  1. IF IF IF. IF Adkins had stuck with Boruc I'm pretty certain we'd have about 6-8 more points as the team (bar the keeper) had settled and was playing decent football by November/December but still gifting goals to the opposition. Pretty sure as well Gaston has goals and assists that have directly gained us valuable points, not to mention a lot his build up play has played a role in some important wins. FACT is we have stayed up thus our transfers have done what was required of them.
  2. It's amazing people can never see things from other points of view. Empathy is one of the most underrated emotions. Put yourself in Pochettino's shoes, you've been a successful manager in Spain, highly rated young coach who's tenure at your favourite club ended bitterly as your best players were sold form under you. You've had some offers from other clubs but this guy contacts you about a job at club you've never heard of but he promises investment, describes a project, with talented young players in a team that won't be sold, with ambitions to move the club up the table onto bigger and better things. So you agree, excited by the project, up and move yourself to a new country into a not well know area and vow to learn a new language. You put all your enthusiasm into the job, work 12 hours a day. You have a solid start but thing could go better but you secure survival and can now but the big promised plans into action with a full pre-season ahead and signings all ready being lined up. Suddenly the guy that has brought you there, promised this backing might leave, the guarantees about funding and not selling players might be taken away. I think his position is very understandable.
  3. Jordan Henderson? Had one friendly cap at the time. Joe Allen? went for £15 million and well anyone that plays professional football and has welsh heritage can get capped for Wales so I doubt his international status played much part. Lampard bought for £11 million in 2001 and like Henderson only had 1 friendly cap. Phil Jones? £17 million and hadn't got a cap before he played for Utd. (Chris Smalling was £10 million and he'd only played about a dozen premier league games)
  4. He's not but we don't need to sell, he's made no movement to leave and has a long term contract. Thus a stupid offer would have to be tabled for him to buy him. I doubt also he'd make any fuss about moving to Inter, yes a once European powerhouse but only 9th this year and have had a lot of financial struggles. Much more likely for him to go to a champions league team.
  5. You could of course base it on a player by player basis. We have a south american manager, several Spanish speaking coaches and two other South Americans in the squad. We also play a style of football that a South American manager made famous. We had Delgado under a gruff Strachan who probably didn't fit under his style and essentially he was ruined because both he and Ecuador desperately wanted to play in the world cup so he did whilst injured. Just because we had one rubbish player from Ecuador doesn't mean another will be.
  6. I seriously doubt most players would look at the table, they would just know the club is in the Premier League and then look at what wages he is being offered, some then might look at the area, training facilities, stadium etc. as well but it's that wage packet and playing in the premier league which are the main draws. Also any player that looks at the table will see that it's so tight anyway, I can't see it being a factor that someone would come if we were 11th but not if we were 17th. I would imagine even things like the teams style of play and the other players would be bigger factors than that.
  7. I think the club are trying to develop Morgan into the true box to box all round midfielder who makes late runs into the box. I'm not sure we need two people doing it as it could harm our balance.
  8. It does apart from the Striking options with Sordell, Wickham and Zaha. Congrats to Shaw and Clyne though, Pearce seemed to get a bit iffy with Shaw about his withdrawals so glad he got over that.
  9. This guy also links us with Jese from Real Madrid and says we have agreed a fee for Remy as well, (also Everton have apparently agreed a fee as well with no manager!) and Joan Capdevilla will join as a coach. LOL
  10. Not directly at your OP but more at some of the responses. He's played every game under Pochettino but he's clearly not that useful when chasing a game which probably explains his substitutions. I would reckon we've been linked with some central midfielders because we need options for injuries. We were woeful without Cork at the start of the season and we've been lucky since that neither Cork or Morgan have been injured. Neither Davis or JWP are suited to those defensive type roles and to be honest even though he;s probably not good enough I do wonder whether it was worth keeping Hammond around as back up.
  11. We won't win the league but the managerial changes may give us an opportunity to get higher up if we invest. There is certainly a worry for Everton who will be without their manager of 11 years and look likely to loose Baines, Jagielka and Fellaini. The managerial changes plus the possible moves of Rooney, Suraez, Bale. The expected spend again of Chelsea and Man City under new managers, plus the extra TV money means there will be a lot of transfers flying around the summer. We are going to do well to keep the likes of Shaw and Morgan.
  12. Would like to see Puncheon in for Lallana and JWP in for Davis, be interesting to see JWP in a more advanced role. Also would like to see Chambers given a go on the bench.
  13. We're questioning Cork now? Jees. The guy has been instrumental in our improved defensive play and us staying in the league but he's getting criticised for not scoring? Makele barely ever scored but was vital to both Real Madrid and Chelsea. Cork does the same role for us, people should have noticed that he is the sitting one and does not have the same licence to get forward that Morgan does so it's not really surprising he doesn't get many goals. He can tackle, pass, run all day and read the game. He's got decent strength and pace as well. Cork and Morgan set the platform to allow the likes of Jay Rod, Gaston, Lallana, Puncheon as well Shaw and Clyne the freedom to get forward and score the goals without worrying about strict defensive duties. When we have decent possession Morgan then goes forward as an extra option because he has the pace and running power, but also because there is always that security of Cork. JWP is just a better attacking option, he's more suited to play in front of Cork/Morgan.
  14. You just whine. That's not an opinion it's just an annoying noise. As soon as your whine gets found out you move the goal posts and whine about something else. You criticise our transfers yet our transfers have been good enough to keep us in the league. You criticise Cortese yet he's consistently been proven right when you whiners have been consistently been shown as nothing but whingers. We were definitely going down, now we are safe you start whining about something else. It's hilarious that describe yourself as a realist when you completely ignore reality. Case in point is that article you quoted. Saint Bobby highlighted at no point has European football been PROMISED yet you go and quote an article that entirely talks about hopes and ambitions, yet at no point PROMISES anything or even suggests we will achieve anything like that.
  15. Probably this, or NC wants to go all Man City/PSG in the summer. Considering everything Saints FC related rarely gets out in the media unless Cortese wants it to be there I think he's done this on purpose to put pressure on the owners.
  16. Lol, clasping at Straws with Guly, very hard to make him out to be a bad signing. He might not be premier league player but considering he was signed in league one he's helped us get promoted. Ramirez has also done ok. In fact you can't really question his buying quality considering we've gone from league one to staying up in the premiership. You trolling attempts are laughably funny. A plan was agreed between Marcus and Cortese from the start and presumably the family now want to change this slightly, in what way we don't know but seeing as they fund the club it;s up to them. Cortese's record speaks for itself though and has been proven right time and time again. It would be a big loss if he went.
  17. No. I think he has autonomy now, and the owners want to maybe change that to more of board system with people in control of different areas. Maybe we are looking to spend some serious cash this summer and they are worried that one guy has complete say on it.

    Lambert

I think he's probably just tired. He's played a part in all 37 games so far this season in one of the highest tempo leagues in the world where you come up against beasts like Huth and Samba who push, pull, shove and kick the crap out of you. He's also only not played the full 90 minutes in 9 of those games. Simply we have relied on him too much this year and that is now showing.
  19. Saying the owners are looking to sell is taking a giant leap from that story. For me either:- - Cortese wants more cash to push on quickly next year and the owners don't want to invest as much. or - They want someone else to be involved in decision making and Cortese wants autonomy. Not a good time for instability though when we are trying to get our signings in for next season.
  20. This. We were arguably the better team against West Ham, Swansea, Sunderland and Spurs in recent weeks but have gained just 3 points from those games. We need to take our chances better and create more from our generally good play. He also managed successive mid table finishes with virtually no budget and having his best players sold. Also 'hoof' Stoke have been in the premiership for four seasons now and spent close to a £100 million, they currently sit just a mere point above us and will drop below us if we win next week.
  21. Everyone below Liverpool down to the bottom 3 really is very close in terms of quality, a bit of form, one decent signing (i.e. Lukaku or Michu this year) and some luck with injuries can decide the positions here. Also 3 of the current top 6 will have different managers next year. Potentially Wenger and Mancini could be out as well. That will not only cause an effect to the lower teams (i.e. someone like Laudrup could get the Everton job) but also it will have a knock on effect for signings. Players like Fellaini and Baines could leave Everton, they then could use those funds to raid some of the lower clubs. Big names like Rooney, Bale and Suarez might leave the league. A new manager could get funds at Arsenal, Mourinho will get a war chest at Chelsea, City will buy again (and need to sell surplus players as well) Even Cardiff are well backed and will spend I reckon. I would reckon Pardew and Pulis might be sweating over their jobs as well. It's going to be an interesting summer. I'll go for - Chelsea Utd City Spurs Arsenal Liverpool Swansea Saints WBA Everton Newcastle Sunderland West Ham Villa Norwich Cardiff Stoke Fulham Watford Hull
  22. Try and win the game with the best team available. I would imagine though that JWP and Puncheon are both now in the managers minds for starts. Yoshi will probably come back in. You could put the likes of stephens, chambers etc, on the bench though.
  23. Would be a disaster.
  24. He's a bizarre person, there is one thing having a critical opinion but just trolling the same rubbish when the facts make you look a complete tw*t is very bizarre
  25. Defoe has good feet, Sturridge is massively inconsistent and Wellbeck is one of the clumsiest players around. They are both just pace, without it neither would be a premier league player let alone an England one.. Take Lambert's penalties away he's still many goals ahead of a player that plays for the best club in the country and still can't score. Maybe Roy should realise that playing counter attack and having players with pace is kind of pointless against teams that sit deep against you, the likes of Wellbeck and Sturridge just run into players when we play teams like Poland and the Ukraine and their lack of technical ability gets massively shown up. Lambert might not be the answer but from what I've seen and the results back it up Wellbeck, Sturridge and Defoe aren't either, England aren't going to do anything with Hodgson in charge with that sort of attitude. He talked about not using the same players that have been to the last 3 world cups but that's exactly what he has done.
