Give Valery a break. He’s clearly not the finished article but his progress this season has been one of the highlights of the season for me. I’m sure his game will continue to develop, we’ve seen he can defend and attack just not in the same game, it will come.

He was injured towards the end of last season and lost his place in the England just at the wrong time. Do I think Southgate was correct in picking Young ahead of Ryan? Absolutely not. Is Ryan a better left back than Young? in every sense, yes.
