"Homegrown" means that they spent three years contracted to an English league club before the age of 21. Cesc Fabregas would be "homegrown" for example. It doesn't really have a "great" history either does it. Few clubs have "great" histories. Most, like the Skates have a couple of decent periods and mostly hum-drum or poor periods. They had a good spell off the back of World War Two; they then had what Harry Redknapp memorably described as "fourty years of dross", followed by an FA Cup win, a couple of mid-table finishes and an impending relegation.

Middlesboro will never go anywhere with anyone. They have a small fan base and are geographically disadvantaged (to put it politely). Their correct level is in the Championship. Luckily for them, they have a very good senior management who will ensure they don't overstretch themselves and get ruined. They will probably get promoted again at some point and then relegated after a year or two. It'll be a laugh.
