And 50 years ago we beat N.Forest 5-0 at White Hart Lane - I saw both. Gees what are we going to see this week end? - I reckon JRod to do something memorable.
-
Games at Reading, Sunderland and Tottenham will be against teams fired up to beat us for their own different reasons, our away form is not that great so we are well capable of losing those games. Swansea have nothing to play for but never the less are a very capable team so it's possible we won't get many more away points. If we don't beat West Ham and WBA that leaves us needing to beat Stoke on the last day and anything could happen. This may be a very pessimistic analysis but this is football and stranger things have happened (see 1948/9). We are currently in a good position but we are by no means safe.

Why is hating pompey seen as a bad thing on this forum?
Tom & Gerry replied to Tom8558's topic in The Saints
Sadly some parts of their town have quite a lot going for it, but perhaps you don't get out much -
He was very poor but he's not usually that bad. In fact he was quite good in his previous couple of sub appearances, and I do believe he does try. You could see that from one tackle he jumped in to in the Chapel/ Itchen corner - it was ineffective but the effort was there.

In the cold light of day we still need to get above some higher placed teams as I can't see either Wigan or Villa going down on current form, 40 points minimum.
-
The best crop of youngsters we've had since Shearer. Matty, Rod Wallace, Benali and Dodd ( today's full backs are going to be better of course) and today reminded me of when they beat Liverpool in their pomp 4-1. When JRod scored it was like when Channon scored 2 against Everton and it opened people's eyes that hey he is a good player after all.

No just more people who couldn't organise anything in a brewery

This is ridiculous. This is the Easter week end FFS, most people will have made plans around the game. If Chelsea can't fulfill the fixture they should forfit the game.
-
When we are the new Barcelona winning Champions League after Champions League of course we will need a 58k stadium. Some of you are very slow to get up to speed with the vision.

I'm a fan, I'd never bet against Saints What were the odds when Lowe appointed the Dutch duo ? yet any experienced Saints fan knew what the outcome would be.

A tyrant thinks he is invincible and always ends up making reckless decisions. Sacking NA means we are virtually certain to be relegated.

From what I've seen and after all I've read on here I don't think there is a cigarette paper between all 3. Gazza has potential and is seen as the future at the club but isn't there yet. Kelvin has been great but is struggling to cope at this level and there is a difference between the premier league and other leagues. Even in the much quoted game against Leeds Kelvin made mistakes which would have been punished in the Prem. Boruc is potentially good but didn't give any cause for confidence until the second half on Tuesday so the jury is still out. I suggest we get behind whoever is given the shirt and if he's not your particular favourite don't knock him too much because he isn't that much better or worse than your choice.
-
Even Hart is making mistakes, we are not going to find an error free keeper with this ball. Kelvin has looked better since he's been back but hasn't really been tested and should have done better with the Fulham goal. If a really top keeper becomes available (unlikely) go for him and ditch Boruc otherwise it's whoever's in until they make too many mistakes

Just as people are entitled to have favorite players they are also entitled to have players they do not rate, and when things were going badly we needed a scapegoat. Now things are going a little better can you not boo Pleease? Thank you

It's 1960 and 3rd Division Saints are 2-1 up away at half time to 1st Division Man City in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. I'm sitting watching Grandstand with great anticipation for the teleprinter to give out the final score..Man City 1 Southampton 5 ...Unbelievable.

The Saints matchday experience now compared to 1962
Tom & Gerry replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
In 1962 there was no segregation and very little trouble. Can't even begin to imagine that being possible today. -
Used to love the FA Cup but I'm not paying 30 quid for a reserve game.
-
I don't think some of you are taking in to account the ball that is being used this season. No keeper is confident catching the ball, few are coming for crosses and there have been numerous horrendous errors at other clubs other than Southampton.
-
We can all say which keeper we prefer but let's face it all of them are struggling at this level. Dave Merrington was saying we should go for an experienced goalkeeper at Anfield but the only experience Davis has in this league is bad experience and Boruc has no experience - Scottish and Italian football are no comparison for a keeper. Up till now I've backed Gazza but the only defence I've got for him now is that he only makes 1 howler a game the others make more, and that's not a great defence. Good luck Nigel.
-
That was the worst I've seen Gazza play, maybe as a result of the mistake against Swansea. Davis deserved his chance but didn't take it. Boruc's fitness and head didn't seem right. On that basis I would stick with Gazza for now on the basis you don't change a winning team and we've chopped and changed too much already. Lets hope Gazza gets his confidence back - otherwise it's whoever looks best in training as I'm sure both are capable of better than they have shown so far.
-
I don't think we will ever find a keeper that doesn't let in goals.
-
Goalkeeper is the one position that you have to pick on form. Past reputation counts for nothing, some keepers lose form and never get it back. Boruc and Davis have both looked fallible and Boruc has demonstrated a very poor temperament. Gazza has looked by far the most assured and despite being slaughtered for his 1 error on Saturday (which admitedly did cost us 2 points) his distribution is about 50% better than Davis. I vote to save Gazza.

I know twisting things to make dramatic headlines is what papers do but it doesn't make it right. Yesterday the headline was along the lines of "Adkins says he doesn't know how long he's got" You'd be hard pressed to find any manager who knows how long he's got.
