  1. Happy days on the road watching CN's Saints. He had the impossible job of replacing Lawrie and didn't have the same funds to sign marquee players. He brough Shearer, MLT and Rod Wallace through the ranks and had us playing cracking stuff. I was at Selhurst when we beat Charlton 4-2, and I particularly remember playing away to Villa in Jan 1990. We were 4th going into that match & Villa were 2nd. Saints fans packed the North Stand + we had some of the wings, amazing atmosphere. When Glenn Cockerill equalised in front of us I cut my lip after a mass bundle.......great memories
  2. Steve Moran David Armstrong In the early 80's we played some amazing football, yet these two were seriously overlooked at International level. Had they played for bigger clubs they would have won 50 caps
  3. I'd be disgusted if a new sponsor had naming rights to the stadium It always feels as though the board have sold their soul when companies can get their name on the ground
  4. I'm quite shocked seeing that, I'd actually forgotten what a seriously crap team we had Even Surman & McGoldrick were pretty lightweight and haven't really done anything since leaving. This is the same team that Rupert was convinced would make it back to the PL, guided by our Dutch maestros
  5. I'm not surprised by his links to Crystal Palace I'm pretty sure he was born in Croydon, and as a kid was a big Palace fan
  6. Why are so many people convinced we made a mistake letting him go? He was pretty average & none of us ever saw him in training. AP and his staff obviously thought he was no good, and if he was any good, some clubs further up the ladder than Salisbury would have snapped up a free, talented youngster with league experience
  7. Brighton have already sold their 3200 tickets
  8. Brilliant program, both guys qre really talented I loved the Stephen Hawking section, had me in stitches
  9. Has anyone been watching 'The Trip' with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon? I've had some LOL moments on both episodes so far
  10. This series was really disappointing They made a mistake in writing Emily Atack out of the show Will's obsession with Charlotte 'big jugs' Hinchcliffe was one of the amusing themes of the show

  12. He's obviously a touchy fella Didn't Graham Turner once threaten court action against a Hereford United forum member?
  13. Emily Atack

On the subject of Wales, did anyone watch their match with Switzerland last night? Gareth Bale has possibly become the best left sided player in world football It's such a shame we couldn't have kept him for longer
  15. I think Shilton would have struggled in the modern game His biggest weakness was his kicking, and football's changed, this would have found him out
  16. Shilton should have dropped by England 5 years before he retired I blame him for Maradona's goal, he didn't have enough spring in his legs to reach the ball I also blame him for England's loss to Germany in 1990 - he backtracked like a cart horse when Brehme had his shot. He was then an embarrassment in the penalty shoot out - virtually all of their pens had hit the back of the net by the time he dived
  17. I think you'll find that Shilton needs the money His gambling was out of control when he was younger, and I know a couple of people on here have quoted the Ladbrokes story - When he was at Saints, the club settled his bill with a few local Ladbrokes shops in return for keeping it quiet from the media
  18. Football grounds are the perfect target for them Hundreds/thousands people standing outside a ground are sitting ducks
  19. I was disappointed with it I've got the film on DVD, I loved it, but the series seemed to lose it's way towards the end
  20. Why the heck would it kick off in Totton? I'm not disputing you're right, I just have no idea why a number of Cherries fans would end up in Totton
  21. I agree completely I've always maintained that there's too many categories on here - Either a subject is Saints related or not Just merge all the pointless forums like 'The Arts' and 'The Lounge' into a central banter forum & some life and humour will probably return
  22. Unfortunately, banning Guided Missile is a perfect example of how things have gone downhill I know another poster who made a perfectly innocent comment about the stabbing of Calum Davenport He got banned for being racist This board has lost it's humour I'm afraid, it's just become far too serious
  23. I agree totally The old days of S4E had some brilliant, hilarious threads that would never get past 2 or 3 posts these days The infraction system has made this board far too serious, but I don't blame the owners of this site for doing this The internet is no longer a place where you can avoid legal action, and Steve/Baj are probably more worried about certain material than Keith was 5 or 6 years ago
  24. I've dealt with them through work Barry Champion was the founder, but they have grown into a very large company now called 'The Champion Group' They are still based in Basingstoke - Roentgen Road, Daneshill
  25. I think it's easy for Cortese to say things like that, he has only had involvement with Saints for 15 months The rest of us have had our hearts in the club since we could walk 7 years ago we were 8th in PL and in the FA Cup Final - our demise has been pretty spectacular & who can blame fans for getting disillusioned when we seem to turn a corner, but then go backwards This is my gripe with Cortese, and it's the reason why comparisons with him and Rupert are valid - neither of them understands the mentality of being a football supporter
