But then was stuck in a relegation battle all year - with Valencia eventually finishing 15th I think. and they finished bottom of the CL group.
-
I didn't quote what exactly was said, but more or less what was inferred - which was the case. Was mentioned in the full Solent interview, and as above on the echo. He would be made to look a clown if Rickie does go and we don't have a manager.
-
And played for them too! Managed Ajax, Benfica, PSV, Valencia, AZ, Feyenord - not bad. By all accounts though, his time at Valencia and AZ was awful - sacked from both clubs. Feyenord picked him up when his stock was at his lowest, although he's done a lot to redeem himself there. Good enough name and would have plenty of contacts. So we'll have to see. Not sure I'd be able to go back to hearing someone with a Dutch accent talking about the 'young boyesh'' again though. Flash backs.

Ronald Koeman seems to be the fancied one....being backed very heavily. What's everyone's thoughts on him?
-
Well, we do need a big name incoming to deflect from the big-name outgoings.... but I can't see us signing a manger who is currently at a club, reckon it will be an unattached foreign manager myself.
-
See, this is a little OTT. And what do demonstrations actually achieve anyway? They will do what they want, we have no say no matter what we do. Pointless exercise, and a bit OTT at the moment!
-
I think you've hit the nail with the 'hands off' reference. That's exactly what we've refused to say. It's literately been a come and buy from us since they came in. ''We've inherited a tough financial situation'' ''we will start discussions with clubs at the end of the season'' ''we will do what is best for Southampton'' ''players will go on our terms''. Clubs will lap it up, easy pickings. Lots of young, hungry English talent to be had on the south coast. Lambert did kind of come out of the blue, I thought he'd be here whatever....but it makes you think, if Lambert can go....who the hell else is attracting bids? Cork? Was that bid for Fonte from Hull true? Probably. At the end of the day we've opened our door, and I fail to see why. I don't see any sense in the asset stripping myself, I think it's just downright naivety and people in positions who don't know what they're doing. But they're taking the **** out of us, which is the worst thing. Transparency my arse.

If it's Garcia I will demand a refund of my season ticket!
-
Don't give up Rog. It'll be an entertaining season I reckon, maybe not in a mainly positive way...! but I don't see us going down, i'll put that out there now. We'll probably be in a battle of sorts though - so the end will be exciting!
-
I don't know what they want to do, and the worrying thing I feel is that they have no idea either.
-
Trust me, players were more than happy enough to stay here. It's like they have literately put everything up for sale and are entertaining any phone call. Ok, they've rejected bids, but it's probably followed by....''But if you came back with this, we'd accept''. Not hard nosed, easy pickings of English football once again. ''Come to Southampton, we do all the handwork and develop these players for you. They're now available for you''

Got a feeling ''What's the ****ing point?'' will be replacing ''It's Happening'' on the SMS banners shortly.
-
He could start by stopping talking such utter dross? ''No players will be sold without the new managers consent'' - lambert gone, without a manager. Good start.
-
To be honest, as crap as it is for us, you cannot help but feel a sense of pride to see Lambert turning out for his home town club. It's a story that will warm the hearts of any football fan - a wonderful journey and he deserves every single bit of it. Top bloke, always will be remembered as one of our best strikers in my generation.

I believe Alpine has applied for the role.

I hate the ring-fencing that is done on fans. ''happy clappy'' ''negative'' and now ''special fans''. All I can see on here are a bunch of passionate and dedicated saints fans who are all desperate to see their club do the best they can. All we are seeing at the moment is our manager going, our talisman striker on the verge of leaving and the very strong likelihood of our captain and leading defender following them. That's just depressing and it doesn't paint the board in a positive light, no matter how you swing it. Sure, they might be good bids, but what is it....do we not need the money? or are we up the creek financially? If we were as ambitious as we want us to be as fans, then we want the club to be hard nosed. Don't put value's on players heads, don't talk about doing what is right for the club - doing what is right for the club is keeping this squad together, but they're clearly not intent on doing that. The board have come across naive and very dim in how they've approached every situation thus far. RK is nothing but a spokesperson, he's clueless in terms of being a chairman in my eyes - he comes across as someone who is utterly, utterly out of his depth - and if the owner of this club is making decisions to appoint people like him to such a position, then you have to worry about future decisions. I might be being harsh on RK, but I don't have the time for people like him - just waffles nothing. Talks at you, and says nothing. Delivers, nothing. As a supporter base, we should be so excited for the summer. We've just had our best ever season in the PL, we've got a host of our players at the World Cup (playing for our own country) - yet we can't be excited, because we know they're all off anyway. Ok, it's not been announced yet - but it will happen, just as it did with MP. There's no point in tippy tapping around the edges and plugging your ears, these other sales will happen - it's just a matter of time. The club has set their stool out, players are for sale. Simple as that. Offer us what we deem as acceptable, then they can go. Gone are the days of us not even entertaining bids, we are now in a position whereby every, single person at the club is for sale at the right price. This board have got a hell of a lot to prove to win me over.

Gone are the days I used to look forward to Guan posting gossip

Just to throw one out there, maybe the new manager is done and he has sanctioned this transfer as he goes about finalising his contract with us. Nah, didn't think so either.
-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27629474 It's as close to being done as it can be, without being announced.
-
Sorry, but what the hell has this got to do with our media department? The reason the media have such a free-for-all is because of the likes of RK, and Hans whatshisname and their throwaway, naive comments. The comments regarding them inheriting a difficult financial situation was ill-advised, ill-timed and opened up the doors. This isn't anything to do with the media team. They put out what they're told to put out.

The last 3 echo headlines, in chronological order, in the last 3 days. 'We're aiming for Europe' - full interview with Saints chairman Ralph Krueger Ex-Brighton boss on Saints radar Lambert close to shock Liverpool move

How much money are we realistically going to spend this summer?

According to a Liverpool ITK, Liverpool are discussing a fee with us regarding Reed as well. -

Probably £30m or so, on a load of utter dross. -
That was already sanctioned, and they couldn't just stop the work 90% completed (As it was at that stage when they came in).
