Maybe because other clubs don't particularly need a player like him? We do, which is why we're in for him. Spurs and Liverpool needed wide players which is why they also tried. They obviously set their valuation on him and that was that. Clubs in Italy cannot afford him, full stop. That's come from plenty of italian journalists - and Gaston himself. Big clubs probably like him, but big clubs have players similar to him all over their team. The fact they don't want him doesn't mean he's a rubbish player.
-
You can't judge him one 3 games in an tournament. You really can't. The guy is a top, top player. That comes from Bolonga fans, their journalists and the proof of the clubs tracking him (other than us!). Of course we can't be sure if he'll be a massive success here, but you can't really pass this up because he didn't stand out in 3 games you watched. I'm happy to have him if he does sign.
-
If we want him, we'll have to and clubs can do multiple signings at any one time. Confused by the general thoughts that only one transfer can be done at a time. We don't just have Cortese negotiating. He'll have the final say, but we have resources.
-
Money. They want the cash. Gaston has by all accounts burnt his bridges there. They hold the cards at the moment, but the nearer the deadline approaches we will have the say (unless no one else comes in)
-
What? You posted as if he was ''set to sign''. When in fact he isn't. QPR have made a bid which hasn't even been accepted. therefore he isn't set to sign. He may do at some point, but they've only made a bid at this stage.
-
Brinkmanship. Who blinks first. If it gets to the deadline then they will blink, as they know that will be the best they can get.
-
Saintsweb wouldn't be the same without them.
-
So basically, nothing has changed what so ever. We are where we were 3 days ago. As i thought.
-
''Just about to land..?" They have bid, it's not been accepted and they haven't even agreed terms yet. So they're not just about to land anyone. They're testing the water. He will cost a hell of alot more than that. Who knows, we might even be on the case, the fact there's no news about us doesn't mean we're not interested either.
-
There is - it's just a waiting game. Don't expect anything imminently, this is something that will probably play until the deadline. In my opinion anyway. Nixon's take on it is interesting, he obviously has a very firm English based source connected to us that fed him the details re: Jay Rod and Clyne. Maybe we should lock this thread...cause the lack of news will only wind people up!
-
The funny thing is that we've gone from a feed saying it's done (20mins ago) to one now saying it's off. Basically, alot of this is rehashed. No one really knows yet. Let's just wait.

Forgot the Coffee bit - most important part!

Ok, let's just take a breather here for a second. I think a hell of a lot is being lost in translation here, it's easy for things to sound ''certain'' when it's not in translation. Let's basically go through what we know for sure. 1 - the player wants to join saints 2 - we have agreed contract length and terms with the player 3 - Bolonga want 15m euro's 4 - There is a discrepancy how we pay the money, in terms of over a period of time 5 - Spurs and Liverpool have signed (or are looking at) alternative targets 6 - Gaston has all but burnt bridges at Bolonga, they are looking at alternative players and want to reinvest the money All in all - I don't think much has changed today. As we edge nearer the window we will get a clearer picture. It's clear that Bolonga are mucking around a bit as they are in the strong position at the moment, but as we get closer to the end of the window you have to think that we have the stronger hand. They have no better offers, the player wants to go and they want the money. Nothing is decided either way yet, let's wait and see.
-
If we're honest, nothing has really changed has it?
-
The air. People seem to be plucking things out of the air here. Lets just wait. This is going to be too much of a roller coaster to be drawn either way. (even I've been guilty of that). This is case where the OS will be final.
-
Exactly this. People seem to react stronger to negative reports, yet quickly dismiss any positive reports.
-
Gazza Della sport seems to think it's off....waiting to see proper official lines first.
-
Do you really think that? We tried this because we thought we want to sign him, it wasn't to do with appeasing fans what so ever.
-
That's not the case though is it? We've signed plenty of good players, a deal like this for a club like us was always a huge effort.
-
If this turns out to be true, at least we're not spending money that we don't have. Sounds like we wanted a structured deal as we couldn't pay all up top, which is fair enough for a club like us - probably the only way we can actually sign a player as good as him. Bolonga have apparently moved the goal posts slightly though, in terms of the initial payment they want up front - which is something we're not willing to do at the moment. This has all stemmed from Gaston blabbing, and Bolonga have used this to their advantage. And a big advantage too.
-
Looks like it's gone the other way then, what a roller coaster.
-
I still can't quite get my head around, that after seeing the likes of Paul Wotton and Lloyd James, that we'll be seeing a player as good as Gaston strutting his stuff at St Mary's - in the space of 3 years. Can't quite get my head around our rise. Thank you markus.
-
No news is good news? Based on how easily Bologa's chairman and the player himself have blabbed, they maybe have nothing to blab about either way yet.
