  1. Living in a false sense of security since Freemantle FC folded if you ask me.
  2. No idea if true that it's been requested or declined. But it might ha be deemed a 'political gesture' which isn't accepted by the FA. Presumably our one match sponsorship by Cats Protection has also been vetoed.
  3. Yes, I think we should take this, the scenic route, into Europe.
  4. I remember this being the case for quite a few seasons when we were at our best under Lawrie. we'd steamroller anybody at home it seemed, but then fall apart the following week away at a lower team such as Bolton. This was typified for me c 1979 when our home form was great but the played Coventry away, at a time we had Chris Nichol and Dave Watson in defence, both experienced internationals and at their peak. Coventry had two unknown teenagers up front, Gary Thompson, and Mark Hateley who ran rings round them and we lost 4-0. Same season I think Phil Boyer was leading goal scorer in the Division, for months but all scored at home. Didn't score away from The Dell until January. Great mystery why we couldn't do it away. Had Lawrie sorted this we'd have been title contenders for a few seasons.
  5. Can't say I'd go that far in the description of our kit if you're referring to eleven blokes even playing for Saints.
  6. Around the same era, John McGrath taking to the field after the test of the team, with his shorts pulled up around his thighs making it look as he was wearing a pair of black underpants or swimming trunks. Brian O'Neil - socks around ankles, no shinpads.
  7. Think the Chelsea win was 1977, 3rd round replay after we started our defence of the trophy. Drew 1-1 at The Dell, but won the replay 3-0 up there.

Plus no mention of the fact he hates Pompey.
  10. Few beers on the way, bit like the old days.
  11. You're probably right, but you would hope the season ticket/membership schemes would prevent this. Unlikely to though as Coventry seemed to have a lot of support seen cheering their goal in the Itchen stand. What restrictions, if any, are in place, if this reaches General Sale ?
  12. Remember the cardboard boxes !
  13. Taking the thread off tangent for a moment : Living in the north east in the early 1980's and the local commercial station at the time (Metro radio) used a few bars of 'Music' as a run up to their hourly news. As you say, must have been strange for him finding out his music ended up in places he wouldn't have expected. Wonder if he was receiving royalties on the back of it.
  14. He was one of the great voices of sport that will live with me from my childhood. Others being David Coleman, Brian Moore, and the commentators from that era, along with Cliff Morgan, Bill McLaren. Many an hour was spent with Eddie Waring or Kent Walton in the background whilst waiting for the results. Except this score was a myth. This is a good read: https://www.nutmegmagazine.co.uk/issue-7/forfar-5-east-fife-4/ And https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44916496
  15. This is interesting and something I raised on another thread. The only article I found was this which seemed a fairly typical pre-match nicety and given RH leaving Leipzig with a year to run on his contract I've often thought the relationship likely to be strained. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/ralf-rangnick-ralph-hasenhuttl-leipzig-bundesliga-southampton-b2013577.html Any chance you could post the Athletic article please ?
  16. Rashford OBE please, have some respect. I'm not going to make a case out for him and agree he's been overhyped as are all their players when things are going well. But is it possible he and everyone else have been forced to adapt their games to allow Ronaldo and his ego centre stage at every opportunity ?
  17. And then there would be a gathering outside the newsagents at 6pm for the Sports Echo when blokes would review the results (that they could remember from Final Score) before the papers arrived.
  18. This might be the main hope of retaining Broja. Ideally would like Salisu to stay another season with new contract to protect our position though.
  19. Ceefax/Teletext brings back less happy memories. Tranmere away, which got worse every time I looked. then the confirmation one Monday morning that Hoddle had fucked off back to spurs.
  20. On The Ball in the 1970’s , Saint & Greavsie was a later variation of it. Bulk of the programme often taken up by horse racing. Yawn. Can’t clearly remember who presented On The Ball, possibly Brian Moore and Jimmy Hill (before he switched to BBC).

    Whats changed?

I’d change that round and say having the best 11 available to him and all playing to their potential. Take two or three out ( the Romeu- JWP hub) and best CB’s out and it’s a different story.
  22. Think they had this as the height of technology on both Grandstand and World of Sport. Possibly at the bottom of the screen whilst watching a tense last 10 minutes of wrestling (Kent Walton commentating ! Remember Les Kellet was always worth watching) whilst waiting for the final scores.
  23. Possibly before your 40 years as this brings back memories of listening in the late 1970’s but recall they used to play the theme from Freewheelers, a 60’s children’s programme produced by Southern TV. Fond memories. Living near Reading had to extend the aerial in the right direction to pick up a signal. Recall Tony Husband, Ian Henderson presenting, and Tony Michener (usually at Bournemouth). Can’t remember who covered the skates (wonder why ).
  24. Was the John Miles music taken from ‘Music’ ?
