Mauricio Pochettino staying as Southampton manager - Official
doddisalegend replied to Ashley Grute's topic in The Saints
I have to say the players don't seem all that bothered if yesterdays training session photos are anything to go by. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/gallery-business-as-usual-1299182.aspx Maybe MPs and the players loyalty to NC was quite as all encompassing as the media would like us to think. -
I love the fact that with no real details on what will happen in the future this board is full of "facts" about the club being asset stripped and sold, the manager leaving and all round doom and gloom maybe we should all take a deep breath and see what happens over the next few weeks before we all melt down.
-
Agree with the OP. The people who are taking this badly are the same people who really bought into the whole fantasy of saints playing in a packed state of the art 60K stadium while dominating the CL and PL. Saints are still here and that's all that matters really.
-
So I guess NC pushed to far and the owner pushed back. To be fair saints is bigger than any one man NC has done a lot for the club, no doubt, but we will survive him leaving (and the same goes for the manager and players) the owners are the important thing here after all it's their money (not NCs) that got us here and even if the do sell us we must be an attractive club to buy (not to mention worth a bit which should keep the potless types away).

I haven't seen much evidence that Osvaldo can hold the ball up or bring others into play like Lambert does (who incidentally plays plenty of forward balls that if Gaston had played them people would be raving about...) I think Osvaldo would be better of used like Jrod rather than being a replacement for Lambert.
-
If Gaston had been on for the whole game today we would have conceded he offers nothing when we don't have the ball, he just doesn't seem to be able to close down or tackle effectively, a problem in the system we use. He is at best a late game impact sub. He was terrible against Burnley and we only improved once he left the pitch and Adam came on. When you look at the options I just don't think it's worth dropping Adam, Jrod or Davis for Gaston. We do lack creative players but as Adam has showed you can be creative and good with the ball at your feet and hard working without the ball to.

Internet porn was invented for people like that. Careers are hard to build net porn is easy to find............

Is Wotton retired now? I know he went back to Plymouth after some time at Yeovil (?). Not exactly a skilful player but I always have a soft spot for limited but hardworking players always enjoyed watching him put in a shift for us.

Biggest Saints goal of the last 4 years....
doddisalegend replied to modern matron's topic in The Saints
Papa Wagio against Norwich in the JPT dying seconds of the game. -
Interview with him in today's match programme. I don't think he enjoyed playing second fiddle to Jrod and Austin last couple of seasons seems to be enjoying being first choice striker (with a good chance of PL football next season)so I don't think he'd move to be down the pecking order at saints. Come across as a big saints fan though. Surprised how many Hampshire boys were in the Burnley team seems like Eddie how took half of the South coast to Burnley when he moved there.

Well I really enjoyed that 20 quid well spent. I thought the atmosphere was quite good considering the low crowd numbers good banter between the Kingsland north and the Burnley fans. A good example of a cup game IMO. We need better back up at CB ASAP Laurel and Hardy at the back were truly shocking. Gaston needs to take a hike truly dire...why people think he is the answer to our attacking problems I really don't know we looked a hundred times better when Adam came on. Lambert pulled up quite early in the game carried on for a while (even scored) but you could tell he was struggling. Kelvin pulled off a couple of good saves but then made a couple of howlers better than Gazza but we need Boruc back. Clyne MOM for me best player on the pitch first half and scored a absolute beauty of a goal to.
-
I'm going tomorrow love the Cup nice change of pace to the PL. Is there really only 16K going tomorrow?
-
How many own goals has Jos scored over the last two seasons? We scored two goals yesterday (Rickie scoring one and starting the move that lead to the other) and with our first choice defence that would have been enough to win that game. Jos (not to mention Gazza and Fox) is a liability. Despite the now, highly fashionable, constant Lambert bashing on here. Rickie has probably done more than another player to get us where we are now if he wants to have a diva moment he can ****ing have one. As far as I'm concerned he has earned the right.
-
Huh? I bounced it I barely post on here these days so I'm not really sure how the first line applies. As I said at the start of this topic injuries would screw us. I genuinely think our first choice 11 are capable of giving anyone in this league a good game and win but our back ups (Cork apart) aren't really up to it IMO. I was just interested to know if MLG still thinks we are one of the top seven sides in the league. I could understand people feeling that way early on but are people still feeling that now?

....in the world of European football. Wonder if it would be a good or bad thing for Saints? (assuming it happens of course) World players' union Fifpro claims the existing transfer system contravenes law and infringes footballers' rights and it is preparing to challenge the system in the European courts. Football faces a legal challenge that could result in the end of transfer fees and have as big an impact on the game as the landmark Bosman ruling. In theory, that would mean a player would be able to tell his club he wanted to leave and hand in his notice. Another club could then pay up the remainder of the player's contract and he would be able to join them without a transfer fee being paid. full article here http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25418135

why does Osvaldo not turn up for 90% of most games?
doddisalegend replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
I get the whole loan thing but as he has scored more goals in the last two seasons than the rest of Chelsea's strikers put together they can't rate him that highly to farm him out on loan again. I really can't understand why Chelsea wouldn't want him leading the line instead of Torres or Ba this season. To buy maybe but clearly he was available on loan or he wouldn't be at Everton right now. I realize that loans probably don't fit with the Don's master plan but just imagine were we would be with Lukakus goals up front this season. Plus we'd have had a whole season to tap him up to try and get something more permanent:). -

So far 1 (very) impressive goal is all I've seen form Osvaldo sure there's a bit of skill there but as Shearer said on MOTD the other day football is 10% talent and 90% hard work. Can't help thinking we missed a trick not trying to sign Lukaku in the summer seeing as Chelsea clearly don't rate him. -
A sad indictment of the modern Saints fan?
doddisalegend replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
Well you can blame football for being to ****ing expensive. In the lower leagues I had an ST and so did both my kids as soon as we got to the PL the cost shot up. Now I do maybe 3-4 games a season and those are mostly Cat C or cup games. I don't use streams either just listen to the games on Radio Solent (can't beat a bit of whispering Dave). I went to the youth game the other night £7 for me and the nipper. Good game of football and despite SMS being only 10% full more atmosphere than most PL games I go to (granted it being Pompey probably had something to do with that). But I had a really enjoyable night best footie related entertainment I've had in the last couple of seasons. The truth is (and I expect I'm not the only one) that although the cost of footie has gone up as we've gone up the leagues my match day experience hasn't increased as much. I just don't see the point in paying more but not enjoying it anymore than I did down in league 1. -
Didn't think he was the best saints player on the pitch last night certainly had something about him (he did score a hatrick after all) but couldn't imagine him making much impact in a PL game at the moment. Josh Sims was the attacking player that really stood out for me last night some great ball skills and real pace. Also liked the look of the CB (no.6?) who looked really good to.
-
Just got back (joys of using a bus) that Josh Sims is a fantastic little player great ball skills and speed always looked a threat on the attack. Our No.6 was also excellent at the back really calm and composed and Sam Gallagher up the front is a unit with a bit of SRL about him. Some really good football on display from the saints boys you could see they were trying to play just like the first time closing down, working hard and attacking with some flair. Totally out classed the lot from down the road. Great atmosphere as well for 2,000 fans there was more noise than some PL games I've been to the last couple of seasons pretty much non stop singing. Have to say that was the best £7.00 I've spent in some time.

Post Match Reaction: SAINTS 2-3 Aston Villa
doddisalegend replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Easy to start blaming Yoshida and Cork but the two of them have played practically no PL football this season players can't not play for months and then just come on and be brilliant. Cork was class last season but has no match sharpness. Injuries, sicknes and changes are ****ing up our once water tight defence I mean Gazza and some kid as our only goal keepers for gods sake. As for Villa 5 at the back what **** plays 5 at the back? (well in this case the **** with 3pts I guess) Need to start converting possession/chances into goals. -
On the other hand they can just click in a couple of games like Lovern and Victor. The PL is to tough to be able to give players a free ride for half season in a hope they bed in. It's probably a coincidence that the two PL era signings that haven't really clicked both came from playing Italy.
