Of course Le Tiss is in the team !! GK: Peter Shilton RB: Ivan Golac CB: Mark Wright CB: Michael Svensson LB: Wayne Bridge RM: Terry Paine CM: Alan Ball © CM: Matthew Le Tissier LM: David Armstrong RF: Mick Channon LF: Ron Davies Subs GK: Tim Flowers DF: Ken Monkou MF: Rod Wallace ST: Steve Moran UP: Nick Holmes The "B" team Manager: Ted Bates GK: Antti Niemi RB: Jason Dodd CB: Claus Lundekvam CB: Dave Watson LB: Mark Dennis RM: Danny Wallace CM: Steve Williams CM: Jimmy Case © LM: Chris Marsden RF: Kevin Keegan LF: Marian Pahars Subs GK: Kelvin Davis DF: Mick Mills MF: Ronnie Ekelund ST: Alan Shearer UP: Peter Osgood Clearly Ball, Paine and Armstrong are included in midfield but quite how Steve Williams gets relegated to the B team is yet another mystery though I wouldn't put Case quite into the same category. That said perhaps the most remarkable decision is the choice of managers, as much as I admire LM Ted Bates is the ONLY reasonable choice, without him Lawrie Mac would never have been in a position to achieve what he did and even after he took over in 1974 Ted was always there working behind the scenes in his usual, modest, unselfish way. Never mind revisit this thread, scrap it and start again:D I'm kidding Andy, I really am. I'm aware this whole prolonged debate turned you into the reclusive type you are today;)

Should never, ever have been employed by the BBC. A complete waste of our money, I can only imagine it's to try and make the pundits themselves seem good !

Mainly this.

Really you should try and not only get some perspective but look at the facts before attacking yet another very good England player. He scored 11 goals in 79 games for England, a fair enough return for a winger. He was also the player who very nearly got us back into the 1986 game v Argentina, setting up Lineker's goal and an almost identical chance he missed. After the goal v Brazil Barnes was abused by supporters on the plane back from South America; racists claimed that England had only won 1-0 against because Barnes' goal "didn't count". At club level he scored 65 goals for Watford in 235 games and in the process helped them to finish 2nd in Div 1 in 82/83 and the Cup Final the following year. In 1987 he joined Liverpool at the time when Dalglish was manager ( I reckon he knew an exceptional player when he saw one ): he scored 84 goals in 314 games and Liverpool cruised to the title in his first season, Barnes was outstanding, scoring 15 goals and 2nd only to John Aldridge. The following year Liverpool won the FA Cup but lost the league title in the final game v Arsenal at Anfield. A game few will forget as Arsenal scored at the death to win 2-0. In spite of his great performances he still received much racist abuse even from Liverpool fans but again as with England rose above it. 1989/90 saw Barnes score 22 goals as Liverpool once again won the League title. At the 1990 WC he was injured early on v Belgium having had a great goal disallowed ( wrongly) for offside. After 1990 Barnes was constantly plagued by injuries but continued to play well for Liverpool. One could argue that Barnes didn't quite reproduce his club form for England, that's debatable but in order to argue that point it simply isn't enough to use throw away remarks. For me Barnes was one of the best wingers I have seen, like Beckham was a great role model and a great supporter of many charities. Very far removed from many of the overpaid prima donas we have today.

+ 2. In many ways the forgotten man.

Hopeless is the word that springs immediately to mind Oops, could be RTM time !!! Seriously though I'd truly hate to moderate some of the very immoderate people on here, I'd just ban everyone

Why did the PL not use the new ball ? Because it had a contract with Nike and couldn't, how typical ! Then to make things worse back in the Spring the FA contrived to LOSE 25 of the new balls sent to them and never did have a clue where they went:rolleyes: Algeria were another country who used the new ball for months! Just a side note though, there were complaints ( as there seem to be at every WC) about the ball in 2006 most notably from Oliver Kahn who stated " The Teamgeist" ball (is) built in favour of the strikers." That ball was developed in Germany, it took 3 years, the Jabulani ball was tested extensively at Loughborough !
-
Yep, that is who we signed him from. He returned there for one season I think in 2007/8 ?

I wasn't at OT but vividly remember sitting at home watching the game, but 93rd minute I was no longer sitting but jumping across the room like a lunatic ! One of the great moments but of course more than the free kick Becks carried the whole team that day. A superb footballer and a genuinely decent, family guy. Deserves no criticism in my book.
-
Very simple, very fair point. It truly isn't that hard A_S .

Thanks, didn't realise you were on Virginia Hall as well, well backed and won well ! With Twice Over as well not bad for a Saturday, nice one in Sir Frank Wappat so not a bad day's work for an invalid who now can't even flipping well sleep and someone with barely the time to post his tips:D Keep being lucky! Chris

Definitely would have been treated as an ew double. This is usually the case with multiple bets though in something like the Scoop 6 or Placepots if you have a N/R it's replaced by the favourite, where there are joint favs, the lowest racecard number comes into effect. (ie. no.3.= 5/2jf & no.4 = 5/2jf, you'd be on horse no.3).
-
Based on the trends I mentioned above which tend to be very useful in these big races Twice Over was, as I stated, well in and duly obliged though managed to cause a few flutters idling close home. Mawatheeq decided not to run so got my money back but a rule 4 on Twice Over but I can live with that !

Rarely bet on football, almost never on long term markets where you either lose early or your money is tied up until the outcome in known. Had a few match bets as above purely for extra interest, otherwise the only thing I was sure of was that I didn't fancy France at all though the problems were there for all to see. Certainly would never have predicted all 4 semi-finalists, Spain and Holland yes, Germany maybe, Uruguay never ! Somewhat surprised Spain are actually favourites to beat Germany though not at all surprised you can get 11/2 on Uruguay to beat Holland in 90 minutes.
