Cash comes into it too. We’ve spent what we’ve spent pretty badly but thanks to the laughably misnamed FFP (which with VAR is the main reason I’m getting utterly disillusioned with top level football) we aren’t allowed to spend what it would really take to make us competitive.

This 100%. There should be an absolute time limit, I’d say 1 minute and even that’s too long. It’s shit, it sucks all the spontaneity and enjoyment out of the game, and it doesn’t even do what it’s supposed to do which is iron out clear and obvious errors. Instead we have the bizarre spectacle of them examining replay after replay, angle after angle for any tiny shred of evidence to either overturn or not overturn the goal depending on which team scored it or if the VAR team are mates with the ref and want to make his original decision look right even if its wrong.

I have to say I fear our star is very very much on the wane. I think the best we can hope for is a few seasons of Norwich hopping but even that is unlikely and is an utterly fucking depressing thought anyway. I didn’t think the level of disillusionment I feel right now was even possible.

If we play like we did for most of tonight then there is hope against Palace and Wolves, Ipswich and Leicester and maybe a disinterested on the beach mid table Bournemouth or Fulham to scrape together 6 points. That’s our season right there, can we avoid the utter humiliation of being statistically the worst team ever to play at this level by scraping together SIX more points. Night all and sleep well!!!
