  1. He's won everything going with Barcelona and for Spain. Bloke clearly needs a new challenge, but unlikely we'd persuade said bloke to realise it and do the obvious thing and join us.
  2. Actually the plain white back for Reading is a recent development. Sorry, you're not quite as unique as you'd like to think. I'm not bothered if we have the 'same' r&w traditional stripes as another club providing it is our traditional kit. But yes, would love it, really love it, for a return to the air florida kit.
  3. "Fields of Athenry" , about some poor Irish bloke being transported to Australia due to English landowners and politicians during the potato famine. Strange how they don't mind using the famine as a convenient backdrop to sing about their 'martyr's' , but find reference to it by Rangers fans as offensive.
  4. Which one ? Club shop has some (KK era, ridiculous red one with white 'Sue Ellen shoulders', 1976. or try Toffs.
  5. F^ck off - many of us are still stuck in the 1980's and have not reached S-club yet.
  6. You may be right, but it was equally nauseating then as it is now.
  7. As did David Armstrong. But the link does not end there as both were left sided midfielders.Adkins take note.

    The mantra...

It strikes me as a sort of psychological profiling or identikit for potential recruits
  9. Watching the Rep of Ireland/Eire game tonight, wondered if our kit is a red version similar to theirs ie contrasting red columns, with a pinstripe (in their case gold, in ours white). Crap if it is.
  10. You could'nt make this up could you ? Remember Sybil Fawlty complaining to Basil over in advertisment he had placed in the paper saying "No riff-raff".
  11. Sorry, I wasn't setting it out as how we broke our records, but just some recollections of big money signings. One thing I could not remember was when we first broke that six figure barrier. I don't actually recall anyone for £100,000 so did we go from Steele to Osgood ?
  12. Sorry , confusing Harchester with Fulchester !
  13. Rumour that we could also be signing the Big Busted Red Indian Squaw as well.
  14. Turkish, are you relaxed about the polo shirt he was wearing for the signing photo ? And, anyone know if he was looking at quilted jackets in WEst Quay ? If so, I think we should be told.
  15. you sure he's not Welsh ? It gets a bit multi-cultural around Tiger Bay in Cardiff you know. Only a p!ss take btw
  16. Some random recollections to put this in context: I remember when we were all astonished when Saints first splashed out to join the 'big time' , spending £275,000 on Peter Osgood. That was the sort of money we never thought Saints would spend on a single player (1974). We later spent £400,000 on Charlie George in 1979, £440,000 on KK (1980) before breaking the half million mark on David Armstrong (1981). Alan McLoughlin was our first (disastrous) £1m player . But if we want a parrallel with Jay R at c£6m , remember that when we were first promoted in to the old First Division in 1966 Ted Bates spent - what I believe was a club record at the time - £60,000 on a player who had never played in the top flight before, Ron Davies. If JR is half as good as Big Ron, it will be money well spent.
  17. Who knows ? Trippier was quoted earlier in the summer as happy at Burnley, not looking to move etc. But with some former team mates here to whisper, tweet, text etc ? Having said that I doubt Burnley will be keen to lose another player, especially to us. Bet 'loyal Eddie' regrets "turning us down" now though.
  18. An incredible transformation it bring as well.
  19. Sacked from where ? Presumably not a club but hotel employee. Just occurs to me, how and why no one in The Potters Heron made a flurry of phone calls back in 1980 before the KK news broke. Someone must have seen him have a quick Barbican with Lawrie , or nip to the Gents before he strode out into the news conference.
  20. Congrats on being the first moan about our first signing of summer. Have to say, Legod , I would have been disappointed to have drawn your name if such a sweepstake had existed. Alpine & Dalek will be heartbroken that you have taken their thunder quite so early.
  21. Is this done by earlobe identification then ? All I can see is a few suits taking photos etc.

  23. On the subject of which North Baddesley was home to Keith Harris and Orville the Duck (acc to Wikipedia).
