Just seen the Podolski free kick again. Was very poor from Davis, didnt get anywhere near the ball when it would have been routine for the majority of good keepers. Why does he look so small all of a sudden? And dumpy? Think he needs his yellow jersey back.

Maybe Mayuka was bought in as a 4-4-2 option? He might do very well playing off either Lambert or Rodriguez when needed.

Redknapp wouldnt fit at te club and it wont happen.... He's too cosy with the media, his rent a quotes wouldnt be tolerated, he is tatically poor and has only ever succeded when he's had a certain amount of flair players who can be given freedom to roam, otherwise he has no plan B. He is also very much old school and wouldnt embrace the sports science and modern day techniques employed at most top clubs in Europe which saints now adopt. Add to the fact that he's a lying two faced **** I'd say there is little or no chance of this happening.

You could list similar examples for just about everyone bar Reading though? And their sloppiness happened at the start of the season as opposed to the end. We're never going to be 100% at any level but as a team, we need to find a better shape and be more agressive and alert when we don't have the ball.

He's a very good right back IMO and has all the attributes to be great. He was at fault for Gervinho's second goal at the weekend, the OG was just unlucky and all fullbacks have seen those slice in from time to time. He could do with more protection, especially as he likes to get forward. If we can sort that out, he'll look an even better player.

I do agree that we didn't strengthen the defense enough, particularly left back and GK. However I dont agree that these positions were deliberately overlooked or that Adkins wishes were ignored. There are a multitude of reasons why we didnt strengthen in some areas as as you say, we can only speculate. However, like with the striker position last year I would imagine that if we didnt get all our targets over the summer, we'll revisit it in Jan. Hopefully it wont be too late by then.

I'm not going to go looking either but Adkins is always pretty coy on transfers when asked by the press so difficult to judge the situation by what Adkins says to the press. I think the club did try hard to bring in more defensive signings, there was the "quality" CB (which was in addition to Yoshida) which we were looking to sign near the close of the season. For whatever reason, it didnt come off but I dont think Adkins wishes were overlooked. Why would there be such mis-alignment between what Adkins wants and what "the others" want? Wouldn't make much sense and can't see any manager standing for it.

Adkins is part of the transfer commitee and views the same scouting reports and videos of each player the committee has targeted. It's a nonsense to suggest that X player is a Cortese signing or an Adkins signing otherwise it's pointless having a committee in the first place. It's a typical modern day set up. Sorry Kracken, regarding your comment above re Adkins knowing little about Ramirez, his quotes about him have always been consistent to me....quality young player who can add to the squad....ive seen nothing from him to suggest he didnt k iw enough about him or wouldnt want him

Cant be a bad shout. I know he's young but if he's confident enough, he'd have to have much more agility and better distribution than Davis. Don't know if it's the black kit but Davis looks really short and round and nothing like a premier League athlete

So simple..... A) sign 2 x undefined "quality premier league defenders" B) dont waste time trying to sign a highly rated young attack minded footballer C) do all your business between 1st-7th July because those signed afterwards will be useless and wont have time to bed in. It's just so simple I'm struggling to see how the club managed to cock it up so much.
