Ramiez, time to settle or not good enough?
tajjuk replied to southamptonfclegend's topic in The Saints
what is thread? Didn't he play well yesterday and score a good goal? -
Aside from Butland I don't remember links to any keeper in the summer, certainly not one to replace Davis. I think that Adkins and everyone else thought that Davis who had been excellent in the championship and very reliable would be a good enough short term option as a Goalkeeper. After the first 5 ot 6 games it became apparent that he clearly wasn't up to it. it's all good in hindsight but when doing summer transfer target priorities I think it's fair enough that GK wasn't one when you had a very exerienced keeper who had been one of the best in the championship the season before.

He was quoted though and if the reporter made it up that's libel. I have no doubt he's on that much money, one of the top prospects in Europe coming to a newly promoted club was always going to involve some decent wages.

We were lucky that Shaw a 17 year old was ready to be a premier league regular at such a tender age and it happened to be in a position we were weak. But as timayes said we were unlucky in other area, like Cork's injury at the start or idiots barracking Boruc in the Spurs game. Reckon we would have a fair few more points on the board if that hadn't have happened.

When I said trophies I didn't just mean the top ones, the guy has been managing for 20 years now and has a grand total of 1 Irish league title and a League 2 division title, 2 play-off wins as well as amassing a career win ratio of just over 40%. Compare to say Adkins who's been managing for about half the time and he has a 50% win ratio, won a league with S****horpe and a play off, several with Bangor and 2 league runner ups with us. Again I'm not saying he's crap, just don't think you could him a 'sccuessful' manager', I didn't say he was awful or bad, just think he's an average manager, he'll do an ok job at a club. How many Premier League clubs do you reckon if they lost their managers tomorrow and Allardyce was available would appoint him?

2 million euros a year after tax so I think it works out at about £62k a week. He said so himself.

All those teams have better players than we do IMO. It's what we do (and what they do) in the summer that will determine whether we can challenge around the top 6. Swansea and West brom this year show that you don;t need a massive squad full of superstars to be there or there abouts. However those teams are still there ahead of them. Will Wenger finally spend and plug the obvious gaps in his squad? If he does there is no way we will get close to them. Will Moyes stay at Everton? If he doesn't combined with potential sales of Baines and Fellaini next year might be a struggle for Everton. And Liverpool, well they have possibly the league's best player this year and still aren't in the running for the top 4 spots that's how hard this will be. If they loose Suarez maybe we can be a bit closer to them because they won;t be able to replace him. Then there is who we buy (and who we keep) are we going to spend another £30-40 million this summer? Are we going to see 2-3 Ramirez equivalents? Are we going to keep Clyne, Shaw, Morgan etc. Extend our 'Poch Form' over a season (1.5 points per game) and you get 57. Arsenal are 4th with 56 and 6 games to play, so about 64 -70 points will get you 4th so you are looking at us being twice as better than we have been over this season.

Half decent was probably the wrong description, but West Ham were in the Championship when he got the job and at Newcastle probably the highest profile job he's had he won 8 out of 24 and alienated the fans. He's never actually won anything and never been considered for a higher level job so I'm not sure how you could call that successful. An average abiltity manager that does decent jobs at clubs playing generally poor to watch football. As I said he's seen as a safe option and that's why West Ham got him. He got them up (just) and he's kept them up and he'll keep them up next year so clearly he's not a terrible manager and nor have I said he is. However if you maybe want to play some better football that the fans actually like watching and maybe see a few young players in the team that develop so the club grows I don't think he's a good manager in this regard.

Turkish I honestly couldn't give a flying salmon f*ck what you think. You being a registered user is the best thing to happen to this Forum and I'm entirely delighted that most post has riled you. I got the bit about Bolton incorrect I meant Blackburn, two B's what can you do. He did very well at Bolton but has never kicked on from there, he left to Newcastle to win trophies and was widely hated for average results and sh*t football, that's why he was sacked. He got some of his previous clubs to upper mid table and I also acknowledged that sacking him has been to their detriment something as usual you chose to ignore this because it would upset your tolling . If you read my comment with the other posts that were written around it I was responding to someone else who acknowlegded that Allardyce teams occasionally have a good season and bump themsleves up to top half but generally hover in the midtable area. If he's such a good manager why the f*ck hasn't any half decent club had him as manager? and why has he been sacked so many times? Answer that one Mr 'think's he has the knowledge of all football'. Even all the West Ham fans know he was brought in to do a job of getting them up and keeping them up but have already started to question his tactics, style of football and long term planning. As usual you cherry pick a post, take it out of context, and then proceed to act all smug like some stupid dog that has found a bone. Are you expecting some sort of keyboard warrior medla for finding a dew holes in my post? Or do you just crave attention? Hopefully you'll waste your other two posts on replyng to this as well so no one else has to listen to suffer you.

Silly people making us all look bad. This does mean we will lose now, all signs point to it: - Lawrenson predicts a win. - we're at home. - we're in form. - we've been slagging West Ham off. - we've won 3 in a row.
-
Hope they are working on Boruc, we've found a decent keeper now and that's a struggle for some clubs. Great news about Lallana, very loyal player and I still think he'll get better and better.

6 goals in 26 for Sunderland and that was playing as a Striker. He's overated because of who he plays for, and his goal record considering who he plays for is terrible. Strikers score goals and set them up. Wellbeck does neither he has 27 career goals in 134 games. Leigthon Baines is a more reliable goalscorer. It's the classic case of pace and power being overated against technique and footballing brain. Welbeck can run all day, is really quick and unlike say Walcott is also a strong runner so is difficult to knock off the ball. His technique though is average at best for a player at the level he plays, his decision making in the last third is even worse. Now technique and mental side of the game may improve over time, he's got potential but at the moment he looks like a headless chicken at times and half the time he can't get his feet sorted out. If you compare him to someone like Isco, who is two years younger and a top youngster coming through for one of the best international teams around, Welbeck looks miles behind. Fergie likes him because he knows he won't let him down, he tracks back and will work all day, whereas someone like Nani or Young will switch off. That's why he played against Real Madrid because of his defensive qualities as Utd were against a superior team. Not very useful for England though when you are trying to break down someone like Macedonia or the Ukraine. Good to see Shaw in there though, a player that actually already looks mature beyond his years.

It does, hence why a few clubs have dispensed with Fat Sam after a few years because it doesn't look like they've made much progress, a few like Bolton and Blackburn to their detriment, but they've done it because he does one season teams, gets a few experienced pros in, plays fairly direct football and concentrates mainly on ebing hard to beat. A good strategy to stay in the league, not so good to push up it, pretty much the same reason Stoke have declined over the last few years. He doesn't try to imporve youngsters or bring them into the team and his buys are usually for the then and now rather with an eye to the future. I suppose it depends if you want to accept your lot and finish mid table or gamble a bit more for progress. Hence probably why Turkish will laud him and West Ham because he's doing an effective job of keeping them in the league with the 'premiership experience' players some people on here claimed we should ahve signed. If i remember correctly quite a few on here were drooling over West Ham and how they had approached the league this year in contrast with us, those comparisons have got less and less over the season as our buys have improved whilst West Ham's have been pretty much the same, fairly average do a job players in an average do a job team. Even if we finsih below West Ham this year I reckon our team will naturally improve next year where as West Ham's will probably be pretty similar.
-
He used two of his three posts so he must have been really miffed by those comments. Seeing as CB Fry seems to love championing West Ham he might take up Turkish's mantle in this? There is a difference between taking individual players and a team, West Ham as a team are probably better than the sum of their parts and that's mainly due to Fat Sam, he plays 'percentage' football and they are well drilled, fit and work hard. That can go a long way to being an effective team. However taking man for man out of their line up I think we have the more talented team which is probably why we play a less direct more technical style of football. Defensively though West Ham are probably more solid than us. You make a good point as well about our start, with players adapting to the league and key players missing it's not really a true reflection of our team but sadly it's dragged us down the league and the reality is we are currently on par wit the Hammers. Hopefully we will win Satruday and finish above West Ham which will prove we are the better team.

Is extending the ground at the end of next season actually true?
tajjuk replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
Most people though their Saturdays are precious, if they aren't going to the football then they willl arrange something else so that's probably why you don't get much walk up. I doubt many people these days just decide to go and spend £35 - £40 out of the blue on a Saturday afternoon. For those with families it could be easily over £100. West Ham is already sold out and has been for days now. Mid level team that plays rubbish football so demand has grown over the season with good results as we weren't selling out say Norwich or Fulham say who aren't that different to West Ham in terms of appeal. -
Also has Lallana dived against them? they seem to think saints are divers particularly Lallana.
-
lol, most of them seem pretty fair to be honest, with most going for a point. They do seem a bit fixated on the 4-1 though, which isn't really an indication of where our team is at. I can't see all the 4-0 and 5-0s they are talking about, a few tongue in cheek ones but I can;t see many of us thinking we are going to smash them. They are still a nothing club though but it's mainly due to their slimy owners and fat sam and the borrible brand of football he plays, not sure how that is bitterness?. They also seem pretty fixated that they stopped Suarez so can stop us, well I'm pretty sure we've stopped Suarez twice now so we should be able to nulify the worst away scorers in the league.

http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/soccer/iain-macintosh-the-gamble-few-would-have-backed-227677.html? Another plaudit for Gaston, think many on here continue to be harsh on here or maybe over examine his performance becuase he;s our record signing.
-
Hmmmn maybe but Cork/Morgan are better. Hell no. Nope.
-
Think it's quite funny, the original poster makes a good point about West Ham's somewhat clouded transfer policy. As someone else mentioned they are like QPR light, they buy premiership experience players, regardless of price and age and players fat sam knows, they rarely give a chance to youngster these days either. It's all down to their manager really though, fat sam is one of those managers who keeps you up at the expense of progression, but that's the best it will get, although I suppose Bolton and Blackburn have suffered since his loss. Can't see them progressing under him, I would have thought they will struggle next year and the half empty olympic stadium will do them no favours. also WTF? lol @ £100 million in debt as well, where are these West Ham fans getting their info from?

I think people are getting carried away and fixated on attendance figures, I think any expansion will be gradual, probably a stand at a time so probably only 4k intially but the whole stadium and area will get investment which will not only make the club's home more unique but generate more income for the club. Surely the most ardent anti-expansion fan could get on board with 36k, upgraed concourses and facia, upgraded suroounding area and new coporate facitlity/club building? -
It's a good read but oddly the man who misses out from that piece Jay Rod I think could be our most likely canditate. Whilst I think Shaw is a nailed on England regular in the years to come, both he, clyne and Lallana have many rivals for the spots. Lambert's age plays against him but both Jay Rod and Cork have emerging reputations, both are young and both play in positions where England lack quality (up front) or the options are on the wane (defensive mid). I think Jay Rod will need to match Lambert's goal tally next season but if he does he'll become a squad regular. I think that article is spot on about Lallana as well, England don't have many players like Lallana, two footed, can play with his head up and has great close control as well as good composure, I don;t think there are many players who currently play for England like Cleverley, Wellbeck, Young etc. that could match him in this regard and his lack of pace should not be the decided factor. Whilst not maybe the same class yet he has a lot of Corzola about him and if he can add a few more goals to his game he's worth a go as he could make a difference against those stubborn sides England so regularly fail to beat. I reckon he could be football's version of Trescothick.

Le Fondre - No Goal & J Rod Should Have Been Sent Off
tajjuk replied to Gemmel's topic in The Saints
Silly comment, keeper didn't have the ball so it's not a studs up challenge, pretty much every pundit I have seen has said that it's a good goal and Federici bottled it. Had he gone down with his hands then he might have got the foul but he stands up and is in no danger. -
People seem to forget that many of our best performances this season like QPR, Newcastle, Villa, Everton, Liverpool etc. have all heavily involved Gaston. It seems that during the Poch love in were all having that everyone has forgotten the decidely average performances from Davis and Jay Rod earlier in the season as well. Players go in and out of form, Gaston isn't in form at the moment and has had a stop start season but he's still done a lot better than people give him credit for. A lot of his work is done in the build up, his link up play in the midfield is excellent and he's one fo the main reasons we transition the ball so well from cork/morgan into the more dangerous attacking areas. So no, people need to take off the "he cost £12 million" goggles. If he was playing as badly as some people here make out he'd be nowhere near the team and I trust MP a lot more than any fan.
