  1. Probably not, who remembers? So you have to ask yourself what is it about this regime that makes some people feel so manipulated and alienated.
  2. It's not just the kit though is it. Yes we've changed kit quite a few times before and we've accepted it (some times reluctantly) and no we've never had any say in the matter any way, but now for some perhaps many of us there is a feeling of alienation. There is no explanation and this is how it is and your opinion unless positive is not welcome. It's my club and I'll do what I want. We know that the present regime are single minded and ruthless in their pursuit of success for this club and maybe that is the only way it can be achieved. Perhaps in 10 years time we will look back and say thank goodness for Cortese - where would we be now without him, but I sense already that the higher we go the harder this success is going to be to achieve. There has been a lot of hype about a top 10 finish this season but unless we can attract high quality players that fit in to our system (and we may do) then the season will be just as much a struggle as the last. There is no guarantee that the Cortese way will be any more successful than any other. If that happens will we be as happy as some appear to be at the way the club is run?
  3. Now I've chilled out can I just say if you don't like this shirt don't buy it. It doesn't make you a bad person or a bad supporter. I was looking at a video of Pompey v Saints from 1987 the other day. Not one Saints supporter in a Saints shirt. It's a fairly new phenomenom. It doesn't have to be this way.
  4. Suppose we can't increase the the size of the stadium because of the traffic? What if there isn't a suitable site in Southampton ? What if there isn't a suitable site in Hampshire ? What if there isn't a suitable site within a 100miles. What affinity do we have with Southampton? We don't support the local paper Some of our past players are given little respect We've kicked out the old programme seller without putting anything else in his place. We don't get on with the cricket club We don't even play in red & white stripes ffs Lets move to Bristol or South London or Kent
  5. Ever since we were formed Southampton have had ambitions of being a top team. They came close at the turn of the 19th/ 20th century and again in the 1980's. As a one off in a good year a top 4 finish is just about credible but to be there consistantly - well maybe some time in the next 100 years.
  6. There is an obvious case for an Arsenal victory against Wigan but you can't take Wigan's last game in isolation. Many have predicted Saints demise in the past on that basis and come unstuck. You have to look at their away form generally and what they are capable of and what they will do when their backs are against the wall. Also Arsenal can get nervous in front of their own fans when a victory is needed. Bookmakers don't just make money from mug bets they make it from favourites getting beat as well.Saints just win at Sunderland and then we can all shut up.
  7. I remember running round the track about that time with a banner (as you did in those days)and the banner being completely destroyed by the track grit. You could feel the hatred and for the first time I realized this was more than banter. Then there was the game down there in 1964 which we won 3-0. Every time Saints scored kids would run on to the pitch from the Fratton end , there was no segregation. By the time the 3rd goal had gone in the Pompey kids had had enough and there were scraps on the pitch with the players trying to break it up. It progressed from there really. It it was just they couldn't take our new dominance.
  8. It really all comes down to how Wigan get on at Arsenal doesn't it ? The difference between the confident and the pessimists all comes down to that one result. You might think Wigan are unlikely to win at Arsenal but no one can say they are not capable of it. Remember how they tore Everton apart in the cup and how they outplayed us at St Marys. I thought we were certain to go down and still think the Managerial change was a reckless gamble that may only just come off. Not because the new Manager isn't good, I hadn't reckoned on us beating Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool (who had?) but because of the timing when he had no experience of a Premier league relegation battle and our recent results bear that out.
  9. And 50 years ago we beat N.Forest 5-0 at White Hart Lane - I saw both. Gees what are we going to see this week end? - I reckon JRod to do something memorable.
  10. Games at Reading, Sunderland and Tottenham will be against teams fired up to beat us for their own different reasons, our away form is not that great so we are well capable of losing those games. Swansea have nothing to play for but never the less are a very capable team so it's possible we won't get many more away points. If we don't beat West Ham and WBA that leaves us needing to beat Stoke on the last day and anything could happen. This may be a very pessimistic analysis but this is football and stranger things have happened (see 1948/9). We are currently in a good position but we are by no means safe.
  11. Sadly some parts of their town have quite a lot going for it, but perhaps you don't get out much
  12. He was very poor but he's not usually that bad. In fact he was quite good in his previous couple of sub appearances, and I do believe he does try. You could see that from one tackle he jumped in to in the Chapel/ Itchen corner - it was ineffective but the effort was there.
  13. In the cold light of day we still need to get above some higher placed teams as I can't see either Wigan or Villa going down on current form, 40 points minimum.
  14. The best crop of youngsters we've had since Shearer. Matty, Rod Wallace, Benali and Dodd ( today's full backs are going to be better of course) and today reminded me of when they beat Liverpool in their pomp 4-1. When JRod scored it was like when Channon scored 2 against Everton and it opened people's eyes that hey he is a good player after all.
  15. No just more people who couldn't organise anything in a brewery
  16. This is ridiculous. This is the Easter week end FFS, most people will have made plans around the game. If Chelsea can't fulfill the fixture they should forfit the game.
  17. When we are the new Barcelona winning Champions League after Champions League of course we will need a 58k stadium. Some of you are very slow to get up to speed with the vision.
  18. I'm a fan, I'd never bet against Saints What were the odds when Lowe appointed the Dutch duo ? yet any experienced Saints fan knew what the outcome would be.
  19. A tyrant thinks he is invincible and always ends up making reckless decisions. Sacking NA means we are virtually certain to be relegated.
  20. From what I've seen and after all I've read on here I don't think there is a cigarette paper between all 3. Gazza has potential and is seen as the future at the club but isn't there yet. Kelvin has been great but is struggling to cope at this level and there is a difference between the premier league and other leagues. Even in the much quoted game against Leeds Kelvin made mistakes which would have been punished in the Prem. Boruc is potentially good but didn't give any cause for confidence until the second half on Tuesday so the jury is still out. I suggest we get behind whoever is given the shirt and if he's not your particular favourite don't knock him too much because he isn't that much better or worse than your choice.
  21. Even Hart is making mistakes, we are not going to find an error free keeper with this ball. Kelvin has looked better since he's been back but hasn't really been tested and should have done better with the Fulham goal. If a really top keeper becomes available (unlikely) go for him and ditch Boruc otherwise it's whoever's in until they make too many mistakes
  22. Just as people are entitled to have favorite players they are also entitled to have players they do not rate, and when things were going badly we needed a scapegoat. Now things are going a little better can you not boo Pleease? Thank you
