  1. I read many of his history and war gaming books in my youth never even new he had an association with saints. RIP
  2. All the cutting edge in the world wouldn't have scored with the **** poor service from the rest of the team. Either long punts to no-one in particular or 2 yard passes straight to a yellow shirt. Rickie worked his nuts off and did well enough in the 1st half in the second half he looked knackered and hardly got a decent ball played to him. He did well to flick on for Lampard's header given he was being wrestled by the opposition defender.
  3. Roy saying all the right things here for me http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24026289 Looks like he rates Rickie quite highly as a useful part of the squad.
  4. Rickie was class, Ok the opposition was carp (though they've managed draws against Ukraine and Poland:scared:), but he really couldn't have done much more in an England shirt than he has done. I really thought England looked much better with Lambert playing up front than with Rooney in the team. Just goes to show pace isn't the be all and end all of football being able to use your brain and show awareness can be just as useful as running very fast.
  5. Wayne Thomas the guy was just a thug pretending to be a footballer. Scored one wonder goal against Ipswich in the FA cup other than that just kicked people up in the air, he was a nasty bastard, but he was entertaining to watch. He now plays for Tamworth FC............
  6. Surely the best window would be one were the players signed achieved the most for the club so i'd go for the first one under NC were we signed Lambert and Hammond not the best players we ever signed but certainly instrumental in getting us were we are now. Unfair to judge the new signings on that though as we have far less to achieve now. Just IMO like.
  7. Roy, like all managers, needs a plan B. I can't see Lambert as a starter for England but as an option off the bench that provides something different he surely should be in the team....who knows maybe his enthusiasm will rub off on the rest of the squad so that they might, at least, look like playing for England actually matters to them.
  8. It was like a Roy of Rovers story. I've never enjoyed and England goal so much the guy is just a legend give him the service and he will score.
  9. When we got back to the PL was the moment for me. Stopped my ST and went to four games last season (one which was Wednesday in the cup and one of which was free on a mates ST ) can't justify the cost anymore.
  10. In his day? he's only 26 not quite past yet. Pretty sure he could do better than Bournemouth.
  11. We did last season with Gaston and Jrod both were record signings and neither were automatic names on the team sheet a players cost should not be a criteria to judge team selection on.
  12. OK this looks familar Harry suddendly wants to leave unless he can buy loads of new players QPR manager Harry Redknapp has warned he will consider leaving the relegated club if he is not allowed to overhaul his squad this summer. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22595431
  13. I see Rickie end up joint top English scorer along with Lampard (and 7th top scorer) in the PL scoring as many goals as Berbetov and Demba ba...and people still don't think he is up to it? I can't see any of the 6 players who scored more than Lambert coming to saints. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/top-scorers
  14. I see from the BCC rickie has a back injury Southampton's Rickie Lambert (back) and Luke Shaw (virus) will be assessed ahead of the game. I don't know if it's true but I was told this morning he has been suffering from back problems for several weeks might explain his (alleged) dip in form....
  15. Yeah but the fans don't leave (well some of them probably will)....... thing is don't we all support SFC the club. Owners, chairmen, managers and players come and go. SFC is the supporters. I mean no matter what league, what players, what owner I'll still go and watch saints when I can afford to. I must be getting old becuase I'm really not that worried about this. It's not exactly going back to square one there will still be a club (in the PL if such things are important to you) to go and watch on a saturday next season and that's all that matters to me.
  16. Looks all set for 'Arry to return to his "spirtual home" while dropping QPR like a hot brick:lol:
  17. I'll be totally on my own here but after the last few seasons this one has been pretty dull IMO. There has been some good games (and some not so good games) and having given up my ST at the end of last season I haven't been to as many games as usual, which has probably impacted on my view of this season, but when I have gone SMS has been totally lacking in atmosphere at all it might be a fuller stadium this season but I'm not sure that's made for a better atmosphere. The cups were a bust this year (I'll admit I'd swap with Wigan in a heartbeat ....I'd love to win the FA cup again) which didn't help either. I've still wanted the team to do well but really couldn't get that upset about the possibility of being relegated. Best bits for me were Clyne and Shaw (both have been great this season) and beating Man city and Liverpool.......worst bits were Nige being sacked (even though I figured he wouldn't last the season and expected him to get fired early on when he wasn't I thought NC would stick with him) and losing so often at the start of the season (oh and having to sit through the QPR game at SMS). Still we're in the "Best league in world" for another season and I fancy us to be more of a Swansea than a Norwich ( or god forbid QPR) next season so roll on August.
  18. Signed. Coventry city fans don't deserve this crap.
  19. F ucking hell Lambert is one of the best players we've had in years yet every season when he goes through a bit of a dry patch (as most strikers do) we get the same old s hit about him not being up to it or lacking pace. The guy is still our top scorer (top scoring Englishman in the PL even) and he must be pretty high up there in the assits deperatment to. Almost all our best attacking football involves Rickie at some point. As for all this we need a top striker crap we're saints for ****s sake who exactly do people think were are going to sign RVP? take a look at the PL top scorers table which players above Lambert do you think would sign for saints? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/top-scorers Benteke is the only one even slightly in our ranage and he is pretty much likely to move to one of the big clubs IMO.
  20. Michail Antonio.....raw and pacy but not exactly silky skilled scored a peach of a goal against Bristol Rovers in the cup..... only played one season yet was quite popular by the time he left I still keep an eye out on how he is doing at Sheff Wednesday (thier top scorer this season apparently) even now.
  21. Fair Oak is nice decent facilites in the form of shops and a regular (every 20 miniutes) bus route that runs from Southampton to Fair Oak allowing you to get ****ed on matchdays and not worry about expensive taxis home.
  22. Well I gave mine and the kids STs up as to expensive this season so I doubt I 'll be getting one next season....
  23. God I miss the good old days already nothing like unearthing a lower league gem who is massively grateful to the club for less than a million, or being at SMS were 20,000 fans are there for saints rather than to see another PL side no tele ****ing up the traditional 3.00 sat kick off..................... whats not to like
  24. I wouldn't be bothered there are thousands of fans across the country who quite happily enjoy supporting a team not in the PL and the last few years have shown me there is footballing life outside the PL which is fun and enjoyable (and certainaly more affordable). I haven't enjoyed this season much at all the journey to the PL is far more enjoyable than actually being in the PL.
  25. Vincent kompany looks set to miss City's game with us through injury and amazingly city are struggling with a lack of centre backs at the moment:scared: Javi Garcia had to fill in at centre-back againt QPR....might give Rickie a bit of an easier time http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21295478
