Good business for £2.25 million IMO. Benega isn't a defensive mid, he's a playmaker. He's ok defensively and could play deeper but you wouldn't play him without another sitting mid. Last year for Valencia he played in a more advanced position, in the hole. He likes run at people and play through balls etc. Similar in style to say Iniesta but obviously not as good.
-
Celtic fans saying he was on around £2k at Beerschot, then around £7k a week with them and was offered around £25k a week to stay which is on about par with their other top earners. So yeh, I reckon we are offering him around the £40-45k margin. I rekcon his agents are trying to get the £65k a week area, probably because stupid QPR probably said they would pay him that much seeing as they pay the likes of Barton and Onouha that amount.

Celtic offered him a new contract, which would have tripled his wages but he turned it down. That's what the Celtic fans are saying on that forum, in between arguing with MLG obviously!

I love the quote from the agent that says - Ignoring the fact he would now be in the championship. Basically very much an agent who thinks he can hold clubs for ransom and clear that he doesn't particularly care about the players career just how much money there is to be made. Have to applaud Cortese's stance on this, seems like if this all happened two weeks ago the leaked information is probably them posturing to get more deals on the table because their little games to get us to pay more hasn't worked.

^ Because it's a risk, he's had some good European games but that's a handful, week in week out he's playing against league 1/2 standard players. Also Arsenal don't spend money and I don't think any of the other top 4/5 need that sort of player at the moment. Especially considering Saints have probably done most of the work.

I think that people should remember that the guy is only 21, I imagine the agents have secured his moves to Europe from Kenya as a young kid (he was only 17 I think) so you've got a young guy playing football in fairly obscure and poor country and these guys get him to fame and fortune. It's no surprise really he's listening to them and maybe feels he has a bit of loyalty to them. Plus doesn't this agent only really have one other major client? Pienaar, who is 31 now and is unlikely to get another big move so basically the agent's career probably depends on Wanyama. If Celtic are happy with our deal I wonder if they could divert some of the transfer funds to the agent as a compromise, maybe make up the £500k difference, they would still be making £1.5 million more then what Cardiff are offering.

Ray Wilkins got 84 England caps and played for Milan, so I would probably take the Kenyan Ray Wilkins.

Most of the celtic fans think he is, they think he's be a top player for a top club. Are they right, no idea. Personally I've only seen him in a few champions league games.

When I first read the title of this thread I thought it said 'Triple Sub', which I'm pretty sure was a Bobby Robson speciality. Anyway I don't really see Wanyama or Naingollan as unrealistic targets. Players especially foreign ones want to play in the Premier League, we can offer the ones that aren't quite targets for a top 4 an opportunity to do that probably with a pay rise as well. They can then prove they are good enough for Arsenal, Uts, City etc. I think we all know Celtic are a massive club, something like 12 million fans world wide and get 45k a week but their league is dire, as Window Cleaner points out most of the other clubs there are probably smaller than Pompey and would struggle in league 1 and even Celtic's first team squad is really a collection of ex-championship players and a collection of buys from Europe's other minor leagues. All they have left is the Champions League, they are 1-40 on to win the league this year and even their team knows everything rests on them getting to the Champions League group stage - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/celtic/10132805/Celtics-season-depends-on-qualifying-for-Champions-League-group-stage-warns-Joe-Ledley.html

29, can't remember my first game but it was when I was about 17 as my Dad hates football. I live in Waltham Chase and generally try to go about half a dozen games a year as I play football most Saturdays and Sundays in the winter and same with circket during the summer.

Well, there was that quote about Cortese basically starting negotiations with "if this gets out, the deal is off", maybe that actually works in some cases and we are going to get a signing we didn't see coming?
-
The youngsters will get a chance I'm sure just like Shaw and James Ward Prowse have. What people have to remember is that not every 17/18 year old is ready to play premiership football. We shouldn't worry if some of these players haven't established themselves straight away. We've been kind of spoiled in recent years with these 16/17 year olds instantly making an impact in the first team. Then likes of Seagar, Targett may take a few more seasons but I don;t think we have just abandoned the policy.

That's essentially the same they were saying on their forums, they are upset and I suspect they will go into meltdown if he does actually sign for us. I think all Saints fans know that they are a bigger club but their league is sub-championship standard and their team wouldn't be good enough for the premier league. They had guys yesterday telling me Joe Ledley was better than Cork . The reality is the premier league and the cash that goes with it is a big draw for players these days. They may not want him to go to a small club like us but he seems worried about getting first team footie at the bigger clubs, plus we give him the chance to prove himself in the top leagues, he's 21 I'm sure if he continues to improve he'll have a shot at a massive club. Also the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd etc don't seem to have bid. Also whatever the agreed fee, be it £10 or £12 (not upwards of £15 million ) It's going to be a Scottish Record Transfer if we sign him.

Who is this person and why hasn't he tweeted it?
-
As far as I can tell though he's not tweeted anything though? Last tweet was 18th June.
-
Celtic fans are saying those Kenyan quotes are made up. In fact some don't believe we have even bid.
-
Also now winding them up tis fun!

Goals per game in Italy has been about .5 less than the PL for the last 3 seasons.
-
defensive was probably the wrong word, essentially what olalallna ssaid. It's also still a one in two record with all that off the pitch nonsense going on, imagine what he could do with fans and a manager who back him.
-
Italian fans are mental so that probably doesn't help, the guy just sounds passionate and a bit of character. I mean the italian press made up a story about his mum being dead! Pochettino has managed him before and obviously thinks he knows how to handle him so I would trust that judgement. Plus 27 goals in 54 for Roma with all that going on in a defensive league.
-
Osvaldo just seems to speak his mind and doesn't seem to tolerate 100% I think he's got a good attitude. As long as a player is professional and gives his best in matches and training, I don't really care what he does in his private life as long as it is legal. Would you discard Beckham on the same basis? He's been posing in his pants many a time but he's also throughout his career been one of the most hardworking and professional players around.

23 posts already MLG? He's trolling those Bhoys hard.

He'd be a waste at centre-back. I have a guy in my amateur team, he's big, strong, quick and a decent footballer. He can run games from midfield. He's played centre-back a few times and he does a job yes but his influence is diminished. IF Wanyama has qualities like Viera or Yaya Toure I don't think we want him sitting at the back, we want him bullying midfielders, starting counter attacks and winning headers. IF he's as good as some people make out he'll be a key centre-mid for us.
