The club should seriously consider a defamation suit. It's one thing to make an allegation to the authorities for investigation but another thing to constantly brief the press with spurious shit whilst the investigation is ongoing.

It's clear we accept that some person with some link to the club was there. But if that link is "former intern" and if we didn’t put him up to it, and if we didn't actually receive or use any of the info, then frankly this barely even merits a fine.

I think everyone would be shocked if it was flat out denied that someone was there and watching the training. That would be to say that the entire thing is a fabrication. But the questions are: - who was it? - are they employed or a freelancer? - if the latter, did we ask them to do this? If so, who? - what exactly were they doing? - did they communicate back to the club etc.... - what controls / policies were in place to stop this happening etc.

If we're shown not to have done anything wrong then it absolutely is defamatory. He didn’t say we had been charged, he said we had cheated and implied we had done it lots of times. Definitely actionable if not shown to be true. No point suing him, other than for fun, though.
