who knows what delights Monday will bring ! To be fair it was a very good all round performance, excellent batting and fielding and all the bowlers chipping in with a wicket or two. We've heard before from Weston Saint how good Bates is and today he showed that. Though this season has clearly been disappointing with players like Vince, Dawson, Briggs, Bates and Wood coming through there is plenty to look ahead to. I think McKenzie was MOM today which was a fair shout though arguably our best all round team performance all season.
-
Well if pre season results are any kind of guide Sheffield Wednesday aren't exactly setting the world on fire having lost 2-1 at Grimsby today !
-
Dimi is definitely injured as is Kabir Ali. Lumb I'm not sure about but has been out of touch anyway. Simon Jones, as has been mentioned a few times, will hopefully play next season. I think it's fair to say money spent on overseas players has not really paid dividends, Herath, Razzaq and Christian. Interestingly both Jimmy Adams and Sean Ervine are amongst the 5 most valuable players in the 20/20 according to the official stats which might be a good lesson to learn. I think Hants can still qualify for the 20/20 quarter finals though they definitely need to best Sussex today and have made 195/5 in 20 overs, Ervine 32 off 12 balls, Adams 30 off 24 balls and McKenzie, who definitely is proving now to be a good signing, 64 off 49 balls.

Pure guess but maybe Sunday is limited to 3 main race meetings ? Therefore why not use the tracks for different purposes.
-
Analysis on a few : 3.05 - Curragh Emulous: Won a 28 race Maiden over seven furlongs in soft ground at this track last October on debut and reappeared on much faster ground over the same trip against her elders at Naas last month. She kept on on well with another three year old Filly and, although beaten just over a length, there was a four length break to the third who subsequently won a Fairyhouse Listed race. Emulous steps up in trip today but that maiden win as a Juvenile in testing conditions suggests she has her share of stamina and the easing of the ground conditions are likely to suit. Future Group 1 and 3 entries suggests she is well up to this class back against her own sex and she has the potential to improve past horses who may have posted better form to date. 3.40 - Curragh: Meeznah- Although it could be argued that Snow Fairy had a more troubled run when beating Meeznah in the Epsom Oaks, the way the latter was closing again at the line suggests she could exact her revenge if this race is a more truly run affair. That looks likely to be the case because the home contingents best chance is on the back of a proper gallop. Meeznah is bred to enjoy a stiffer test than she received at Epsom and there is enough in her breeding to suggest that the easing in ground conditions will not be a problem, even though connections have stated that she loves fast ground. She has improved significantly with each outing to date and there is the likelihood of better to come being by Dynaformer, whose progeny tend to improve with age. The yard have an excellent strike rate with their turf string and have formed a very good relationship with today's jockey. 4.20 - Redcar Peter Island -His mark is now six pounds higher than it was at the end of the last turf season and higher than he has ever won from in the past. Add to that the presence of other front runners and he looks one to avoid at first glance. However if his talented three pound claimer can get his fractions right he could go close. A fast six furlongs are his ideal conditions and the yard send just the one to a track they have only sent three previous entries since 2004 (all big outsiders). Peter Island has been running well this season, winning twice, and the majority of his opposition are not running at their peak at the current time. 4.50 - Redcar - Very Well Red Another who is yet to win from mark as high as he currently possesses but he is a strong travelling type who could get a softish lead in this race. He has been a bit disappointing in his last two outings but he invariably wins on the back of a poor effort. He is versatile regarding ground conditions and his yard have enlisted the use of a very good five pound claimer to relieve his burden somewhat. A winner of two of his five turf races this season, Very Well Red faces mainly out of form opposition and probably has Rascal In The Mix as his biggest danger. 5.20 - Redcar - Indian Violet - Still a maiden after 13 races and has only made the frame once. However he is often on the premises going into the latter stages before never seeming to go through with his effort. He is now well handicapped on the form he was showing for his former yard and it may be worth chancing that his attitude may be better in the first time cheekpieces. He didn't run badly for today's claimer in his penultimate race and his performance here over seven furlongs in a better race from an eleven pound higher mark in May would see him in with a shout if he stays this extra distance.

Must be him, played precisely no games for us !! He did play for Liverpool but joined us from Copenhagen and then when he was fit promptly fell out with Dave Jones at being understudy to Paul Jones, he then became our 3rd choice keeper !
-
He did Ok I thought in his 1st season, 9 goals in 28 games I think but thereafter only played a few games. Previously Man Utd were after him !
-
3 at least actually !! Old Brigade , Peter Island and Eladil though haven't a clue why you are backing the latter ! Tropical Batchelor I do fancy to break your tipping challenge duck, I put it up on TE. It's doomed Chris
-
Kevin Keegan - a success thereafter Ronnie Ekelund - 5 goals in 17 games for us but career stalled after that

Ok, two more poor doomed horses: Newton Abbot 5.05 Bach Proterctor NAP Curragh 4.15 Park Ranger nb -
BTW does anyone know why the meeting scheduled for Musselburgh isn't taking place ? Ah, answered my own question, HARNESS racing taking place !!
-
Of course, personally I would have taken Walcott but that apart Capello was hardly spoilt for choice TBH.
-
I have thought for a few years Hargreaves was a big loss for both Man U and England, I haven't changed my mind !
-
Thanks for emphasising that point, of course that is the case. My nephew sent two emails and received 2 thank you emails in reply both identical though that is entirely to be expected : Thank you for taking the time to send an email. I've forwarded it on and even if you don't get a reply, (a lot of the children are unable to reply), rest assured you made them smile
