Although I think the messaging from Starmer is naive and unnecessary, fundamentally he's right that this issue is being politicised, and people seem to want to focus on the race of the perpetrators rather than just getting on and taking the already recommended actions to reduce the prospect of more kids being violated. The focus needs to shift to action rather than blame.
-
We know there's a problem. Professor Jay investigated and reported over almost a 9 year period. Why do we need more than her final report, and implementation of the recommendations? Jay herself says we just need action, and yet more enquiries surely delays action?
-
It's a half way house, and I'm still waiting for the Tories to explain why a national enquiry has only become necessary since they left power and Musk piped up. All of this took place on their watch.

Charles played in the championship last season and looked poor so people wanted him to go on loan. He's played half a season in the championship this year and apparently is now a PL player. Smallbone played for Stoke in the championship the year before and looked decent. He also did pretty well last season. Bizarre how half a season in the championship makes someone a PL level midfielder.

It's like an mfi closing down sale back in the day. Always threatened, but it took years to bloody happen.

As I'm not sure where to start with that, I won't.

That's Trump's influence right there. Indirectly, or directly, his pending appointment has played a part in this agreement. I agree in the next part. Trump is as keen on a proper two state solution as he is on banning fake tan.

He's one of those players who appears to have improved in people's minds by being away. He wasn't good last season, and there was almost universal support for him being loaned because he hadn't been good enough. My original point though was that coming back and playing a small role is pointless if he could stay there and play. Our season is over, and it's better for the lad and us next season for him to be playing 90 mins each week for the rest of the season. I'm surprised there's disagreement on that.
-
Please don't confuse my acknowledgement of his effectiveness with any respect or support for the idiot. That I think he'll broker a solution on Ukraine is no endorsement of the man, and far from a belief that he'll do the right thing morally or by the people of Ukraine.
-
I'm a hater, but there is no doubt about the man's influence. Throwing his weight around and getting results before he's got the keys to the door is a sign of things to come. Let's see who controls the Panama canal this time next year, and whether there's a McDonald's and Taco Bell in downtown Nuuk.
-
Based on what? He was atrocious last season. Take the Liverpool cup game last season as an example.
-
Poor decision imo. He's better off playing up there than sitting on our bench or getting cameo's here and there. It'd only make sense of big Les was going back, but that'd make no sense.

Having a loon as the boss of the world has to have some perks.
-
To be fair, he pretty much has. Gaza should have been done months ago, and it's no coincidence it's happened now. Directly of indirectly he's got it over the line. We've confirmed that Chagos has stalled pending his input. Ukraine won't take long.

Yep. He was a phenomenal lawyer and very quick minded. That's what sets him apart from others at the despatch box.
-
That's a phenomenal number, but not surprising. I wouldn't be surprised if COVID has knocked off half of that again. The NI rises will be more damaging than people imagine.

Get a grip people. They ain't great either, and are a team under pressure. We'll give them a game, and it'll be closer than people think.

Bamburgh castle is something else, just magnificent. We went to seahouses to get the boat but the tide was too low. Then the penny dropped that the causeway must be open so jumped back in the van! Driving over was pretty special. Berwick impressed us too, just a thoroughly nice place with a lot of history. Just over the border, Jedburgh was interesting too. Craster was a quirky little place, and great if you like a kipper.

Cheers, never heard of staithes or saltburn. Will look them up, and see how it fits on the route.

Venture further north and try Northumberland. Imagine the new forest but with peaks and troughs, waterfalls, rugged coastlines and castles. The drive across the causeway to Lindisfarne is something else.
-
I will do, thank you. We've added some stuff from you and Gloucester to the list, and noted to swerve Bradford!!

Yep. I'm an unashamed lib dem who didn't vote for either so just say what I see. Labour inherited a mess, but have arguably made it worse with their financial decisions. I think we'll do well to avoid a difficult recession this year or early next, and there's a danger that of Torie esque spending cuts to help stop borrowing and the interest bil spiralling.
-
I'm loving this thread as we're doing a north yorks road trip in the camper in the spring, thanks. Did Northumberland a couple of years ago which was amazing, but never seen much of north yorks so really looking forward to it.

Only staunch labour voters will shout down due criticism. What I find irritating is the "it's all labours fault" without any acknowledgement of the mess they inherited. For me, the Tories got it wrong for too long, and labour have made poor decisions thus far.
