The late Steven Wells had a lot of interesting things to say about the two football codes and the American psyche. http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2008/jan/17/thetruththesoccerphobesref

Y'all. Y'all. If you're going to make excrutiating use of someone else's slang, at least get it right.

Using the example of 'definite', I know how to spell it because I think about where the word came from and what it means, what 'finite' means, how the word is made up. For a lot of people, particularly those who take the meaning of words more completely from usage, spelling is much more a matter of just remembering the order of the letters that have been chosen to represent that word. To a large extent for them each word stands alone as an arbitrary spelling, rather than a sensible (if complicated) set of rules and roots. I would say that this isn't a measure of intelligence but a gauge of how a person understands the workings and function of language.

I'm with Ponty on this. But I'd like to see a fight, if there's one in the offing..?

You're obviously not a golf fan.

It comes across in every post.

It's just courtesy really, particularly punctuation, which is there to help people take meaning from what would otherwise be a string of words.

NTKM should be on here more. He went and got himself a family and a life and all that stupid stuff.

You've always got the option to not respond.

Could you two just stop now? You're both being extremely silly.

Word.

Might as well aim for the stars though, rather than have some dullard school him in Jeff Beck. Go for it, TDD! If you can make it sound like a steam locomotive crashing into a cathedral, you've won.

Just buy a cheap one and see what sounds it makes when you mess around with it. Lessons are for chumps.

When I got my first one it was about '98 and there was still a slightly unacceptible whiff of 'yuppie' about them. Some of my mates took the ****.

Well, only to the same degree that Southampton has something to do with Bristol. I suppose they're both 'up north'.

I still haven't got over what a fantastic invention they are. When I was a kid I used to have these crazy notions about a device you could carry around with you and talk to anyone you wanted. They're still pretty ****ing sci-fi IMO.

 What's Leeds got to do with Boro?

What kind of food was it?

No! Daughter of Peter Powell too...

It's possible you've just solved my dilemma...

I'd go for Mussolini, with Franco on bass, Mosley on rhythm and Adolf on the traps. Not sure who would be frontman material. Flamboyance wasn't really their thing.
