Indeed. One can be critical of the WHO and China without swallowing Trump's rancid load. And, in any case, Trump seems pretty cool with China's response. As he said on 24 January: "The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People [sic], I want to thank President Xi". #stablegenius I think it's clear from this, and the homo-erotic helicopter trips, that GM likes a strong man. Unfortunately, Trump is a dribbling, incoherent, pathetic wreck. Poor choice.

"No one knows more about the Onchocerciasis Control Programme than me."

Trump-style deflection. Classic.

So what? Did Trump's ban stop the disease? It was already in the US then. Subsequently, of course, he said cases would soon drop to zero and it would disappear like a miracle. You're such easy fodder for people like him. Useful idiots.

As the wages are deferred, not cancelled, the tax take should ultimately end up being unaffected by the wage deferral. Basically, the players are making an interest-free loan to the club to ease cash flow.

Tends to be the religious folk who go down the intolerance path.

No expert has said, “don’t conduct widespread testing”, “don’t try to trace contacts”, “don’t invest in decent PPE”, “Cheltenham Festival is a good idea”. The government tells experts what information and options it wants within certain parameters. Ultimately the government sets policy. It’s clear that the initial response was based on the principle of not wanting to overreact and damage the economy, so it would have taken advice on possible options against that guiding premise. Then they realised they’d screwed up and did a sharp u-turn.

Long, but interesting, comparison between UK and Ireland: I haven't tried to verify any of the stats cited but I assume they are accurate.

If you don't challenge views and beliefs you end up beholden to nonsense. The irony!

You think a sociopathic liar with dementia will do a good job? I won't be surprised if he wins because for some reason the Democrats want a candidate that makes him look young (even though he can't stand up straight, read for more than about 20 seconds or speak coherently) and he will cheat brazenly and lie constantly throughout the campaign.

That is nice. Good stuff.

If it's enough to keep everyone else on 100% whilst this ticks over without taking public money then that's good enough for me.

“the Democrats are politicising the coronavirus… this is their new hoax.” “We’ve got 15. And soon we’ll go down to zero.” ”One day it will just go away. Just like that. It’s a miracle”. ”Hydroxychloroquine. What do you have to lose? Take it.” Trump >>> WHO

WHO experts have said all along that high levels of testing and tracing are key. Funnily enough, the countries that have done that have controlled this the best.

We'll know he's OK if he tries to knob a nurse.

Interesting and detailed report on what has gone on in government. Lots of lessons to be learned. [special Report: Johnson listened to his scientists about coronavirus - but they were slow to sound the alarm] https://va.newsrepublic.net/al/rbjRmh

No ****, Shurlock. All the advice and expertise from people who actually know what they are doing said that was the way to go. This isn’t a revelation that has come to us now. The government chose to dither and procrastinate. Still, could be worse, we could be Turkmenistan or the USA.

Speaking of Spurs.... Has anyone else apart from us conceded four goals in extra time in an English cup match?
