Everton are a very good side no doubt about it, but if we can press high up the pitch and get our passing game going like we did 2nd half against Villa we can get something. I agree, Yoshida was really good yesterday and Fonte looked much better for having someone next to him who can cover his lack of pace. Remains to be seen how well Jos plays next to him. But on yesterday's evidence a Yoshida/Fonte partnership should see us through until January when we will have the opportunity to bring in someone better to play alongside Yoshida.

I would have thought if he plays Tuesday, there's a good chance he won't start against Everton as Adkins likes to rest as many first choice players as possible in these cup games.

I was also impressed with the way he was willing to bring the ball forward himself if there wasn't a pass on and he had a bit of space.

I readily bashed Fonte before the season started and during the first few games but him and Yoshida looked a good pairing today.

Excellent second half, we tore them a new one and could have scored more than the four we got. Clyne and Puncheon should be given credit for bouncing back from their first half stinkers. Ramirez was brilliant, second half he was playing people through on goal almost at will. Mayuka also looks like a useful player, hopefully we can see what he's like over 90 minutes in midweek.

Yoshida was MOM first half for me, nothing he or Fonte could have done about the goal.

Yoshida must be thinking what he's gotten himself into considering the level of defensive talent around him.

Fox, Clyne, Puncheon have had stinkers first half. Lambert and Lallana not much better.

I don't think Kelvin will be ousted just yet, however if his performances don't improve then something has to be done and IMO if Gazzaniga isn't good enough to step in when the number 1 is injured/off form/not good enough then it seems like a waste of time in signing him.

Would be a good signing, but if their source is bleacherreport.com I doubt there is much mileage in this story.

I agree that Cortese is more likely to act sooner rather than later if we don't start picking up points now we've played all our toughest early fixtures. However, the OP's post is not based in reality as nothing Saints related has been on sky all afternoon.
