The August Club Statement quoted above suggests they didn't think he would be out injured for long. Maybe they thought they needed to get in a bit more cover for the midfield positions before the Summer transfer window closed.
On the other hand, our addiction to signing injured players makes me wonder if we have some sort of deal with a local convalescent home...
Playing devil's advocate here, but it seems to me that Pulis's record is not so different to how Gillet's was at the start of the season. I think Gillet is a useful squad player, and as far as I know is not related to any of the management team, so why does everyone think there is something wrong or suspicious about Pulis's signing?
Don't have any statistics on it, but from (admitted dodgy) memory, it usually seems to be the case that when the reserves are top of the table, the first team are shyte. They always seemed to be winning the reserve leagues back in the Branfoot era.
That line is a little harsh. Davies's 'reputation' was established during a very successful loan spell, plus (unlike Euell) was young and likely to hold his value. If we had failed to sign him after the nightmares we had had at centre half prior to his arrival, the forum would have gone into meltdown.
When Davies goes, I really really really hope we get a replacement. There've been too many centre back crises over the past few seasons for my liking.
Is Alan Bennett still available?
...except that Davies is injured, Perry is 36, Wotton and Schneiderlin are both midfielders, Lancashire has never played a first team game, and everyone takes a big gulp of air whenever Killer goes for a tackle.
