Interesting thread and I get a name check! Thanks, DP. For those that don't know, I control all forms of life from my lair in the Deep South. On a serious note, coming to live in the US introduced me to a whole new interpretation of religion. Some good, some bad. As LV mentioned, we have a candidate for VP that wants to introduce creationism in schools, all well and good if taught as what some people believe. Here in Georgia, people want it be taught to the exclusion of evolution. We have a governor who seems to equate the buying of alcohol on a Sunday with the end of the world. That being said, my children know more about Kwanzaa and Hannukah (sp?) and other festivals than Christmas given what they are taught in school. There should be more understanding and acceptance of everyone's beliefs, no one should ram their views down anyone else's throats. I have only made one trip to the Middle East, to Saudi Arabia 15 years ago. It really drove me crazy that they expected everyone to conform to their beliefs and suppressed others but, when they visit other countries, they expect us to bend to their requirements. Then again, the US is full of religious bigots! At least I can tune them out here or laugh at them!

There was an article yesterday on the Telegraph's website (can't find it now to post a link) about ESPN being interested in Premier League rights in UK and US. Maybe they will invest in Setanta as was rumoured a year or two ago.

Figured I would get a response from you! People have been predicting the collapse of football for many years, somehow it pulls out of every crisis. Back in the Eighties, clubs like Wolves and Bristol City fell through the divisions, almost went out of business but survived. There was the ITV Digital crisis - clubs survived, some in better shape than others. It certainly looks like another crisis will happen, with the escalating costs of watching, the crazy fees being paid but somehow the game survives. Regarding Setanta and Steve Grant's comment that their operations in other countries will help them survive. The Irish market is fairly small. I don't know how many people watch the US channel. I pay $15 a month and get international and club rugby from around the world, Premier League, Champions League, Championship games, even the occasional League 1 game. They also show Aussie Rules. Basically their market is expat Brits, Aussies and Kiwis. There was a rumour that ESPN would buy them. Haven't heard anything about that in a while.

Someone bought the shares hoping that it would generate more traffic on this site. People have been complaining how quiet it has been, now there is something to speculate about.

But we need them stateside as Setanta USA broadcasts the CCC. Only way we get to see Saints play.

Only 8 weeks to go. If you think you have heard too much over there, imagine what it has been like here and will be for the next 2 months. This is my first chance to vote for president. Not inspiring choices. McCain too old, too much like Bush in approach to world, picked a very right wing running mate (or so she has been portrayed so far). Obama - inexperienced but will attempt to rebuild US relationship with rest of the world. It will be close but I think Obama will win. McCain needs to change the perception of Palin if he is to win the "soccer mom" vote. Most of them are socially liberal, fiscally conservative - not NRA loving, anti-abortion, etc.

Stuck in a meeting at work so couldn't listen but great result. Looks like it was a great performance from everything written here. Can't wait for the Blackpool game - being shown live over here.

Well, that is interesting because, as you say, you have generally been sceptical (sounds better than cynical!). But, unless they have suddenly located the missing treasure, can they truly make things better than they are now?

I think you can safely take a couple of months holiday and nothing will have happened, well, maybe someone else will have your job. If you hear MB's laugh echoing around the world, you can cut short your holiday and rush to the nearest computer.
