I think this would always be the case. The record is £50m isn't it?
I saw Maguire was linked to Everton/Spurs yesterday for £22m (& he only has a year left on his contract!)
I think we should hold out for £60m the way this window is going.
If he's going to go, I sincerely hope it's to a team that pays silly money. I don't really want another slow drip-feed process of Liverpool bidding low, then re-bidding a tiny bit higher etc.
You know the drill.
SSN: Man City are in advance talks to sign Benfica goalkeeper Ederson on a deal worth in the region of £45m.
(If City do want Virgil, they aren't going to f*ck around with low bids with how pro-active they have been so far!)
SSN: WEST HAM BID FOR IHEANACHO
West Ham have made an offer for Man City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, according to Sky sources.
Man City value him at £20m with several other Premier League clubs also interested.

The remarkable thing about the Caceres signing was that a 60+ cap, ex-Barca & Juventus player lost out on a starting place to an academy player* in Stephens.
* yes, I know he was really a Plymouth academy player.
This is how we generate ££ for signings though. I'm not sure we sign players without selling.
I'm fine with it, but we just look like plebs every summer saying we won't sell
